It's all good, I understand. I do love the whip as a weapon, but it can leave you vunerable was my only concern. But I'm cool with this. He should make a few lashes at Kiffon, just to unnerve him, make him hesitant to try somthing. Gives you a couple more minutes to think
Darde quickly lashes out towards Kiffons position, full well knowing it's out of his range. Kiffons steps back a little. He seems to be thinking through how to deal with the whip as well and he doesn't want to make the first move, so there's plenty of time for Darde to come up with a plan

Take the offensive, lashing out with the whip, and have the tomahawk ready as if you're going to throw. Keep him on the retreat, don't let him catch his breath, or give him a chance to Stand his ground. Use your reach to your advantage, but also be ready for when he charges forward. Sidestep when he does, and lash his side, possible his arm with the whip. His arms are the weak spots in the duel, because that axe will weigh a ton. The more he moves around, and swings it, the more tired he'll be. Injuring his arms makes that happen even faster

    >Darde, you want to make him give up. Make him tired. Make him sting. Make him want to stop fighting you.

    >Do NOT let him hit you, but tempt him to, then dodging out of the way as he swings. This would mean he hits where you were, tiring him out, but letting you whip him as he does so.

Darde feels invigorated for some reason. He starts cheerfully dancing around Kiffon while whipping out after him. This confuses Kiffon to no end, he's trying his best to avoid to lashes, but a few hit him anyhow, it seems to shake him pretty badly even through the thick leather he's wearing.

Then, after a few swings, Darde throws the whip out a little slowly, before he can move the whip back for another swing, Kiffon charges and swings out for Darde's hands. Darde manages to dodge in time and quickly gets out of Kiffons reach again.

Now that he's overextended, and off balance, slam the tomahawk or your fist into his side, and knock the wind outta him. This gives you a couple more precious seconds to continue to lash him up from different directions, and he won't be able to focused enough to block em

Go for the arms first, makes it harder for him to keep his axe up. Then he can't use his axe effectively and you win

Darde only retreats for a moment before he starts swinging the whip again. He holds out the tomahawk as if to throw it and targets Kiffons arms. Kiffon is on the retreat for a little while, but the swings are too fast for him to turn around, so he can't quite get out of Darde's range. As he realises this, he changes tactics, rushing Darde instead and trying to ignore the slashes of the whip. Darde dodges out of his way, but the situation is a little dangerous.

Kiffon moves moves with increased ferocity for a while, sending Darde on the defensive, Darde has a hard time keeping the man at bay as he completely ignores every whip slash. A well placed whip turns the situation around, it strikes Kiffon directly on his throat, making a long red stripe appear. Kiffon instinctively yanks himself away, and puts a hand to his neck. Before he can realise the mistake, Darde makes his move. He sends the whip flying wrapping it around the handle of the axe and yanks with as much force as he can muster, causing Kiffon to loose his grip on the axe. Darde symbolicaly jumps into Kiffons range and puts an axe to Kiffons neck. "Dead" he declares as the small crowd cheers.

Darde picks up the large axe and unwraps the whip, that's the danger of this move, it's very likely to stick itself to the weapon you're trying to disarm.
(I know that's not quite what you were asking for, but I had to show it off :P)

"A fine victory." the examiner declares "Your next challenge is going up against a wielder with just your weapons. I think I'll set you up against Cris again for this next one. She's quite the accomplished metal wielder."

Darde sinks a lump, metal wielders are a pain to fight against hand-to-hand. Cris picks up a longsword (which is not some crazy ass two-hander or something by the way, it's more like a hand and half kind of sword) and assumes her stance. "It wont be enough to disarm your opponent this time, you'll have to neutralize her wielding to win. You may pick up another weapon if you wish"

Edit: bluh, you're sending in commands while I'm posting. Anyways, haz some more challenges.

Stick with the whip, but switch out the tomahawk for a tonfa, wooden, but sturdy enough the sword won't cut through it. Also remove the metal razors on end of whip, and use either wooden tips, or just the end of the rope. Use the whip to lash at her, as you did with Kiffon, and use the sturdy and manuverable tonfa to block her attacks. Wait for her to overextend, or open her defenses, and then jam the end of the tonfa into her side. Try to wrap the whip around her longsword so she can't swing it, and act like you mean to wrestle her for it, but then go in with the tonfa to the side.

    >Is there a small wooden shield? Strap that to your left forearm (Or right if you're a lefty), and use the Whip in the right hand. Have a legit hatchet in your left hand as well. Left arm to block her swings, whip to disrupt wielding. (Which I assume means break concentration.)

Yeah... I dont really think I'll let tonfas be a thing at all, they're cool and all, but I just don't see them fitting in well with the rest of the setting. You can haz like... I don't know... actually I have no idea, I guess you could use a wooden training sword or something.

Also, the whip doesn't actually have a metal end, since it's one made for training, so that's not a problem.

Awww, lame. okay, um... With with long dagger then, same concept. Hold it, so that when your thumb is facing up, the dagger points to the ground, and bend your wrist so it covers your arm. Use a wooden dagger though, so she cant use it against you, and have the flat of the blade against your arm, so it doesn't cut you when she hits it. Then just do the same thing as I said with tonfa

I'm actually going to go back to a big ol' wooden tower shield on the off for this fight. It's naturally lighter for you because of the passive wood wielding grasp it stays under, and it defends against the faster opponent. As for tactics, I'd say grapple her sword arm with the whip, pull her to you, and shield bash her on the approach. Drop your whip, and tomahawk striker her in the armpit while she's staggered. If you need to, get back to your whip and repeat the process until you've unarmed her. From there, play keep away with her sword, and slash at her with the whip until she submits. Keep your shield pointed at her sword at all times in case she tries to metal wield it at you from the ground.

Re: Realm Quest - A Fantasy Text Adventure

I'm actually too tired to do a legit update right now.

To summarize, you all agree on bringing the whip, but what do you take in your left hand? You cant carry both a shield and another weapon, the kit'aegan shields are simply not made to support that. So you can either bring a tower shield, a round shield, a hatchet, a tomahawk or that wooden dagger. I think that's what you mentioned.

And yeah... Sort that out. I'll be back tommorows wit mo updates

...Yeah, it isn't like we're ever going to pick up a shield again anyways. Dagger in the off hand it is. But do keep that holstered tomahawk.

Re: Realm Quest - A Fantasy Text Adventure

Using the dagger to parry her is not likely to be a good idea. Being a metal wielder, she can swing that sword with extra power, and that can be particularly dangerous if you parry or block. Best to dodge, then. She'll be quicker than Kiffon, though. Best to bring a tomahawk or two, then, and be ready to throw one of them at her in a critical moment, that might keep her at bay better than the whip.
I really should see about getting a new signature.

  22. #322

Re: Realm Quest - A Fantasy Text Adventure

Well, of course don't block a swing with that kinda power, but if you see one you can block, do it, and that opens her up for the whip

Sticks and stones may break her bones,
But whips and chains excite her.
So tie her up, and drag her down,
And show her that you like her.

Re: Realm Quest - A Fantasy Text Adventure

Darde hangs one tomahawk by his belt and grabs a wooden training dagger, it might end up in two if he parries with it, but at least Cris won't be able to wield it. He takes a strong grip on the whip and stands opposite Cris. 10 meters away to be exact, which is just out of the range of the whip, but just within range of Cris' wielding. Cris stands open, arms down her side, she's waiting for Darde to begin the match.

Darde starts with a few swings of the whip, which Cris dodges out of with ease, still with her arms down her sides. Suddenly Darde feels a sharp pain on his cheek. He instinctively puts a hand to it. Blood is falling down his cheek like tears. Tracing further up on his chin he finds a thin metal spike, no larger than a toothpick, but dug quite far into his skin. Darde can only assume that it came from Cris. Her form was perfect though. Most wielders use their hands as a guide to most of what they do and show at least a little bit of strain when wielding, Cris didn't even move a muscle. Darde will have to think fast here, if Cris can throw one of those things she could probably just as well hit him with 5 or ten at the same time. The toothpicks could quickly drain him of so much blood that he'd get sluggish and weak if he's hit by enough of them. He yanks the current toothpick out of his cheek, it's dug itself in a good 5 milimeters. But how do you dodge something that you can't see, hear or feel?

Edit: by the way, gonna set this on hiatus until the next sunday. Not gonna be able to even get near a computer until then. So peace out
