    The Story of Skaia

    Overview:
    The Story of Skaia was the product of two things: a semiserious IDE and a bunch of time to think. And the question on my mind was, "How did Skaia come to be?" After a few hours, a couple wiki walks, and a couple energy drinks, I created a rudementary, speculation-plauged fanfic. I drew out a rough map to accompany it, and realized that this could totally be a flash game. Now I wish to create this prequel of sorts, but I have no skill in the arts department to speak of. The game I planned out would be based on Homestuck (obviously), but would play similarly to a Final Fantasy.
    Plot details:
    The main character will not be a Homestuck charector, but he will be created like one.
    The game will feature Prospitans and Dersites, as well a the conflict that will carry over into S___b.
    The game will be bifurcated: one could ally with the White Kingdom or the Black Kingdom.
    The game will be chock-full of references to other games/series, so feel free to suggest one.
    There will be lots of emphasis on creative potential and the ongoing struggle of Light VS Darkness, but neither side is truely right.
    Please note that all names are working name: feel free to suggest new ones.
    The characters will be based on chess pieces, as well as traditional FF job classes.

    This seems like a fairly good idea
    I would happily help on this I know how to sprite in FF6 style as well as RPG maker, should you need help

    I could try spriting. I had to sprite a lot recently, so I'm sort of okay-ish at it. I'd be happy to help with any rudimentary work though!

    What kind of sprites would you want? About how big? And which characters should I attempt at? Should they be chess-type pieces like you said, or will they be like sprited WVs?

    Ok, I just created a picture sharing account.org (login details are above).
    Foerumokaz: I haven't yet decided on the style, but I think the "humanized" chess piece theme should work well for overworld type actions. However, I think that that using sprited versions of the characters would work well for battle scenes.

    I'm also in for any and all artwork!

    Question: What's the plotline? Will there be battles and stuff between sides; will your character hold a position of power/rise to a position of power; will they interact directly with the Kings?

    Also for out-of-battle sprites I was thinking more of this:

    I was thinking this could be either a knight or rook. I did horribly on the arms/hands, and would probably like to add more shaping to the legs. Would this type of thing be what you're looking for?

    EDIT: If you wanted to make it a rook I could easily add the square crown things to its helmet. Also, if you could make a Google Document, it would probably make this game a LOT easier to organize. We would all be informed of what needs to be worked on and the type of work we need to do.

    Emeraldis: I'm still working out the specifics of the plot, but one of the first scenes does invivle a direct dialog between the King and MC.

    Foerumokaz: Not bad, but I think his sword ought to be sheathed (carrying a sword like that would be awkward for walking). He looks like an excellent knight though!

    About the rook: he should be either a mobile castle-thing or a brawny beserker type, depending on whether we take the rook piece literally or figuratively. The former would be pretty cool, but the latter woul make a lot more since.

    It would be awesome if you could make your own character at the beginning. There are certainly enough bases to do so.

    I've made an RPG in flash before.

    Oh my god that was HELL. Flash does not like RPG games. NOT AT ALL.

    But I'm pretty sure I could get the source from that game if you want it.

    Foerumokaz: Awesome, now it just needs palette swaps for white/black

    Arsenicum: I've heard similar things, but clearly it is doable, if we bring MARDEK and Epic Battle Fantasy into consideration. It will take work, but we'll cross that bridge fter I finish workin out plot details and the art is (mostly) finished.

    Foerumokaz: That's a keeper. Keep up the good work!

    In other news, I need a name for the rival/villain. It needs to be medium-short: due to time shenanigans, he is gonna be two people at once, and th name needs tobe able to be anagram'd ( think Org XIII).

    So for the rival/villain, you want his name to be an anagram of another name? I'll see if I can thin one up. In other news, I'm currently working on my interpretation of what a pawn might be like in this hierchal system of ranks. It may be a bit weird, but it makes sense to me.

    I probably should have specified this, but his Villain name is an anagram of his rival name, plus he letter Z. Its supposed to be a reference to Kingdom Heart's Org XIII, where the members are anagrams of thier past selfs plus the letter X.

    I have my pawn finished




    They are supposed to be jester-like, and the huge blue thing in the middle is a shield. I've always felt that pawns would be holding them up, like whenever two pawns in chess are facing each other. Neither of them can do anything because they both have a large defensive wall. That would also be why they don't move very much. If you wanted me to add a design to the shield I could possibly do it.

    The differences between the two are their hat. One of them has the hat becoming black at the protrusion onto their face while the other was the hat staying gray. I didn't know if anyone was going to be able to tell if the black thing was still the hat, so I made the quick change.

    I don't have any ideas for the name yet

    Foerumokaz: Nice, I like the pawn ideas, especially the tie-in to chess. It would be cool to add in a way for them to have a higher defense stat if attacked by an enemy directly in front, as a gimmick.

    Plot update: The main plot has been finished! Subplots and sidequests still need work, but I should have the plot posted soon for those who are working on the game (or are too lazy to wait for its release).

    Due to some shenanigans with my computer, the plot release was a bit delayed (sorry!) but the White Kingdom synopsis is now out! Remember that all names are subject to change, and all comments/criticisms are welcomed.
