Berating her at this point is only going to push her further down the hole she's fallen into.

This is going to be a devastating blow for her, and we're going to need to support her and figure out how to move forward from this. Elsewise she'll probably turn to the drink again and we'll be back where we started.

Anyway, as nice as Sigrid is, she just left you with nowhere to stay and nothing to wear. So we'll have to remedy that. For now, I think you should head to the church. Explain your situation to them. Be honest. Ask for a place to stay, even if for only one night, and maybe they have spare robes that you could wear? Don't offer payment, the last thing you need is more debt, but if they do force the issue then say you'll pay them back when you can.
Once you're in the church, examine your inventory. Things might not be as bad as we think. Also, how's that mana supply doing? If you feel particularly hollow or cold, maybe one of the priests will be kind enough to cast a healing spell on you. Heck, you should probably ask for one anyway. Do something about that eye.
Then get some rest. It'll be okay, darling. I promise. You're Katia Manigan, you've been in worse places before and you got through those! Get some sleep, we'll figure out what to do in the morning.

it wasn't really a deus ex machina, some people actually saw the speech craft for what it was before it was made obvious.

No it was most definitely a Deus Ex. We, collectively, had beaten an NPC with 100 Speechcraft (which in turn could be interpreted as Katia having 100 speechcraft at that moment). However in a situation we had absolutely no control over, Kazerad introduced a variable that immediately stole our ability to say no.

If Kaz HADN'T had Sigrid use that potion (even though it was fairly well foreshadowed) then we would have walked out of there none the worse for wear (sans having no place to sleep).

However, Kazerad DID do that, and since Katia's position drastically changed and DIDN'T change in time for us to handle it, it is most definitely a Deus Ex Machina from Kazerad.

If I got the chronology right, in one month Katia will be the Champion of Cyrodiil, the Mad God of Madness, and probably trying to fruitlessly medicate her PTSD with alcohol. Also, "have the problem solve itself off-screen" isn't really what I'd call a plan.

It wasn't a Charm spell. It was Fortify Personality. The magic isn't affecting Katia, it's affecting Katia's perception of Sigrid. Judging from all the people who spoke highly of Sigrid earlier, it IS going to last forever. And Katia is probably incredibly vulnerable to it on account of her low stats and abysmal self-respect.

Welp. I'm slowly starting to come to terms with this. I mean, she's still better off than she would have been had she stayed in Hammerfell. Probably. And it's not like it was impossible to see this coming.

Katia: Technically speaking, neither book is legally your possession. The defaced book is still Quill-Weave's property, and that other book is also hers, given that you're delivering it to her.
Thus they are not yours to give, nor are they Sigrid's property.
Sigrid probably didn't lock the door behind her (because what does she have to fear?), so open it and go back inside.

Katia, you have to have to resist all urges to just get drunk again! It's time to find clothes and somewhere to sleep. Get dressed in something and beg the woman at the orphanage or else the priest temple for a place to stay for one night. Sigrid, if you notice, did not heal you so now a priest will be needed for that as well. When they do ask them to teach you healing spells! Really, how many times have you not asked how they do that? You just keep meeting mages and don't ask for pointers on anything. The Legionnaire had to teach you how to use fireballs in his own way. Maybe now you will learn to pick your friends better. Anyway, it's time to move Katia.

Alright, Katia. Sigrid can't accept any new members right now. Possibly because of all the work she's doing to make the guild respectable again. You know what you can do to help? Give her a hand from the inside. You've got the skills to join the Mage's guild, and there's a hall in Anvil. You know what to do. She'd be flattered to know you went all that way to help her. And that's what friends do. Help each other and not rob them blind. Might want to get some clothes first. And since you'll be on your way back, see about getting that book for Quill-Weave. Can't forget about helping her.

Once she's out of town (or at least has more than just the amulet to her name,) then we can start working on what to do about getting charismarobbed. Not much she can do nearly naked on the street and mostly untrained with either of the weapons she has.

To be honest it isn't that bad. It seems like Sigrid has "befriended" damn near everyone in Kvatch, so it's not like Katia's alone in being swindled.
