Welcome to the new thread for "Let's Read: Homestuck"!
We have decided that ultimately that the old thread was outdated and did not fufill the duty of profiling who we are completely. On top of that we've completely cleared the main hurdle of casting all characters from Acts 1 through 5! Should you wish to view the old thread of our humble beginnings you may do so here.

Back in late August 2011, The CoLab was formed between two "Let's Players" who really didn't know any better. SkittlesAreTasty and I set out on a monumental goal that has been attempted some times before us: To voice act all of Homestuck. Back then, we had nary a clue of the monumental effort, time and dedication that it would take to bring a more audiable experience to a webcomic that has caught the attention of many... In fact, in our naivety we had even rushed the first several episodes before we had even cast the 4 main kids themselves! But through our CoLab'd efforts and a big helping of (godlike) luck, we've brought together over 20 talented individuals into our community to tackle a project that could in total take us well over 2 years at our current pacing. It's a lot to commit to, for sure, but speaking personally for just a second, I can't imagine what life would be like without these guys. I made the right choice in chosing to help see this project to fruition.

SkittlesAreTasty has stepped down from the position of Admin of the CoLab and has left it to me. Since then, I have appointed NickyTheRat as my Assistant Admin.

Q: There's this really cool guy called Octopimp/MasterYorgi and I think you should let him voice the Trolls!
A: Octopimp is already on the job as Eridan and it would be inconsiderate to him to make him voice more than one character. Instead, we have many other talented Voice Actors well suited for all your Troll needs.

Q: What's your policy on Requests / Comissions?
A: We are currently taking requests to voice Fan-comics/works, feel free to send them in! As for comissions, legally we cannot accept.

Q: Hey! Are you currently accepting Auditions?
A: No, I'm afraid at this time, we are not accepting any more auditions. Even for minor roles.

Q: Really? But what about the Act 6 Kids?
A: Unfortunately, it will be well over an entire year before we get to Act 6 at our current rate. Furthermore, it is in our best interests to let the characters develop further so we may fully grasp what voice may suit them. But rest assured, when auditions open for them, we shall let you know.

Q: But Jake sends letters in Act 4!
A: Trust me man, we've got this.

Q: When are episodes released?
A: Every Monday, if we can help it.

Suggestion for Tavrisprite's voice: Use the person voicing Vriska, make her speak as Vriska, but trying to imitate Tavros and use the person voicing Tavros, make him speak as Tavros, but trying to imitate Vriska's voice and alternating between the two at each line.

That will be for Hivebent and for other parts directly involving the trolls, yes. In fact in the original auditions, the part was called 'the troll narrator'. Brad's darker voice and delivery will be a contrast to Badger's genial and warm sounding voice to suit the edgier tone of Alternia. It will also give Badger a break, since he does have massive numbers of lines to record on this project every episode (He's been having a nice rest over this intermission and getting some work done on his Let's Play stuff). There is a possibility we'll take advantage of this to up the speed at which we release episodes, since Badger is also a talented editor (and was the primary editor before Crono came along to be our dedicated editor, seriously I echo what Nicky said a few posts ago- Crono is a star).

They feel bad enough that the episode is being held back since people do look forward to our releases-- so to name them would just be insensitive of me.

It doesn't really make any difference how many or few people are in the cast. If one of us gets ill, it's not like one of the others can do a flawless impersonation of their voice so we can do the episode. In a production like this, everybody's individual voice is important, whether they have loads or very few lines.
Usually we try to avoid this kind of thing by recording lines in advance, but sometimes problems occur, such as:
-The person was cast a short time before their lines appeared so couldn't record in advance.
-The person was really busy/ill and was not able to record in advance.
-The person has so many lines that just keeping up to date with their lines is a lot, so building up a buffer on top would be really hard (that has been a problem with the intermission; each MC member had loads and loads of lines),
-The person recorded their lines in advance, but didn't notice that they accidentally skipped a line of dialogue, said something incorrectly etc. (this can be very hard to avoid because Homestuck has reams of complex prose).

Sometimes stuff goes wrong, and when it does, due to the nature of the project all we can do is to wait for that person to be available to record or rerecord their lines. We appreciate the patience of the viewers when it comes to this stuff, and we intend to work on Act 4 as normal so that the episode following this one will not be held up by this.
