Remember the Homestuck Re-Read in July 2011 and its sequel in September, following the announcement of the EoA? Well it's time for another one! It's almost been a full year, so a good community re-read will do everyone some good.
It'll start June 12, and every day you can post here or on the IRC discussing the current day's reading. It is really fun to re-read Homestuck with a bunch of other people at the exact same time; trust me. You'll have a huge blast!
Like both times, the Re-Read will be formally hosted by the MSPA Clubhouse IRC, located at http://tinyurl.com/MSPAIRC or #MSPA on the server irc.stardock.com (if you do not know what that stuff means there is an FAQ I will copypaste, don't worry) The IRC actually started because of the first Re-read, and it brought together an entire sub-community of Homestuck fans that is still thriving today.
What you need to know:
1. The Re-Read will start June 12 (Hivebent Day)
We will start at 12:00 AM EST sharp! But there is a "Reading Time" and "Discussion Time" schedule that you may want to follow (it was generally only slightly followed in the past re-reads, so don't worry about keeping on time and stuff.)
2. The HOMESTUCK Re-Read will not start until June 23
If you are here solely for Homestuck, then you are out of luck for the first couple of weeks as we Re-Read (and for many, read in the first place) Hussie's earlier works, and the first three MSPAs. The Homestuck re-read itself starts June 23rd. But don't miss out on the old stuff; it's just as good!
3. How to get on the IRC
Pbhead, who originally set up the MSPA IRC (at the time I will admit I did not know how to create IRC channels. I did not realize how simple it was >_>), made this to help IRC newbies out:
Or just go to http://tinyurl.com/MSPAIRC
4. The Schedule:
We will be taking a break every Wednesday (except for the very first one because it's like the second day) so that people can catch up if they fall behind, because hey, real life matters a bit more than re-reading a comic.
The reason that it is so long is because this is a community re-read, and people's reading paces are not the same. Also, it allows us to only have to read about 100-200 pages per day so that we can adequately discuss them without falling behind. The non-Homestuck days are also more relaxed because I'm assuming less people will want to read them.
Anyway, here is the SCHEDULE under this spoiler. Underneath many days are spoilers too. Click them for goodies; resources that will assist you on your journey in Hussieville. Of course you don't HAVE to follow this schedule at all, but it is more fun when you do!
Also, credit to Niklink for the Problem Sleuth schedule and for some of the Homestuck schedule.
NOTE: Please do not bump/necropost in ANY of the threads that I have provided in this schedule! If you want it to be moved to the Forafiles, PM a mod; don't ever bump stuff for no reason.
An alternate schedule for if you want to watch the Let's Read videos, made by Whitehelm:
The below are schedules for your every day use.
Reading Time:
Midnight Crew Readers: Reading Time for those who wish to start at Midnight EST each night.
Aussie Stampede: I was never sure during the Re-Read or am I now. 6 AM EST seems to be the right time for Australians to be on.
Everyone Else: ~4:13 PM EST each day is the "official" reading time for everyone in the US timezones.
Discussion time:
~9 PM EST. Get on the IRC and discuss some Homestuck! (specifically that particular day's reading) Other times we will be doing many other shenanigans, and it may sometimes roll-over into this discussion time (read: almost always)
5. Cool Challenge: Abstain from serially reading during the Re-Read!
This is highly advised just because it's fun and easier to re-read when you are not busy speculating about the next serial update! Some people don't do this, and it's fine, but I prefer it a ton. The best part is at the end of the re-read, on the very last day, you get to read archivally for X number of updates. I personally will start this whenever this "choose your character" sequence in the current updates is over, but obviously considering how insanely long this re-read is, you might not want to start until Homestuck.
6. Another Cool Challenge: Time yourself!
This one is simple. Time how long it takes to read each day of Homestuck (not counting when you are distracted on another tab or something). MSPA IRC member Ktalaki is interested in finding the average reading time that it takes for Homestuck re-readers.
