    MSPA Community Re-Read 3 Day 37: Act 5 Act 2 (Day Ten)

Remember the Homestuck Re-Read in July 2011 and its sequel in September, following the announcement of the EoA? Well it's time for another one! It's almost been a full year, so a good community re-read will do everyone some good.

It'll start June 12, and every day you can post here or on the IRC discussing the current day's reading. It is really fun to re-read Homestuck with a bunch of other people at the exact same time; trust me. You'll have a huge blast!

Like both times, the Re-Read will be formally hosted by the MSPA Clubhouse IRC, located at http://tinyurl.com/MSPAIRC or #MSPA on the server irc.stardock.com (if you do not know what that stuff means there is an FAQ I will copypaste, don't worry) The IRC actually started because of the first Re-read, and it brought together an entire sub-community of Homestuck fans that is still thriving today.

    What you need to know:

    1. The Re-Read will start June 12 (Hivebent Day)

We will start at 12:00 AM EST sharp! But there is a "Reading Time" and "Discussion Time" schedule that you may want to follow (it was generally only slightly followed in the past re-reads, so don't worry about keeping on time and stuff.)

    2. The HOMESTUCK Re-Read will not start until June 23

If you are here solely for Homestuck, then you are out of luck for the first couple of weeks as we Re-Read (and for many, read in the first place) Hussie's earlier works, and the first three MSPAs. The Homestuck re-read itself starts June 23rd. But don't miss out on the old stuff; it's just as good!

    3. How to get on the IRC

Pbhead, who originally set up the MSPA IRC (at the time I will admit I did not know how to create IRC channels. I did not realize how simple it was >_>), made this to help IRC newbies out:

    Or just go to http://tinyurl.com/MSPAIRC

    4. The Schedule:
We will be taking a break every Wednesday (except for the very first one because it's like the second day) so that people can catch up if they fall behind, because hey, real life matters a bit more than re-reading a comic.

The reason that it is so long is because this is a community re-read, and people's reading paces are not the same. Also, it allows us to only have to read about 100-200 pages per day so that we can adequately discuss them without falling behind. The non-Homestuck days are also more relaxed because I'm assuming less people will want to read them.

Anyway, here is the SCHEDULE under this spoiler. Underneath many days are spoilers too. Click them for goodies; resources that will assist you on your journey in Hussieville. Of course you don't HAVE to follow this schedule at all, but it is more fun when you do!

Also, credit to Niklink for the Problem Sleuth schedule and for some of the Homestuck schedule.

NOTE: Please do not bump/necropost in ANY of the threads that I have provided in this schedule! If you want it to be moved to the Forafiles, PM a mod; don't ever bump stuff for no reason.

An alternate schedule for if you want to watch the Let's Read videos, made by Whitehelm:

The below are schedules for your every day use.

    Reading Time:
Midnight Crew Readers: Reading Time for those who wish to start at Midnight EST each night.
Aussie Stampede: I was never sure during the Re-Read or am I now. 6 AM EST seems to be the right time for Australians to be on.
Everyone Else: ~4:13 PM EST each day is the "official" reading time for everyone in the US timezones.

    Discussion time:
~9 PM EST. Get on the IRC and discuss some Homestuck! (specifically that particular day's reading) Other times we will be doing many other shenanigans, and it may sometimes roll-over into this discussion time (read: almost always)

    5. Cool Challenge: Abstain from serially reading during the Re-Read!

This is highly advised just because it's fun and easier to re-read when you are not busy speculating about the next serial update! Some people don't do this, and it's fine, but I prefer it a ton. The best part is at the end of the re-read, on the very last day, you get to read archivally for X number of updates. I personally will start this whenever this "choose your character" sequence in the current updates is over, but obviously considering how insanely long this re-read is, you might not want to start until Homestuck.

    6. Another Cool Challenge: Time yourself!
This one is simple. Time how long it takes to read each day of Homestuck (not counting when you are distracted on another tab or something). MSPA IRC member Ktalaki is interested in finding the average reading time that it takes for Homestuck re-readers.

    -------
    Cool thing: http://readmspa.org/three-read/downloads/
Here is what the creator has to say about it:

I will continually update this page with cool things like links that pertain to certain days of the re-read, and my amazing sig pics :P
If you have any cool links or anything that I could add, tell me so that I can!

    So in summary:
    -Re-Read Homestuck
    -Have Fun
    -The Baby Is You
    -Starts June 12
-Good Luck in your Homestuck non-update readings :P

Once again the MSPA ♣House is looking forward to the influx of forumites

Be sure to join the ♣House for Movietime streams on Fridays and Saturdays (at 11pm EST) as well; we are systematically streaming every movie referenced or relevant to Homestuck.
We will re-stream Con Air and other critical films by popular request during the reread as well.

    ♣House Easy Irc Link: http://mibbit.com/?channel=%23MSPA&s...c.stardock.com
    ♣House Tumblr: http://www.tumblr.com/blog/mspaclubhouse
    ♣House Movietime http://www.livestream.com/mspaclubhousemovietime

Although I am curious if we may have to set up another channel to split off regulars and offtopic discussion from the re-read. We will see.

    Looking forward to it!

This sounds like a thing I will get into. I'm probably gonna do the first parts of PS and HS from the books.

Hmm, after some thinking I think I'm not going to do this reread this time around.

I'll be really busy with exams, I'm working on a secret project for which I've been rereading Homestuck for some time, and I've also already been watching those Let's Read Homestuck videos.

Sorry guys. I hope you have fun though!

Well I was waiting for a Vriska revival to start my comprehensive re-read, but I'm sure this will work all the same.

Ten More days then. Looking forward to the third re-read.

Re: MSPA Community Re-Read The Third (Starts June 12 pack your bags kids)

I wish I'd done this last year, during the hiatus before Cascade. Instead I kinda rushed through it before even realising this more sensible method was happening. So yeah, I might try this out this time, it's been a while since I did a proper re-read, probably because the Let's Read team have been doing the job for me. Also will be a good chance to check out some of the other stuff I missed outside, which seems to be just a few of the ancient forum topics. I'm OK with that.

So where's Ryanquest fit in all this, the best MSPA of them all? Or will that be later on during the actual HS reading?

It takes like 2 minutes to get through the whole thing. You could fit it into every day.

And it should be. Everyday should feature Ryanquest. For it is filled with such nuance that it never reads the same way twice. A new interpretation awaits on each subsequent viewing. And it is filled with such emotion and impact, you'll continually be moved to tears every time (or at least most of the time, better keep a record of scientific data to test this theory).

In seriousness I guess it'll probably just be thrown in around the time when we're up to that date in terms of HS (ie 1st of October 2010). Or maybe not????????????

I have a terrible confession to make.

I haven't actually read all of Problem Sleuth.

This sounds like the perfect opportunity to right this wrong.

It'll be on there, don't worry. It's just that I was up making this list at 7 AM this morning and I realized, "why the hell am I still up" and promptly passed out in my bed. I will finish it asap!

That's why I'm doing this. I've been needing to do this for a while, and now I have the perfect opportunity. And it's right around when school ends for me. Let's do this thing!

I would like to do this, though it will depend on how busy I am in July, which I won't know until I start working on summer research stuff later this month. (I'd only want to do the Homestuck parts because I don't really like the other adventures enough to re-read them.)

Re: MSPA Community Re-Read The Third (Starts June 12 pack your bags kids)

I didn't jump in the first re-read due to not having joined the community yet, and I quit the second one due to school work getting in the way, but I have the whole summer free, so I am excited, especially since this is the first time I'll be reading through Hussie's pre-MSPA work.

If anyone wants to read MSPA with the fonts it was meant to have for this read through, please read my how-to.

If anyone want to buy a copy of Whistles, they are about $10 on Amazon right now.

Love your avatar, btw. But there are only a couple copies left! I may end up ordering one and then scanning it... if that's okay with Hussie and the mods? I am still unsure if he even gets money from it. If anyone else can though that'd be swell because well my scanner is not broken but I don't know how I'll be able to use it due to computer shenanigans.

I already ordered one a few hours ago, with them saying there was only one left, and I checked about an hour after my purchase and now it's showing they have 15, so either they just restocked or there must me some error. Even so, the other sellers on the site still have a decent amount of copies, and I bet that only a few people would really want to buy it anyway, so there will probably be enough.

Even if Hussie himself isn't making money off it anymore, the publisher probably is if they are restocking Amazon with new copies, so I would probably say that it wouldn't be allowed.

Also, while I'm here, I will say that we could cram more pages of Problem Sleuth into each day, since it doesn't have a lot of the things that can make Homestuck such a long read, such as the pesterlogs and the flash pages, and the fact that PS is just a faster read altogether (PS took me 2-3 days, while HS was a month and a half).

Don't worry~ When I joined the re-read in September last year, I hadn't read PS at all!

I look forward to Andrew's Star Trek edits as I have not seen them, as well as his blog cause damn, I really loved his Olive Garden story.

Yeah, it's really cheap so I'm going to order one on Wednesday.

That's the lamest part; I didn't think they were even printing it anymore, but I guess they are so :/ I'll ask a mod and if it's not allowed then I will remove Whistles entirely as a day because otherwise the entire day is just a 10 page preview and idr-page sequel. (I may end up combining it with the previous day anyway though)

I will probably end up compressing the days from how many was it, six I guess, to about 3, but I liked how Homestuck Day Zero was on a tuesday so I'll probably compress it all the way to the point where it's on the previous Tuesday :P

Well, this looks interesting, and I'll try doing this thing. I've been wanting to reread most everything, so this may provide the motivation I need.
[spoiler]PS: Day 17 and the Sunday after are misdated: They should be 30/6 and 1/7, not 1/7 and 29/6.

oh I messed up all of the dates in the beginning, so I may have missed some when I went back and fixed them. Thank you; I'll fix it when I revise the schedule to be a lot shorter (except for the homestuck one. that is unchanged.)

This sounds pretty fun. Can't really join a reread of anything but Homestuck though, since it's the only MSPA that I've read. Not a bad chance to start the other ones, though!
I've got nothing clever to say here... yet.
