I am not a fan of mindless shipping (crazy, because that's exactly what my program encourages...), but I agree that romance is inseparable from the plot of Homestuck.

There's a difference between a ship that has some basis in canon and a complete crackship. I have no issue with the former, although I may not ship it. I have an issue with the latter, but only if taken seriously. If done for humorous effect, crackships can be quite entertaining.

Trolls and their shitty obsession with romance have broken more than they should.

Most of the romance revolving around the trolls is superfluous. There are few meaningful interpersonal troll relationships. In fact, pretty much the only relevant one is Karkat

Terezi, which is kind of critical for me not losing all respect I have ever acquired for Karkat.
