The war against the Nazis took longer than was ever expected. Following Adolf’s unconfirmed assassination in 1942, a bloody war of attrition followed as the Army assumed control of the Axis war effort and lead a massive resurgence that took the Allies by surprise. While their opponents relied on brute strength or economic prowess, the Germans focused on quality – investing deeply into research and development of "wunderwaffe" (wonder weapons) in the hope of overcoming their growing failure to hold back the Allies. Their technological advantage grew over time; with one of their last projects – the creation of a Personal Computational device, the jewel in its crown.

However; it was not be enough; without Hitler, the government lacked a clear inspirational leader, nor a common ideological platform. These problems lay dormant while the war remained far from the Reich’s own soil, but grew as its enemies gradually gained the upper hand and pushed towards Berlin.

In 1947, Germany collapsed for good; the leadership rows that had been barely contained since the Führer’s death finally emerged as the Allies encroached on its borders. After a violent civil war, the once-proud nation was divided amongst the Allies and soon, the world itself would split down the middle as the Iron Curtain was pulled across Europe.

It is now 1953.

Six years since the end of the Second World War, the Cold War has emerged for good, as Europe rebuilds. Hostilities still rage in Korea, though with a stalemate emerging, it is likely a matter of months before the conflict is resolved. Technological process within the Eastern and Western Blocs is stratospheric, as developments by the Nazi regime (ethical or not) and other wartime advances were extended by Post-war research programs funded as a means of peaceful rivalry between the Superpowers. Diesel reigns supreme, as the steam age slowly comes to a close and newfangled electronics grows ever more commonplace.

The discovery of 'Project Sburb' by operatives on both sides of the Iron Curtain spurred efforts by both Superpowers to claim the ‘new worlds’ they believed to be accessible through the ‘game’. Both sides are now scrambling to determine its nature and purpose, recruiting a number of youths to assist in their 'research' - and act as their agents of influence within the 'game'.

This is the world our Heroes live in. Selected either by fate or by force, you are the first and last hope of humanity. Will you secure the economic liberties of the world and secure the dominance of Capitalism, or will you defend Communism and spread the Proletarian Revolution throughout the Medium? The choice is yours.

Troll Backstory:

Beforus was a peaceful planet. WAS. Despite the calm brought by generally-benevolent seadweller matriarchy, this was not to last. As the announcement of the discovery of Sgrub reverberated around the planet, things began to change. First, small hives of lowbloods seemed to disappear. Then, as more information about the discovery was released, the situation deteriorated more rapidly. One by one, the revelation of a program that if triggered (or rather, WHEN) would destroy almost the entire species, led to the gradual fractioning of an unprepared Troll Society before the game had even begun. Troll against troll, master against slave. The concurrent 'disappearance' of the Empress made things worse, as the burgeoning disagreements amongst the trolls ended in a violently destructive civil war. What remains are pockets of urban civilisation, surrounded by the barren battlefields of the war; and a few remote areas yet untouched by the conflict.

One sweep since these horrific events...

Two streams of thought have emerged amongst the survivors - both seeking to control SGRUB for themselves. One desires a society based on the traditions laid down throughout troll history, the other seeks a new (and somewhat alien) concept of individual liberty and freedom from government. Adherents of these two incompatible doctrines struggled amongst the ruins of Beforus to seize Sgrub for themselves and their followers, seeking to gain a better future for their doomed species. It is inevitable that these two factions will clash against one another, but it remains to be seen what the outcome will be.

This is the world our Heroes live in. The last of your kind, with you lies the destiny of the Trolls. Will you restore the order and peace enforced by the haemospectrum under an Imperial regime, or will you embrace the tenets of Anarchy and fight for a fairer future where trolls are truly free? The choice is yours.

Dieseldamned is an intrigue-heavy, alt-history Sburb/Sgrub RP, set in a dieselpunk version of the 1950s. The word 'nerd' is only two years old and the world is by and large, a very different place than it is today. While this will shape the story and some in-game activities, it is still a Sburb RP and it will function like one, but with a little bit of 'flavour'.
The Trolls exist in a slightly different environment, being far more technologically-advanced than human society, but sharing a similar culture of internal hostility.

Important notes: (READ IT, KIDDIES; THIS STUFF'S IMPORTANT)

HOUSEKEEPING
- All players should be prepared to be online regularly and stay up-to-date. This is important, as records of activity WILL be taken and inactive players WILL be replaced if necessary.
- SKYPE is currently the main form of OOC discussion. If you have been accepted, you should contact a member of the RP and add them to your contacts, so they can invite you to the discussion.
- Applications will be reviewed by all current RP members and selection of players will be be done 'Democratically'.
- Characters must be believable and feasible. That means, no Godmodding, no Mary Sues and no 'Punks' or 'Weeabos'. This is the 1950s; please make sure that your character makes sense within that time period.
- Applications should be sent to the GM as a profile. That doesn't mean every single detail is needed, just as many as you think is necessary to adequately describe your character. If there is competition for a slot, the final result will be based on the quality of your profile, it it's work putting a little effort into your apps.

THE CAPITALISTS

The Capitalists are humans who hail from the countries that championed "Democracy" in the Cold War - the NATO Powers, and their allies. This period is in the middle of the RED SCARE, when fear of Communism and Nuclear War was close to reaching its peak. If you weren't seen as normal or patriotic enough, then you were a 'pinko' and a potential 'commie'. If you stray too far from societal norms or capitalist ideology, you WILL be ostracised from society and if you push it too far, you will be placed under surveillance by the Secret Services and may be imprisoned or detained with or without trial.

Upon entry to the Medium, these restraints will no longer limit your behaviour, and will force you to interact with the Communists. How you react to the challenging of your faction's doctrine is up to you.

THE COMMUNISTS

The Communists come from the other side of the Iron Curtain and primarily consist of the Warsaw Pact Countries, plus China and North Korea. With the emergence of the internet the capacity of these Totalitarian states to control and/or influence their people via media control has diminished, but their power remains strong. The Communists are fearful of invasion and many are strongly patriotic, still riding high from their successes in WW2. If you stray too far from 'socialist' ideals or societal norms, you WILL be ostracised, put under surveillance by the secret police and if you push it too far, you may even be shot.

Upon entry to the Medium, the pressures of totalitarianism will evaporate, forcing you to interact with the Capitalists. How you react to the lack of state controls and your 'freedom' within the Medium is up to you.

TROLLS

Both factions of trolls have emerged from the bloodiest epoch thus far in troll history. All of them are likely to have been affected by this event, though not all may be honest or open about this. They are the survivors of a massive civil war that probably killed may of those they knew and loved. Those in the RP represent two powerful factions; both of which seek to trigger the Reckoning. It is unknown what role these factions had in the violence itself; perhaps there was more to the civil war than meets the eye? Such questions may arise as the teams progress and seek to resolve the questions posed by the game itself.

THE IMPERIALISTS

The Imperialists seek to resurrect the tenets of Beforus' society which they argue have been 'attacked; during the civil war. While both see the Haemospectrum as central to this 'ideal future', they disagree over whether or not to resurrect the position of Empress itself. Many of its followers are remnants of the 'Old Order', but there are also a number of younger trolls, which have their own ideas and solutions to the crisis. Some imperials may wish for a fair, well-governed society kept peaceful by the rule of Law, while others may seek a brutal Dictatorship where the rulers' commands are the only Law.

The ANARCHISTS

The Anarchists wish to make the new world created by SGRUB a 'freer', more 'equal' one. They are united primarily by their rejection of the Haemospectrum, but are otherwise rather disparate in their view of what it should be substituted with. Some seek a communal existence, based on small self-governing collectives, or a truly lawless society based on individuals owning only what they can defend. The question is; how much government is too much and how to prevent the Haemocracy returning to power by virtue of a typical seadweller's incredible natural life spans?

This is the updated OP for Dieselstuck, since Krug was no longer able to be the GM, due to RL issues. Once/if he confirms, Awesome Incarnate is acting co-GM as well.

As you can see, we still need a number of people, especially Communists and Imperialists. We currently have three pending applications for the Male Communist spot, but we will continue to accept profiles until this weekend, when we'll be voting on who gets the two available slots. If you don't know what Dieselpunk is, check this out. If you have ever played Bioshock or Fallout (minus the advanced nuclear tech), that might give you an idea of the technological setting.

Good question. There's a lot of ooc discussion pre-game that goes on on Skype which you would miss out on, so I would recommend getting it. It's free and somewhat useful, I've used it for a few years to chat to friends overseas and such.

An Imperialist profile would ideally be in the same literary style as a typical CHARACTER INTRODUCTION, including the use of SELECTIVE CAPITALIZATION. Apart from the information on the the Spreadsheet, you may want to include a little about your troll's background pre-entry (make sure you read the OP for a little bit of info on the troll situation).

BTW folks; I'm currently busy IRL, so there's going to be a bit of a delay in getting feedback to everyone who has sent profiles in thus far. This should all be sorted by this time next week.

In the meantime, confirmed players - I have added extra pages on the Spreadsheet for use storing player profiles for easy reference. If you can post copies of all your profiles there (including updates if they could use some 'tweaking' in line with the new backstory), it will make me a happy chappy.

You can switch between 'pages' by clinking on one of the little tab things at the bottom of the fist page of the spreadsheet. When you want to look up a character profile or add stuff in, click on the tab for the relevant faction (eg; 'Communists') to make it visible.

The spreadsheet has a problem with pasted text sometimes, so you may need to edit it to remove line breaks in the middle of paragraphs. Also, to save space please keep them below 320 words. 250-300 would be ideal, but you don't have to edit it down if it's between 300-320.

I don't have a copy of everyone's profiles btw, so unless Krug linked it in the old OP I haven't seen it. If that is you, please make sure you add it ASAP. If you've edited things out for the word limit, please send a longer version to my inbox, or upload it elsewhere (eg; googledocs) and send me a link. I love fluff.

That said, after you send yours, I might have to pause apps for a bit while those submitted thus far are processed; a number of them may be asked to resubmit, in which case they'll have priority over new apps.
