Fuchsia Ruler...just pure brilliance. I was expecting an orchestral, but the electronic theme made it so much better.

Re: {NEW ALBUM} coloUrs and mayhem: Universe A is OUT!!!

My overall impression of the album is that...
It is really different the the previous ones.
However, I can attribute this by the fact that it consists of several different artist, even more then Vol 5 or LoFaM. Though I'm surprised the consistency is pretty good overall.
I'm still torn on the overall feel though. Some of the tracks captured the overall feel of the characters well, (Olive Rogue and Scribe, Jade Mother, Iron Knight, Cobalt Thief for personal reasons) but others felt kinda off for the character (Purple Bard, to some extent Jade Sylph, but it fits well considering what would be considered goth to trolls.). I guess, though, it's the pacing that throws me off at times, as well as the overall swinging between somber and rapid (sometimes at the same time) it gives off. That being said, I really love the album, especially Olive Rogue (Air for Eclectic Bass! I knew I heard this one before! and it fits ether Jade or Nepeta.), Fuchsia Ruler (Those Appigeddios and Step rhythm are amazing),Gold Mage (Seriously, this is reminding me of Sonic CD, both US and Jap Soundtracks) and Nine Lives One Love (Excellent useage of bells.......But again I've relasped into the theory that Alpha Nepeta is gonna be alone forever :\. Why is her somber pieces always so fucking soul torturing...)

Really can't Wait for Universe B

I find it interesting that you say this when Olive Rogue, Olive Scribe, Jade Mother, Iron Knight, and Cobalt Thief were all intended for different characters, and Jade Sylph was made specifically for Kanaya.

I'm not disagreeing with you; a lot of the re-purposed tracks really are a pretty good fit for the characters they were assigned to. It's just something notable, I guess.

So hey. Guys. Heard two of the tracks (I'm guessing the ones for Darkleer and the Highblood) were apparently plagiarized from some other songs? Anyone mind telling me what those songs were?

Also if anyone else thinks some other songs will be chosen to fill in the vacancies (probably, maybe)?

EDIT: Looked through the thread and had my own questions answered for me. Nevermind!

Anyways, I've been listening to the album all day in repeat, and my favorite song out of everything was Fuchsia Ruler. When I heard it, I instantly recognized as Witc)(ing )(our, which I was rooting for to make it into the album. I also liked Eridan's theme too!

Yeah, I do agree on you with that. But remember, they were also going with consistency, as well as to fill out all the characters slots. Some shifts were expected, and both Hussie and Radiation said as much.
It also gives many of the characters more variety in terms of themes, yet keeping with the feel of the character. Cobalt Thief, Iron Knight, and Purple Bard are good examples of this. Vriska had too many guitar lead songs save for Do you Remem8er me? Most of Karkats were ether harsh Synths or somber synths, and Gamzees were mostly honks, MiRaClEs, bootstapped Darkest Heart, but not really any sort of good theme for him in my view quite honestly...
To me it's really about trying different feels for the characters.

The honk songs are great for Gamzee. Every time I hear one of those, they sound rediculously sinister, which is just how it should be.

Re: {NEW ALBUM} coloUrs and mayhem: Universe A is OUT!!!

Welp, I finally finished listening to all these tracks.

I've got to say, this might by my most favorite album yet! It really contains so MANY awesome tracks.

If I could, I'd say almost ALL OF THEM were my most favorite tracks.

    Well, almost all of them.

I dunno, Jade Sylph didn't appeal to me that much. It constantly felt like it was building up to something, but then nothing happened.

Here's my opinions on all different songs, and what I imagined with it:

    - SIDE 1: That was a good introduction to the album! And did I recognize Black or Liquid Negrocity in there?
    - Rust Servant: It was good to get into the mood of the album! It immediately blew me away with its awesomeness. I imagine that this is a song about the Handmaid having to destroy things as ordered by Lord English.
    - Bronze Rebel: With this I imagine the Summoner's revolution being depicted from it starting up till it was stopped. That would be a good music to accompagny it!
    - Gold Pilot: I think this music might depict the Helmsman being abused on the Condesce's ship and/or him controlling the ship (with those beeping sounds which was a nice addition by the way).
    - Iron Infidel: I think this speaks for itself, with the Signless leading his revolution. I really like lyrics with Homestuck songs, and ESPECIALLY if they're in a different language like now.
    - Olive Scribe: All I could hear was groovy African music. AWESOME groovy African music.
    - Jade Mother: This music felt quite holy, like church music (which is appropriate with her Christian similarities!). I imagine this playing when she found the Signless.
    - Teal Hunter: There were 2 different vibes I got with this one. Like Pokémon background music, or Terezi Pyrope: Ace Attorney background music. It also felt like general music for while Redglare is solving a case.
    - Cobalt Corsair: This felt like accurate music depicting her life: a lot of action (pirate stuff, in court with Redglare) --> a bit chiller (having run away after killing Redglare) --> more action again (her life after meeting the Summoner).
    - Violet Mariner: Music accompagnying him while he's on sea, I'd say. Also, this perfectly shows what smug bastard and show-off he was.
    - Fuchsia Ruler: All I could think was Queen of Pop. :P And I'd swear I heard a bit of Black in there? That would be appropriate as a bit of Black was used for her in [S] PoH: Rise up too, and with her being the new empress.
    - SIDE 2: While Side 1 suspiciously reminded me of Black, this one reminds me of how Black ends! Hehehe, nice.
    - Rust Maid: This feels like some perfect walkaround music for Aradia! Alternatively, I'm imagining her giving instructions to other people, and them doing these things to this music.
    - Bronze Page: Oh my god this is the perfect opening for a Fiduspawn anime, resembling the Pokémon anime, in which Tavros is on a journey with Horsaroni and resembles Ash Ketchum. And don't think I didn't see the Breath symbol on the background of the track art there. ;D
    - Gold Mage: The first thing that came to my mind with this cool music is some kind of final battle between the heroes and Jack/Lord English/Condesce.
    - Iron Knight: NO COMMENT. JUST. KARKAT DOING A GUITAR SOLO. THAT IS ALL.
    - Olive Rogue: At first it seemed to me like Nepeta playing some kind of blues-song. And then, it felt like it became some kind of video-game music, or music depicting her sailing on the sea with Karkat (like the track art). And with the last part I imagined her dancing with Karkat in a couple of different styles (latin, hiphop, breakdance). This was certainly one of my favorite songs from this album!
    - Jade Sylph: Like I said above, this is my least favorite track from this album. All I could think with this was that it was calm music like with the other themes for Kanaya. I couldn't imagine anything with this. It all seemed like a build-up to something that never came.
    - Teal Seer: This. This is Terezi's theme music in which she became a villain. Alternatively, I'm imagining her appearing from the darkness, or a new kind of walkaround music for her! The music also reminded me of Fantasia, with those broom-sticks.
    - Cobalt Thief: This either seems like Sadstuck, or Vriska being in a romantic moment with someone (John?).
    - Indigo Heir: This sounds like either new walkaround music for Equius, or him playing piano like John (and somehow not breaking the keys?). Then I imagined this being a God-Tier acension music, or Equius fighting a very difficult battle which he's almost going to lose.
    - Purple Bard: Dat trackart . That's the best of this album, hands down. And do I see the ones he tortured, Equius, Nepeta and John on the background? Awesome. Ahem, track-art aside... I'd swear I heard small parts of Showtime and Doctor somewhere. And I imagine this playing while Kanaya is fighting Gamzee or something.
    - Violet Prince: It seemed like I heard a bit of Eridan's Theme there, but played on the flute. I'm imagining him shooting angels down while not taking it serious at all. Good job!
    - Fuchsia Witch: This reminded me A LOT of "Love you", which is a very cool track too! And I'm imagining Feferi in an underwater paradise. And it is awesome. A track for her land, maybe?
    - Additional mayhem: Just like with Side 1 and Side 2, I think I hear Black in it. But I think I'm also hearing a reversed version of Black at the same time?
    - Your Universe: All the Sadstuck. All of it. I never thought I'd feel Sadstuck with a Snowman song! It feels to me like she's in a salloon, playing this song on the piano. Oh my god I'm having all these FEELINGS for this song!
    - Superego: I don't think this needs any words. This seems like Vriska's super ego while playing FLARP. Yup.
    - Made of Time: This seems like a good alternative to MeGaLovania for when Aradia goes God-Tier and then fights Jack!
    - Nine Lives One Love: Dat track-art again . The beginning is a bit happy, so I'd say that's about the Disciple and Signless going through adventures together. But then the music goes sadder, so that's obviously for Nepeta. It sounds like the earlier part of the song, with how Nepeta's imagining how her life would be if she could be together with Karkat. SADSTUCK AGAIN.
    - Temporal Shenanigans: WELP. IT IS RACHEL. I really loved her "CR1M1N4L, CR1M1IN4L", and I'm a bit sad that song is not on the album. But I didn't know about this song! This is AWESOME! Rachel has such a good singing voice and now it's immediately my head-canon voice for Aradia. I think Aradia's fases of living are pretty clear in this. First she's dead, then she's a robot, and then she's alive and her different forms sing together. The ticking of the clock in the background was a nice touch! Good job!

Next time I buy an album, there's a big chance it's going to be this one!

But obviously I'm going to wait a bit until the tracks for the Grand Highblood and Darkleer are put on it. I can't wait!

I don't think you need to wait. I'm pretty sure that once the new tracks are put up, the people who have already bought the album will be able to download them for free.

Re: {NEW ALBUM} coloUrs and mayhem: Universe A is OUT!!!

Just finished all of them except for Purple Bard and Indigo Heir. Because I decided to listen to them one after another (Rust to Rust, Fuschia to Fuschia etc.) I won't touch them for now.

But can I say? The ancestor girls definitely got the better tracks overall. Olive Scribe, Jade Mother, Teal Hunter, and Fuschia Ruler are my jams. I also liked them in comparison to their B2 counterparts although I was a bit dissapointed by Fuschia Witch. It fits the character though.

The best thing though, was listening to Bronze Rebel and then Bronze Page. Oh how the Taurus zodiac bearers have fallen. It was still awesome though. I also like the extreme contrast between Iron Infidel and Iron Knight and let me just say for the record that Iron Infidel is the best name of anything ever. Gold Pilot was probably my favorite track overall though.

    All in all good album.

    I DO NOT LIKE YOU.

My only complaint with this album is that although the tracks are good they really don't evoke images or feelings associated to their respective characters. Like at all. I'm hoping that this won't happen with the Universe B album.

ANDREW HUSSIE: Gamzee but only cause he killed a bunch of them.

Iron Infidel didn't evoke images of Jegus? And Iron Knight wasn't angry? And Fuschia Ruler's Bubble Background noises wasn't particularly Condescending?

But yeah, Jade Sylph was awesome and I don't know what the above guy is talking about.

Ok, some of them do. Like the bubbles for Fuschia Ruler is just a dead giveaway. But still, a lot of them don't.

The wonderful thing I think with an album like this is that it comes to show that for fans, artists, creators and musicians alike, we all have different ways of interpreting the wonderful world of Homestuck. The Music Team has done a fantastic job throughout these past couple of years providing a soundscape for the comic's lore to go hand in hand with, and shining some spotlight on some other great talents has managed to invoke visions we have a bit harder time accustoming to due to the diversity in techniques, ideas and concepts. At first, I merely "liked" the album. But the more I listened to it, the more I came to love every track on it, and appreciate the visions that each musician put forth for every character. In the end, it all comes down to subjective views, but ones that obviously still need to resonate within certain boundaries.

Side A in particular has music all revolving about characters we know very little of, so certainly the interpretation on those will be a lot more different depending on the person. But I definitely did get a good "vision" in my head on many tracks. Bronze Rebel sounds like such a wonderful desperado hymn, befitting of someone who's rebelling with the powers of many. Iron Infidel is so wonderfully prophetic, and Fuchsia Ruler is incredibly devious and brutal. It seems befitting to me that the latter is a lot more "in your face" than the others, since the other characters live on merely as myths and legends while the Condesce is one of the current big bads.

Then there's Side B, the more grounded side for lack of a better word. Gold Mage, I can imagine Sollux on his badass escapades of technology and optic blasts, Iron Knight being stuck in Karkat's head on repeat while ripping up some mooks Threshecutioner style, or Cobalt Thief being the backdrop to one of Vriska's more conflicting moments when she faces the fact that she can't really undo her atrocities. Oh, and of course Bronze Page. I probably don't really need to even begin going in depth on that one.

Really, I love this album, and it's just another reason for me to love how music and Homestuck goes hand in hand so well.

Fuchsia Ruler has some Liquid Negrocity and twoward2 the heaven2 in it.

I think one of the reasons I like Sylph so much is that it reminds me of Requiem of Sunshine and Rainbows. Both in mood and Rainbow Drinker-ness. Also, I would say that RoSaR wasn't a very calm song.

I actually think that all the tracks are spot on with the characters. Some of them aren't obvious like Fuchsia Witch or Rust Maid, but they fit.
    And Carbo worded things better.

Also, I neglected to compliment Purple Bard last time. I'm really fond of the intro in particular and how suddenly it starts up.

I've got a question for the musicians of the new album: Just out of curiosity, what were you told (or rather, how much were you told) when you were informed that your track had been selected?

For example, was the maker of The Green Odyssey told that their song would be renamed to Gold Pilot and given to the Psionic? Was the maker of Temporal Shenanigans told that their song would be one of three Aradia songs on the album, but wouldn't be the "main" theme for that character?

I just like to know who knew what when.

Yeah, we were told what the songs would be retitled to and who they would be allocated to as soon as we were notified that they were selected.

As soon as I read that Violet Mariner was going to be a Dualscar song I immediately thought "Of course! Why didn't I think of that!?" I think the choices of re-allocation were pretty much spot-on and sensible.

Why does everyone like Temporal Shenanigans so much? I can barely stand to listen to it. The lyrics sound clunky to me. The melody is really repetitive and the instrumentation doesn't work very well. Even the singer annoys me, although I'm not entirely sure why on that one, since she has a very nice voice.

Why is it so hard for people to understand the simple concept behind 'different taste in music'? Seriously. It's not because someone like it that you automically have to. And it's not because you can't stand it that everybody will have the same stance on it. Gosh.

All right, I was a bit harsh, but I was just really surprised that there seemed to be literally no one who didn't like it. Like, am I just totally off my nut? There's gotta be someone who agrees with me somewhere - so where the hell are they?

We can do that and still be civil. We can also not do that and keep everything lovely. I for one am not a big fan of Temporal Shenanigans, that's just me throwing me two cents out there.

I didn't like Temporal Shenanigans either, but I prefer to talk about the tracks that catch my interest instead of the bashing the one's that don't. I will say that the lyrics were clever though, since it's abstract enough that a non homestuck fan could enjoy it.

And for some reason I can't stop listening to Iron Infidel.

I guess the lyrics are all right. I dunno, songs written for a specific fandom (I guess you could call them filk songs?) tend to bother me anyway, so that's probably a big part of it.

And what do you mean for some reason? Iron Infidel is amazing.

It's not the most brilliantly written song in the world or anything, but then it's not like (say) a Leonard Cohen song would be especially appropriate for Homestuck. Temporal Shenanigans has just the right mix of dorkiness and pathos for the story of a spectral, time-traveling 13-year-old nerd. "Clunkiness" has its place. (Also I really like the circles / spirographs thing.)

I like the instrumentation and melody. *shrug* I think the repetitiveness is thematically appropriate, for obvious reasons, though that may not redeem it for you.
