Alright, Ash. I think starting on this page, I'll try to get back on topic. I think the Canadian-ness of my previous 46 simultaneous conversations with CyanCat made up for the lack of relevancy to homestuck, though.

Cyan, don't get me wrong, we were having a great 107 conversations there, all at once, but I think closing the thread was a good way to close our conversations. It was getting really really hard to keep up that many conversations, and it took forever to post them.

I have seen characters strife with things that they don't have in their specibus. My personal opinion is that it is a handy way of storing weapons, like a quick draw feature, not a way of establishing your exclusive strifing tools.

Hey guys jumping in on the new thread with a problem. In an adventure on the Fan Adventure thread, a problem has arisen in regards to the Strife Deck.
Some people, myself included, believe that one can only Strife with equipment included in their Strife Deck. Others seem to believe that the Strife Deck is just another Storage system for weapons for easy access during Strife. I wagered on the grounds purposed in ckret2's Be the Seadweller Lowblood, that minor infractions, such as punching an enemy in the throe of battle, are not counted as legitimate Strife and just an average fight, like when John punched the Imp in [S] Enter. Otherwise, you are restricted to that which you have on your cards. This coincides with the existence of Fistkind, which allows hand-to-hand combat, but would otherwise be debunked as a card if you don't follow the proposed 'restriction' theory of Strife Decks.

Thoughts and or opinions on the matter at hand? I'm considering also posting this query in the IDE thread seeing as how it would follow under it's jurisdiction as well.

My opinion/headcanon is that strife specibi act like weapon proficiencies a la D&D - you can use anything normally, but the specibus grants you more control and knowledge on how to use the weapon correctly, and in the case of weapons with ammunition, provides unlimited amounts of those.

Personally, I lean towards the storage system theory. For one thing, it's been proven that it's possible to use a weapon you don't have a specibus set for ([S] Wake as an example.) Also, considering that it's very easy to captchalogue something just by grabbing it (see: John in Act 1, Karkat in the beginning of Act 5.1), having something you need to access quickly in a different system would be very useful, especially if you didn't have something as easy to retrieve from as the wallet modus, which seems to be the case most of the time.

Edit: And above me makes sense as well, especially regarding things like fistkind.

But if John uses the Windy Thing to destroy enemies, does that not count as Strife? Does John now possess WndyThngkind? I seem to remember reading a theory that Strife Decks simply allow storage for weapons of that 'kind' without needing to use the Sylladex proper. I don't know how Fistkind fits into this. Perhaps using an item aligned with your Strife Portfolio simply increases the power of that item?

I think it's also been implied that there are weapons that are more powerful than allowed by the kind abstratus.

Also I don't think Dave ever repaired his Specibus. If I am interpreting this correctly, he draws his half blades from his deck and then rewinds their time to a point in which they are unbroken, before fast forwarding them again to sheath them in his specibus once he is finished.

Also I think that the progenitors of a universe would be present in both incarnations of said universe assuming they were successful in achieving the ultimate reward. Ie; not the trolls.

I would guess that, if players do end up just living in the new universe... probably both? If they arrive before the point at which a Scratch causes the divergence of universes (if there is a point and it isn't "creation" - perhaps the moment of the first meteor arrival?), obviously they'd be in both. If they arrive after... I'm still inclined to think both... sort of like the meteors themselves...

Okay, so if the previous universe's victors arrive at any point in the new universe's timeline before the Scratch (that is, before any ectobaby meteors arrive), they'll be in both versions. But since I think they'd be in both anyway, I guess it ultimately doesn't matter?

I don't think Sylladex could actively stop you from attacking someone with something that's not part of your chosen Strife Abstratus. I think it's mostly to allow needed access to weapons for people with modi which limit card access.
