The Care and Keeping of the Homestuck TvTropes Page

There is a lot of overlap between Homestucks and Tropers. Because of this, this page is, to put it mildly, HUGE! Or, as the front page says, "Excessively Verbose."
Now, this is not necessarily a problem; Homestuck does deal in a heck of a lot of Tropes. Hussie knows his stuff, and is not afraid to hang a Lampshade on things. However page has reached such a size where careful editing is difficult. Conversation in the MainPage and a lack of clarity abound. Because we are fans and want everything dealing with Homestuck to be perfect, or at least as good as humanly possible, it has become necessary to combine our efforts.

I intend this thread to be a place to organize our efforts, and avoid working over each other. There are also times when things could be debated, and while TvTropes has their own forum, MSPAF has some better set ups, and also a more Homestuck-centered community. So I think this is really the best place to keep our home base.

So, if you can edit and know the difference between different kinds of meta-fiction, join me!

I have a tvtropes account! I've started a bunch of works pages... mostly plays because the theater selection is just pitiful. I've though of making a page for Restoration theater because it's really troperific, but it would take a lot of work and I haven't been motivated enough

Might be sensible to focus specifically on removing or shortening entries. A lot of the stuff on the various Homestuck pages seems to have been added in the thrill of the moment shortly after an update, and most of it looks sort of silly in hindsight. Also, I'm pretty sure drive-by tropers almost never remove entries, so all this cruft will just stick around forever unless someone gets rid of it.

For example, a few almost-consecutive entries from the Tear Jerker page:
-The conversation where Jade bitches out two Karkats at once.
-A link to this page.
-The moment at the very end of [S] Jade: Enter where she falls through the snow.
-Rose's last line on this page, which is obviously reversed immediately afterwards.

I guess they could be seen as sort of melancholy if you think about them too hard, but I'm pretty sure nobody has ever or will ever cry about those moments. There's also a fair number of entries (like fedorafreak's death, or Andrew's death with the flashing text and the Vriskaface) that objectively don't belong on that page.

Being a Troper, I do go to that page a lot. I haven't edited it ever, though. A lot of my recent edits on TVTropes have been grammar nitpicking.

Do you think in the Fanfic Recs section, should there be tags for illustrated/text-only? I think it would make it easier to find what people are looking for maybe.

There are illustration-only entries? If so, sure, mark those.

If anybody feels they have "finished" a section, say something here, because it is also important to go and check the words on the Trope entry pages as well, and make sure things match-up.

I am not making as much progress as I would like, and I read somewhere that if the thread starter is also the most recent post people are less likely to click on it. That is really the only thing stopping me.

I have not made all that much progress on the main page, but right now I am keeping an eye on the sub pages, like characters, and watching all of the recent edits pretty closely just to keep them clean.

Anybody else who wants to jump in totes should.
