That's a good thing. Welcome aboard, and also
btw, I finished Act 1 of Homestuck. My official reading time was 1:17:28,5 according to my stopwatch, but it would have been a lot faster had I not been reading the book version. Those annotations are very funny and insightful at the same time!
I re-read Act 1 while I had coffee and breakfast this morning. It was better than I remembered it being -- I never liked the sylladex mishaps all that much, but it's fun to see the game mechanics get revealed and I like Rose and John's interactions.
Even if you exclude the pesterlogs that were copied from Hussie's actual chatlogs, the dialogue in Act 1 feels very different from the dialogue in more recent Homestuck, not necessarily in a bad way. I guess it sounds more natural? Probably because there's nothing to call back to yet. (By contrast, the Act 6 pesterlogs are chock-full of callbacks.)
tumblr | goodreads | my big fat act 6 rant
"It should be understood that competition in chess problems is not really between White and Black but between the composer and the hypothetical solver (just as in a first-rate work of fiction the real clash is not between the characters but between the author and the world), so that a great part of a problem's value is due to the number of 'tries' -- delusive opening moves, false scents, specious lines of play, astutely and lovingly prepared to lead the would-be solver astray." -Vladimir Nabokov (Speak, Memory)
Re-reading act 1 inspired me to do this:

My reasons are far more practical!
When you try to convince people to read Homestuck, don't they usually ask you how long it is? Wouldn't you like to be able to give them a specific time length instead of just saying "well it has over five thousand pages but half of them don't have any text"?
Thus I'll be keeping track of all the times everyone gives for how long each day takes them, so by the end we'll be able to say "Yes, Homestuck is around 40 hours long. Wow!"
On another note, I haven't been following the reread since 6/13 whoops I should probably start Act 1 now
Well I just finished reading the first act but I'm obviously a wee bit early.

Okay, here I am with my outlier time of 26' 43.6".
Yes, I read fast, deal with it.
Started re-reading at one.
Its nine now. I'm at act five.
I think I'm rushing through this a little.
Rushing does not help the average don't do it
bomp
I finished act 2 day one in 1:15:13. The books are really slowing me down but the commentary is great.

I'm not rushing, I am a naturally fast reader.
21' 24.6"
Two days, I'm finished with the entire thing.
I think I am a little ahead mang.
Read it again every few days until August 3rd then![]()
Just got to the End of Act 4.
Descend will never not be something I'm willing to watch dozens of times over.
DANI IS THE COOLEST AND SO IS CANDY CORN![]()
I am not taking part in the challenge, since I just got up to the beginning of Act 5 today, and I read the updates that happened a couple days ago.
I didn't expect this of myself, but I am surprisingly finding myself itching to just skip to Act 5 Act 2, but I choose to dismiss silly thoughts like that.
An early reminder to those not on the IRC that the Con Air showings are on this Saturday. Check back again later for more specific times.
I, on the other hand, would love watching descend a dozen times over
FUN TEXT
Wow, today's section is very long, lots to read even before you add the walkaround and music recordings!
So I'd been trying to read one day ahead to make sure I find any bugs in my full-screen reading mode (links in signature) before anyone sticking to the schedule. Of course the one day I fail is the one I find has all the bugs. Sorry to anyone already affected. I think I've now mostly fixed them all; if do you still run into issues then do a full reload of the page to pull down the bugfixed Javascript.
There's one minor issue still present: the first time you visit Doc Scratch, only the first paragraph of his text is white. Sorry about that - it would be fiddly to fix with Javascript so I've left it alone.

Have an offline friend to recruit? A complete archive of Homestuck (and the rest of MSPA.) | There is a (MATH) % chance I've calculated MSPA stats. | oh my god so many words - transcripts of everything. | All of the words, etc. - extended search.
For future rereads A6A3 needs to have 3 days, not 2. Those were pretty much the longest 2 reread segments.
Anyway, I'm done. Went ahead and did the final day early because I didn't feel like taking a break at the very end.
Well back when I made the schedule, A6A3 was only about as long as A6A2. There were a lot of updates during this re-read!!
