New Arrivals [text] (Actually updating regularly this time, I swear to god)

CHAPTER ONE: YOU WAKE UP IN A ROOM

You wake up in a room. Wow. Such originality. Brilliant entry there, if you may say so yourself. Great, you can’t remember anything and you’re already criticising your entrance into conscious reality. Great, no memory too. This is going to be a fun little line of clichés. Ok, enough criticising your reality, time to get up, take a look around the alleged room.

Ok, plain bed, red sheets, nothing special there. You notice that the bed is still made, and still mostly un-creased, meaning you definitely hadn’t been on it for long. You take a look around the rest of the room, no windows, otherwise nothing too special. A desk, a chair for the desk, a bookshelf next to it also for the desk, and not much to do otherwise, not even a wardrobe or anything. Damn shame, because you were hoping to make your first act of known existence looking someone’s wardrobe. Maybe if you find a wardrobe, you can find a magic portal to another land. You also have absolutely no idea what the hell that was supposed to be a reference to. Wonderful memory there, knows enough to make references to things, doesn’t know enough to actually know the reference in question. Hang on, missed something, a mirror in the corner. Better go have a look at yourself.

You have light skin, lightly tanned, and medium length straight black hair. You have light brown eyes, a fairly normally sized nose, and an overall decent face. Congratulations, you have successfully looked yourself in the mirror and not wanted to break it. As for your clothes, you’re wearing a plain, solid light brown t-shirt, slightly loose but fitting you perfectly, and plain pants of the same colour, with boots of a slightly darker brown. Perfectly generic clothes. Which is what makes them special, they’re too generic. Where the hell do you get something so completely plain? You sure as hell wouldn’t have put them on.

And speaking of you, you realise that you don’t appear to have a name. You’d try to come up with one, but you don’t want to end up finding out your name and have gotten used to calling yourself by something else. Maybe you’ll come up with something later. But enough of that, you’re in some random room, with some random desk and random books, and a very inviting door.

    What do you do?

You inspect yourself and find that you are in fact a man. You would do further investigations, but you'd prefer to keep the room reasonably tidy.

Old one? You thought you'd just established the whole "No memory" thing in the first minute of your remembered existence. You had hoped to find out if you had one before you decided on one, but you might as well pick one now.

    What will be your name?

You vigorously inspect yourself to establish humanity. No part of you escapes your probing. You then realise that you've wasted about three minutes confirming the same fact three times. What now?

Sticking with Francisco for name suggestion. Meanwhile, open the desk and examine books/bookshelf

You decide that your name shall be Francisco De Goya, gentleman extraordinaire!
No wait, scratch that. You'll never be able to go out drinking with a name like that. And that's something you plan to do heavily once you get out of here. Better come up with some more options.

You go through the desk, although you don't find anything too interesting. A few sheets of paper with notes scribbled on them and some pens. Not even a diary to go through. You were incredibly disappointed when you found a flask inside, but found that only a few drops of moonshine remained inside.

After that, you go through the bookshelf. Most of them are large tomes, and when you flick through a couple of them they just have formulas and theories in them. One of them is has the name "Greater Alchemation theorum Volume 4" written on its first page. Apparently you're in a house of either an alchemist, or a really weird scientist.

On the other part of the bookshelf, you find a row of self help books. Most of them seem to be about self-confidence building, and ranged from team-leading to building proper smalltalk. A quick inspection of these shows that unlike the books on alchemy, these seem to be printed rather than handwritten, although the bindings are stitched together by hand.

Sticking out slightly, wedged between a couple of thick books, you find a thin pamphlet, entitled "Understanding Inventory Rings." You take it and stick it in your pocket. Might come in handy later.

    What do you do next?

Throw away that stupid instruction manual. We don't need a goddamn tutorial, I read the GameFAQs article on this game.

You stick your head under the bed to find a small trapdoor, and attempt to open it. The bed only has enough room to get under the bed, a tight fit on its own, and the trapdoor won't open enough to get under, so you scramble around to get a look into the place below.

From what you can make out, it appears to a small room, with nothing too distinct that you can make out with the low lighting. The trapdoor is made out of solid steel leading down a ladder and there isn't a door in there, so you guess this is some kind of panic room. A panic room that you can't get into without moving the bed first, but still. Emergency panic room. Everyone should have one of these.

You close the trapdoor as quietly as you can. You are now under a bed. What will you do?

With all of your righteous fury, you awkwardly reach into your pocket to take out the pamphlet and cast it away with all your might, banging your elbow as you do. It doesn't go very far. Also, by the sound it made when it hit the ground, it had something metal in it. But you have cast off the shackles of helpfulness, and you're going to stick with it, at least until you get out from under this bed.
You are still under a bed. What will you do?

Skim through those notes from earlier, and shake that book you just threw to see if something falls out.

Before that, get out from under the bed.

And then move the bed off the trap door.

You haul yourself out from under the bed, and go take another look through the notes on the desk. You don't really understand any of it. A lot of them are just half-drawn symbols and formulas, and a lot of the script isn't even written in something you can't understand. Unperturbed by the lack of progress, you go and pick up the booklet on inventories. YOu shake it, and a keyring falls out. You pick up the keyring and inspect it. It's a big bigger than a keyring you'd normally find, but not as big as those big old timey ones that jailers used in movies. You have absolutely no idea what you're supposed to do with it. You stash it in your pocket anyway. After a moment of hesitation, you take the cursed manual with you.

But more importantly, you want to go check out that awesome and pointless room under the bed. You move the bed as quietly as you can, and you're still wondering why the hell you'd put a panic room under the bed. You open the trapdoor and take a look inside. Apart from the very thick looking walls, there really isn't anything there. This is the worst panic room ever.

    What will you do?

Well, there is that ladder you saw earlier. But it's attached to the wall, and you wouldn't be able to get it out even if it wasn't.

You spend exactly one and a half minutes getting out from under the bookshelf. Then you decide that you need to get the hell out of this room before anyone notices the noise.

You come to a decision. It's time to emerge from this room and go boldly into the world. A choir of angel and orchestral tones surround you as you turn the knob and do what you probably should have done five minutes ago. The orchestra swells as the door swings open... And you're in a hallway with five other doors and nothing else. Great. As it turns out, the door has a deadbolt to lock it from the inside, and you flip that as you close the door. That should buy you enough time to skedaddle the hell out of here should you be discovered and they try to go to their bedroom.

There are five doors, two on each sides, and one at the end. What will you do?
