JPGs are meant for photographs, not drawings. Among other problems, they suffer from "generation loss", which means that if you take a JPG image, edit it, and then save it as a JPG again, the quality will be worse. So if (as we are doing) you edit the picture every time someone makes a move, it will end up looking quite atrocious by the end of the game.

PNGs are the best image format for most uses. GIFs and BMPs are less-than-ideal, but they'll probably work OK.

Question about 3-chess: Does the game end when 1 person is checkmated, or do the two surviving players duke it out? And it looks like it's possible to kill the king without him actually being checkmated (e.g. on Red's move, the Blue Knight is between the Red King and the Green Queen, but Red is not in check; Blue moves the Knight away, Green Queen captures Red King, game over). Is that actually what happens?

Well, there are only two people in our game. If a third player shows up I'm happy to keep playing, but until then we can't really do much.
