A: I would suggest Gimp; the UI isn't the most user friendly, but once you get things figured out, it's probably the most capable free editor out there. Paint.net is also popular and is more user friendly, but can't handle gifs.
Q: What are people talking about when they say they make images in Bondage?
A: It's a little in joke from a couple threads back; they're talking about Gimp.
Q: When I saved my image, the quality diminished in a way worthy of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff, what happened?
A: It's called Jpeg compression, and happens when you save an image as a .jpg file. Save your image as a .png or .gif instead.
Q: I'm working with gifs and the colors are acting strange, what's going on?
A: Gif images save colors in "Indexed" format, which prevents you from adding colors that aren't already in the picture when editing. Your editor should have a way to change the color settings to RGB (in Gimp go to Image->Mode->RGB); do this and your troubles will likely be gone. If you're using MS Paint, you'll have to copy and paste the picture into a new image.
Q: Why is my image not showing up?
A: Did you make sure to use the direct link? If the url you are using doesn't end in the file's extension (.png, .gif, or .jpg), you are probably using the url for the hosting site's page for the image and not the image itself. If you can't find where your hosting site has the direct link, you can always right click the image, select properties, and find the value for the "address."

This is where all the best manips in the thread are placed. To get in, a manip must obtain four nominations following these rules:
1) Anyone can nominate any manip that they themselves did not make (or, in the case of a collaboration of some sort, that they contributed to less than 1/4 of the manipulating).
2) Any valid image manipulation (see FAQ above) can be nominated whether it has been posted on this thread or not (so long as is not already in a previous best of thread), however re-posting something from a long time ago solely to gather more nominations is discouraged.
3) A person can only nominate ONE image a page (or every 25 posts). You can go back to nominate a past image after 25 posts from your previous nomination has pass.
4) You must provide a good reason with your nomination as to why you think this manip deserves to be here.
(Reasons such as "I love it" or "because of what he said" will not be accepted; note that you can have the same or similar reason to someone else, just don't blatantly say "what he said," copy and paste, or something similarly lazy). Please, be creative.
5) If you find an image manip on the internet (this includes other forum threads) you must give credit to the maker of the image manip. If it is something vague as "i found it on tumblr" or "i seen someone else post this, but it isn't their's either" that image CANNOT be nominated.
6) In the case of nominations getting out of control, I reserve the right to change these rules.
If a manip gets four nominations, there's no need to collect them all and quote them in one post, but it certainly doesn't hurt to do so, and significantly assists me in gathering these manipulations.
Remember, there are a lot of good manips, but not all of them belong in this post, only nominate those which you believe to be significantly high quality.
