Honestly I usually find MSPaint the best tool for pixel art, though anything with a brush that allows you to disable anti-aliasing will do
You can't use Flash or anything though!

Hey guys, I couldn't find an easy way to go up so I expanded downwards. Hope you don't mind.

I keep a copy of the map in an xcf, with sprites, the background and the foreground kept on different layers. Although I have to perform surgery on the image if the changes are too major. :B

so the bathroom is a cellar but its surrounded in green earth

a bit of the city is under the earth

then a black void with nothing

We are on a green cliffside. The city is not under the earth, that is just fog I guess.
Although I could draw there more buildings, so we will have an entire cityscape over there. :0
