My first exposure was through friends at school oddly enough, although it was a combination of TvTropes and the first thread (specifically bwg's reaction to liking the show) that made me take the plunge

You know, when I was a kid I kind of liked Sailor Moon, but it was a "girl thing" so I hardly watched it. Now - and well before the Ponies - I watch magical girl shows and the like all the time. So when I saw there was a second or third Pony thread (not sure which) and it became clear it wasn't just trolling I quickly gave it a shot and immediately loved it. :0

Heh, I had a similar thing happening. We had Sailor Moon airing in my country. It was one of the few things that wasn't crap at the time, so me and my brother watched it, despite girlishness. Then they re-aired every single season, in a semi-hillarious Croatian dub (Compared to the original Japanese, a downgrade. Surprisingly better than the English dub though). For some reason, my brother taped every single episode. Then spent rewatching every episode endlessly (or letting it play in the background as we played on the PCs), for several years, until we both got so sick of them and knew them by memory and we never played them again. Yeah...

As for my first exposure, I believe it was through pony avatars on Something Awful forums (Let's play threads).

"Hey, those ponies look decently animated. Let's see what the deal is... People are getting hooked on this? That's... odd. Okay, macho aside, let's see if this is some cheesy girl-fest or something MST3K mock-worthy. Okay, pilot aside, it's like a decent comedy cartoon. I just hope I don't get hooked on thi-"

Fun Fact - My earliest contacts with pony were a result of a user named Atomic using a 'Drinkie Pie' avatar in the old bencher thread and posting pics of Pinkie Pie repeatedly. Then he and Esrever got into mock 'Best Pony' arguments.

I therefore partally blame him for the weird direction my life has taken.

The rest of it was my own damn fault.

I blame the exact same people. Also a few on IRC back then posting links to the episodes. It's a pity nobody talks on #pesterlite anymore.

Firstly, I'll have to stop freaking the Hell out whenever someone mentions anything even remotely romantic/sexual in regards to this show due to the fact that I can't stop it happening and that some of my own posts in this thread have been less than kid friendly in the past (excessively violent, references to drug use, etc.). If I got like that, though, it was because of an awareness of what outsiders might think of such posts (extreme disproval) and the thought that a kid could stumble across this part of the net and see what's being said (again brought up by other people and apparently enough of a concern to be an issue).

That being said...

And, under the 'not safe for children' category, that avatar did eventually result in a headcannon whereby (human!)Pinkie Pie would have problems with drinking at parties, resulting in her getting so wasted that one of her friends (usually Rainbow Dash) would have to escort her home.

Perhaps that's why the canon one doesn't have alcohol at her parties? I mean, they've very definitely got fruits and grains. And I'm pretty sure we've seen either rising dough or risen bread or some such, so they've got yeasts. It is therefore entirely implausible that they would be unable to have alcohol if they wanted it.

Oh, right, that was part of how I came around to it; Being commissioned to color an anthro-ized pony picture involving Big Mac, and an angry, tiny Rainbow Dash in a (beer?) can, which required me to research some screenshots for color matching purposes. Its pretty terrible looking back at it, mostly because he's WAY too dark red. And because I didn't get where RD was actually supposed to be in the little zoomed in view thing until I looked back at it later. I blame the original line art for being vague. And not particularly well done, though maybe its just because pony/horse muzzles don't anthropomorphize well.

Relatedly, I need to do more art stuff. Anyone want to suggest/offer inks/sketches for coloring practice purposes? I might even try streaming it, if my internet stops being terrible. And I make a new Livestream channel because of some of the stuff I streamed on the old one :V
