He did not count those as pages. Though it would be interesting to see just how many "bonus" pages there are; the exile intros, the hidden flashes, the Terezi/Dave GIFs, all linked sweet bro and hella jeff comics, etc. Even the Con Air/Midnight Crew/Miracles videos could count, as they are pretty important to the story. But he is trying to do the stats automatically, which I think is why he is ignoring these.

Karkat still crushes the competition though.

Now I want to see one that compares EVERYONE'S word counts, not just the trolls :V

Also kind of funny is that the 'most important character' had the least amounts of words, even less than the supposedly pointless and expendible ones.

Yes, I was surprised too, but I guess by the power of shenanigans, this may change very quick (at least that's my guess).

I'll have these counted in the next version, by looking for in-site links in the page text.

Karkat, Dirk, Dave, John and Vriska: They who would not shut up. ~20,000+ words each.

Rose, Jade and Terezi are the second tier with ~15k each. No one besides Jake even breaks 10k. That means everyone else has said at most half as much as the first five

Even the rest of them, with the exceptions of Kanaya, Jane, Roxy, and UU, are barely over half for the second tier.

Still, that means 9 characters each have over ten thousand words. Dayum.

Could you count the total amount of links, and then frequency of links per act? That would probably be pretty interesting to see, though it is a very low-key statistic.

And Dirk is already at the top tier of the dialogue rankings? Wow. I guess that is just because of the Betty Crocker exposition mania that happened for at least 1/3 of A6A3. But does that count Auto, or is it just Dirk/Head!Dirk? Because Auto is a separate character, even with a personality difference.

Also for pipefan413, that is just Nannasprite, unless you mean the serious business pages which are pages and can't be easily.... actually there are transcripts. Let me see if I can find them. And.... I cannot. But I have in the past seen a transcript. If anyone knows where it is that would probably be helpful.

Another thing that doesn't really matter at all but might be possible is that if certain page text is all-italicized, it's spoken dialogue by a character. Off the top of my head, Jade, Spades Slick, Hearts Boxcars, and Meenah all do it. an automated process wouldn't be able to discern that, of course, though.

Unfortunately yes, this includes every Character who starts with TT: in the Pesterlogs, I tried to split it via Font Colour, but that wouldn't help much either. I guess the only way is to scan every single conversation and I'm waaaaaaaay to lazy for this.

My bad, I'll fix that... Oh and don't forget about the trancripts, they would be very useful. ^^

I really like statistics if you can tell but I am clueless on how to do them

Scanning every conversation wouldn't be too hard. If nobody does it by around August (aka when I get to Act 6 in the community re-read) I will post which conversations Auto are in instead of Dirk. The only hard ones would be when both are in the same pesterlog.

Wow, the Striders (Dave, Davesprite, Dirk, AR) are sure talkative.

Dave and Davesprite can be blamed because of their raps, Dirk for "Betty Crocker exposition mania" and AR for...being a good splinter of Dirk.

I'd have expected Rose to have much more words actually.

Maybe that's just because I'm thinking of the walkthrough and screencaps which aren't counted though.

First item from the first post of the thread: Up through the end of Act 6 Part 2, there are 418,290 words, not counting the stuff only inside the pictures/flashes/etc. Even conservatively rounding down the first number for what the second doesn't cover, that means at least half the words in Homestuck are conversation.

If you count this, Rose has 2706 more words, while John has 878 more words.

cool. I'm currently working on a thing to figure out how many lines the charaters spoke ("EB: it was the fourteenth time in a row howie mandell peed in his juice" etc). words/lines gives you average line length, which would be interesting.

Re: Measuring Homestuck (Data! Charts! Graphs!)

Since I absolutely failed to count the sentences and for this reason being unable to do a words per sentence analysis, I decided to count all the lines in the conversations and divide them by the number of words, which I had already published. The quotient represents the average length of a conversation line. There are some interesting occurences. Most of the values are located between 7 and 9 WpL. Among the A1Kids Rose (8.70 has the highest value, which is quite fitting. John (7.337), Dave (7.061) and Jade (6.496) are at close quarters. Comparing Dave (7.061) and Davesprite (7.069) one can see, that the values are almost equal. Nannasprite (20.462) has the highest value by far, due to the conversations where she writes as pipefan413 and the ones where she explains the game machanisms to John. Calsprites (6.00) only words are 13 lines of HEEs/HAAs and HOOs. Observing the A2Trolls Vriska (11.276), Karkat (10.055), Nepeta (10.625) and Equius (9.156). The first two, due to their affection for soliloquy (a very nice word btw). The last two, due to their Quirks. The beginnings count as 2 words or 1 word (D -->/:33 <). In addition to this, Nepeta and her RPing result in higher need of words. Gamzee (3.59 has the lowest value by far, which relates to the oftenly simple responses and the lines which only consist of a honk or a smiley. This may be the reason for Terezi's (6.417) low value either. (The whole text may sound a bit hawing, but I' doing my best ^^)

MY SELF ESTEEM IS SO SMALL, ITS EXISTENCE IS A MATTER OF CONJECTURE AMONG THEORETICAL PHYSICISTS. I SMELL SO BAD, THE STENCH CANNOT BE EXPRESSED WITH EVEN THE MOST ELOQUENT, FLORID LANGUAGE. THE ODOR MY BODY MAKES HAS MADE POETS CRY. I HAVE WON SPECIAL AWARDS FOR DISCOVERING NEW PLACES TO TOUCH MYSELF EROTICALLY WHILE FARTING. I UNFAIRLY PULVERIZE THE COMPETITION IN ASSHOLE PAGEANTS, AND I HAVE RECEIVED A LIFETIME BAN FROM UGLY CONTESTS BY PRESIDENT SHITFACE HIMSELF. MY BLOOD IS NOT FIT TO FLOW THROUGH A SEWER, AND MY SIGN IS A PICTOGRAPHIC SYMBOL THAT LOOSELY TRANSLATES AS "PLEASE HIKE THESE PANTS UP TO THIS GUY'S ARMPITS, CHAIN HIM TO A FLOGGING JUT, AND MAKE A FUCKING EXAMPLE OUT OF THIS SORRY SACK OF SHIT." WHEN I LOOK IN A MIRROR, MY REFLECTION SLOWLY SHAKES HIS HEAD WHILE I WET MYSELF IN SHAME.

It looks like that; however it may not be significant. LTY, do you have the raw data so we can see if it is?

It's not surprising at all to see Roxy has one of the least words per line. Not at all. Though Meenah having even less IS a surprise to me.
