Name question and thoughts

I hate to make another thread about this buuuuuuut. So yeah is there a reason why we can't change our own names? Cause if I can be frank here it seems kinda dickish to tell us we can't change our names but the mods can whenever they feel like it. But they may or may not actually change it and they may or may not even make a thread for it. Not trying to insult anyone here just asking a question and explaining how things look from this angle

But... the mods don't (and I'm pretty sure can't) change their names whenever they feel like it? To my knowledge the last name change that occurred was NotASenator's. Which was not done by him. And happened over six months ago as a joke and still has not been reversed even though it makes no sense anymore?

So I don't know what point you're trying to make?

And also name changes are not a super easy thing to do and having them open to anybody at all times would be completely infeasible with the current software, and also somewhat counter to the type of community this tries to be?

Um I didn't say they could change their names whenever I meant they can change our names when they want to, or so it seems, but they don't despite more than a couple people asking for name changes.

Mods can't do it. Admins can. But admins don't want to be changing names every five minutes just because people can't think for a few seconds before registering. Moreover, there are good reasons to have permanent handles attached to your posts here, for the same reason we don't allow guests or anonymous posting. It encourages more thoughtful and responsible behaviour, if your history is not so easy to walk away from.

So the policy is "You can't change your names, and we won't except under very special circumstances." That said, every so often we might be open to doing a mass namechange for people, but it requires one of us to have a good solid block of time available and lately that just hasn't been possible.
