I must say. Bronze Page was a huge let down.I though "Oh sweet battle song for Tavros!" but then it turned into that dorky theme song and i almost cried.
I would rather have the first 13 seconds as a separate song. That would be cool.

I haven't gone through the whole album just yet, but so far I absolutely love Gold Pilot, Fuchsia Ruler, and Olive Rogue. Bronze Page is also wonderful, and Iron Infidel is poignant in an interesting way.

I think I'm going to have to say that that seems like the point. An action-packed song wouldn't really work for Tavros. Anyone is free to prove me wrong about that, though. Speaking for myself, I really like Bronze Page and think it's perfect for him.
My personal favorites would have to be Teal Seer, Jade Sylph, Fuchsia Ruler, Iron Infidel, Olive Scribe, and Violet Prince. I also wasn't expecting to like Superego, but it's grown on me.
You fiend!
This bothers me also. Indigo Bard could have worked and then he could have been Blue Heir. Cerulean Thief and then Cobalt Heir could have worked.
Sorry..just.. sorry
I'm just really against pretty much anything with vocals in my homestuck. Zillyhoo is pretty much it.

Knight of Void
Everyone knows all trolls have 20/20 vision, Sollux's is 10/10 even. All trolls who wear glasses are hipsters who think they look: "awwesome, sophistic8ed, 2pectacular B), JUST1F13D, and D--> E%ceptionally c001."
My issue with Bronze Page isn't the song itself. It is, as others have mentioned, adorable and dorky, which I'm okay with. My issue is that it was put into this album as Tavros' theme, when it's much closer to being the theme song for "Fiduspawn: the TV show". That, coupled with the fact that it's so short, makes it seem like Tavros kind of got the short end of the stick here. But then, what else is new?
Alright, after listening to the album ten times over (and still going), I think I can form a list of my top five. And reactions to them.
First off: Temporal Shenanigans. This is the first time I love a song that is sung by a woman. Seriously, I rarely like when women sing. But this...this is awesome. The song in itself is so melancholic, and so bittersweet. The lyrics are really squeezing my heart everytime I hear them. It seems like Aradia is actually trying to justify her actions, both to her friends and to herself. As if she rejected what she was. Especially 'You see, I'm far from empty'.
Second: Your Universe. Another song which again break my 'never-like-women-singing' habit. The lyrics are again spot-on, with Snowman's attitude and her relationship with Slick. There's a lot of emotions into that song and I like how it goes up and down. The jazzy feeling is also pretty breathtaking. The double meaning of some of the verses ('I took your arm to show that I care', 'I am your universe') is great.
Third: Jade Sylph. I've said it many times. It's awesome. However, I don't like who it's associated with. It's much too electronic for Kanaya. But the song in itself is good, nonetheless. The rhythm is similar to many songs from Vol. 8, which is good, since that's my favorite album.
Fourth: Gold Pilot. It sounds like something out of Chrono Trigger. The sweet jingle at the beginning...it makes me cry a little, considering what happened to the Psiioniic. I think it might not have been associated with him, but it's good for his theme.
Fifth: I would say Cobalt Corsair. I always liked piratey songs, especially those who remind me of Pirates of the Caribbean. I think every of Mindfang's songs have left that same impression on me. I can picture scenes when I listen to it, which is probably one of the best thing a song could do for me.

Let's restate this one more time for prosperity. Two songs were removed for being copies of two songs from the Frozen Synapse Soundtrack. Hope I didn't come off as rude with that.
Also after a day of thinking I came up with this idea: Most of the Ancestor tracks are have an orchestrated, why? Orchestra is old and fits those oldies. The Condesce's theme gets to be the only electronic one because she's 'hip', 'modern', and still alive during the Alpha session.
...I will admit that sounded a lot better in my head.
Some personal standouts:
Iron Infidel: Stunning. Boo to those complaining about the vocal intonation -- I'd call it "stark," with its vigorous if sub-professional delivery and a reverb like it's being performed in a cave (which is perfect, considering the troll in question presumably didn't hold meetings out in the open).
Bronze Page: Bahahaha! I picture this not as the intro to a TV show but to a theatrical production of Fiduspawn. The music was co-written by an indie-rock band and a stalwart veteran of musical theatre who also performed the vocals. Both sides approached intending good-faith collaboration; neither was sure how to feel when whilst neither side was particularly happy with the compromise they found they'd produced an ironic masterpiece.
Iron Knight: You know what's awesome? That whole "Strife!" record by Tensei. And as a consequence, so is Iron Knight. Although I do wish I could lay my hands on the master recordings so I could thicken up the rhythm guitar a bit; sometimes it feels like there's a lead guitarist and a bassist looking around to discover that the second guitarist's gone off for a beer and a piss during the last solo and nobody's noticed.
Olive Rogue: Genius. Favourite track. Glorious bass and rhythm-led piece. This being said, if you lay your hands on a talented funk bassist it is your solemn duty not to let them escape after the first 16 bars.
Your Universe: A very near second place. It is officially cheating to have a very talented lounge jazz quartet you just happen to have hanging about though. This is probably the ending theme to Homestuck the Move VII, over an artsy shot of a cueball arcing gracefully through the air. (Homestuck the Movie IV was all Hivebent, after which Hussie was lynched and now directs from his underground lair)
Anyone have any information on which of the songs in the album were originally meant for other characters than they ended up representing?
Check out my webcomic: The Amazing and Remarkably True Adventures of Kim and Amy. It'll probably be fun.
This. Your Universe isn't something that I would turn the radio dial away from (if it was playing on the radio, hypothetically), but it doesn't grab me the way many of the other tracks on the album do. Then again, my preference for Homestuck music generally leans more to the orchestral and less to the vocal. Temporal Shenanigans is a beautiful exception. I will also echo the collective jawdrop at the full chorus section of Iron Infidel. It seemed a bit weak, and then BAM!
Some of the other especially noteworthies that made their way through the awesome overload I received - Bronze Rebel, Fuchsia Ruler, and Teal Seer. There are probably a few others besides those five that are on the top rungs of their echeladders, but I'm still in the initial shock state of the gestalt of cool.
Temporal Shenanigans would be perfect for a Homestuck musical.
I think I like Iron Infidel, but I actually find it really heartrendingly sad, to the point that, in the one time I've listened to it, I almost wanted to stop partway through because it was too much. I think that counts as "a good thing," though.
A lot of this album is really neat. Gold Pilot, Olive Scribe, Teal Hunter, Violet Mariner, Indigo Heir . . . (Yeah, I guess I like orchestral stuff.)
i adore pretty much everything
not a big fan of purple bard, reminds me too much of my MMORPG years for some reason
i especially love Your Universe. i adore jazz, i adore sad songs, i adore spades slick and snowman, and i adore shit i can relate to.
i enjoyed temporal shenanigans, but i cant help but feel that the title is a bit unfitting. it sounds very lighthearted, but the song sounds very.... foreboding. almost as if its warning us about something aradia will do in the future, something similar to the handmaid. its the "im here and i see things you cant possibly comprehend" song
i love the bronze songs and that is all there is to say on the matter
cobalt thief, jade mother, and iron infidel were probably three of the most heartrending homestuck songs i've heard, coming behind only "Serenade" and "Do You Remem8er Me". jade mother and iron infidel are, in particular, incredibly fitting for their characters. the german works perfectly for the sufferer too, for some reason or another.
also indigo heir is creepy just as it should be
Well I can't help but feel sadened by that. Oh well, people are entitled to taste.
In fact, I never had much faith Purple Bard was all that good. Everyone else makes nice orchestral pieces with vocals while I feel that mine is an ugly sore. I didn't even pick Gamzee. I just sorta titled it Paradox Shard and let the music team decide on a character and name.
I should probably just stop caring what people think of it before I even start.
Been listening to these at random, haven't quite sorted out my favourites yet.
Why have my Bandcamp purchases as of late failed to have working album art? The stuff shows up as icons in Explorer, but I can't see it in Winamp or iTunes, and the images are corrupt looking, or blank black on media devices. Note this covers more than just Homestuck, but at least with say, Renard, I could correct things in iTunes because everything used the same image and the file was provided.

But if you ever get a pesterChum handle, it'll be linguisticGoo, and you'll write mostly normally. But with commas often replaced by periods.
