NWOBHM yes! I love finding out about some obscure 7" that never made it very far.

Yeah just heard about the Re-issue of that album, with a DVD! Yet that's my least favorite Cloven Hoof album, still great album in general though!

I always laugh when I see that they put like one thousand sticker on the album cover saying "Featuring Bruce Dickinson!!!!11!!!!!!eleven!"

Great stuff! I guess I've never really looked too deep into Bruces history, I've always enjoyed the Di'Anno albums more, yet still love Iron Maiden as a whole.

I've been listening to a fun little Italian band, Fingernails.

Does one of the riffs in this song sound familiar at all?

New Deathhammer! It so happens to kick a reasonable amount of ass.

Great song I just discovered. Black 'N Roll.

The main riff in that Blood Cult song strongly reminds me of this song:

I love 331erock, he's awesome at doing those.
I prefer Symphonic Power Metal myself, like Sonata Arctica and Stratovarious, but plain ol' Dragonforce is cool too. Their new album is great, the songs have a lot more variety, and the new singer is awesome. Of course, I still like classic metal (Iron Maiden, Metallica) with a bit of thrash (Megadeth and Judas Priest)

Anyone else in here a fan of progressive/jazz/experimental metal or the much-debated "genre" of djent?

More specifically, are there any Periphery, Gru, Modern Day Bablyon, Animals as Leaders, or The Algorithm fans here?

If not, y'all gotta check this shit out.

I tend to be sympathetic to what the prog/jazz/experimental metal bands are doing, but I don't typically listen to it very much. I dunno, a lot of it just doesn't really do much for me as a genre. Prog on its own just seems kind of...homogenized, I suppose, despite the fact that it's supposed to be "experimental," or "progressive," or whatever.

I do often like it when other genres are mixed with prog, though. As an example, I've been listening to the jazz-influenced death metal band Atheist lately. I really dig some of what they did, and I think they were pretty progressive for their time.

If you're just getting into Atheist, have you checked out Cynic or Gorod? Those are the big names in jazz metal.

Cynic and Gorod are great too. For whatever reason, though, I could never really get into Atheist. They were definitely groundbreaking but their songs just don't grab me like Cynic does.

I have looked into Cynic, but I'm not familiar with Gorod. Thanks for the suggestion; I will check them out.

Another random band that I keep coming back to for some reason:

That is awesome. And apparently there's an unusually high concentration of metal in... Bhutan? Interesting.

    Where'd you find this?

I guess you could say the same for pretty much any genre of metal out there (the part about the music being homogenized). But yeah, I can see why that would disinterest you. To be honest I haven't found a large number of prog/jazz/etc metal bands that are all that gripping, but I can at the very least say the intent/idea of the genre is something I take great pleasure in.

I'll look into Atheist. I've heard some positive stuff said about them in general.

Also that map is fucking killer. I can't help but study it for a while and imagine all of those different social environments.

Actually, while it looks a bit reddish at first, if you zoom in you’ll see it’s actually grey due to a lack of data.

I found it on Strange Maps. It’s worth noting that a few inaccuracies have been found already (as is bound to happen when the difference between zero bands and one band is easy to spot). An impressive concept nonetheless.

Pretty sure it was mainly based off data from Metal-Archives.

    Re: Metal Music Chat

Progressive metal anyone? Or other things
    My favorites:
Protest the Hero, Between the Buried and Me, Black Dahlia Murder, Animals As Leaders, Pantera, Cloudkicker, Cynic, Abigail Williams, Mastodon, HORSE the Band, Nile (and Karl Sanders), Necrophagist, The Faceless, Tool, Born of Osiris
also tons of not metal lol. (Pink Floyd, Sublime, The Mars Volta, T.R.A.M., Classical Music and Classic Rock, too lazy to keep listing.)
Also, out of curiosity, any Coheed and Cambria fans out there?
