    LACKADAISY

Lackadaisy (http://www.lackadaisycats.com/) is a comic by Tracy J. Butler featuring the folks who run and patronize the eponymous Prohibition-era speakeasy in St. Louis, but especially the manic Rocky Rickaby.

The pages are beautifully illustrated, always funny or dramatic in just the right ways, and the extras are never to be missed; truly, with painstaking research and more period slang than you can wave your iron at, Butler brings the 1920s alive in the lowlife highlife of the American Midwest.

At risk of saying too much and making you spend time reading this when you could be browsing the site and reading the comic, I’ll stop here and give you a glimpse of the colorful (albeit usually sepia-toned) cast of characters. Oh, by the way: cats.

    Nothin' wrong with cats.

(This is an excellent comic that does not get nearly enough attention)

Probably the best artist at accurate+subtle facial expression (some characters less subtle than others). Maybe contended by Evan Dahm.

BUT YEAH THIS IS SO GOOD. Last few pages have really tickled my fancy.

The unrealistic body image it was projecting on the youth led to a feline redesign.

I remember hearing about this comic a long time ago. I was interested in it then a lot, but I haven't heard much about it since.

I absolutely love the art styling, and the facial expressions never fail to impress me.

That page on Expressions was actually one of the things I've seen from the Author that impressed me when I first saw her DeviantART.

I mean god damn, that's some real talent.

As did I, Niksync. ^^ I think the first page I ever saw was when Zib broke Mitzi's necklace. I had no idea what was going on but I liked it.

    Re: LACKADAISY

    I just read through this.
Why the fuck did I not read through this earlier? It is the most best thing.
Well, no, this is the most best thing, but you understand my point.

But, like, it's set in the prohibition era.
Which is one of the best historical settings ever forever ever.
...I could be completely wrong though.

    Re: LACKADAISY

I had reluctantly dropped this from my bookmarks because it took forever to update.

Thanks for reminding me. Going back into them now because every update, no matter how long it takes, is utterly worth it.

Viktor and Mordecai are my personal favorites. And I will always hold this comic up to naysay anyone that hates on anthropomorphic animal art, because these cats are frickin' awesome.

    Re: LACKADAISY

I agree! There are a lot of comics that use animals because of an author's furry background, or simply because cartoon animals are simply easier to draw, but it's fairly clear that there are no such inhibitions present here.
