    Re: [CS2] Feuding Nations

"Shouldn't we-" Seamus Fitzwilliam began before being interrupted by James McHarvey

"No... No I'll think we'll wait a bit before we turn the King In The Forest into an international Celebration." James' countered.

"But we're doing so well in the war, people will expect a celebration before long."

"Yes well, I'd like to wait a bit until we have some nice, big, thick walls along the border with the Sultanate before we burn his mother in effigy and get ludicrously drunk and make scandalous songs and jokes at his expense involving the genitalia of farmyard animals." He said before continueing. Sides, this is the first Candlemas sicne the revolution I've been able to attend openly with my family," Seamus said.

The two sat in the private parliament bar in silence for a few more minutes, it was asurprisingly austre affair, most ministers came here to relax after a day's politicking.

"So... we're still going sending people to both of them then?" James asked, Seamus smiled.

"Of course, sure remember the last Allerzoberfest? I want to see how much trouble our diplomats can get us into..."

The End of the Gaelic Revolutionary Wars

Amidst the snow and death on the southern front, peace has finally been declared. The Sultan of Andrassia, facing bad news from a front, chose the path of peace rather than full commitment to total war. For the first time since its inception, the nation of An tAontas is secure, with no ongoing wars or struggles threatening their populace. Mass celebrations are taking place throughout the nation's many cities as the news reaches them; They beat the sultan! They defended their borders! They have secured their own place as a free and independent state of Triophia!

Elsewhere, in Verr, they also have much to celebrate. The city of Eus Vandalas is now firmly theirs, as it once was momentarily during the revolution. The Hyprenic Isles are also celebrating their new-found independence from Sultanate dominion. Allerzeit is celebrating their victory over Teslim aggression. But none of the celebrations can match those in the Gaelic cities of the south, where the hard-won peace comes as a relief and a triumph.

    The Netelexian Acquisition

The wave of peacemaking seems to have washed over the Palaver Kingdom and the Sultanate of Astravassia, too, with considerably less territorial changes than some were predicting. Although a few people are calling this sudden end to the war a rapid Palaver reaction to potential intervention from Andarassia, others have proposed that the main gains Palaver acquired from this war may not be territorial.

    Re: [CS2] Feuding Nations

Taken by force but they kept it with pride
And now we can't breathe in the world they describe
Where silence is golden, resistance is numb
We scream our hope straight into the sun

Broken is the world they refuse to see
We won't bow down to a word remembered as liberty
They are preaching on now their time is yet to come
How long before we can make them undone?

    CHORUS:
    In the name of believing
In the name of us all
We sing to tell you the stories untold
    Can you hear our mourning?
    They've taken our rights
Don't let the truth out of your sight

Deceiving appearance, they're dressed up as gods
Fake that they care, their conscience is lost
Denial their craft, and riots our goal
They lead those who follow and break those who fall

A future blackened by a change of heart
They'll try to fool us that they will greet us with open arms
A promise as empty as when we were sent astray
Our blood on the pen they used to sign our lives away

    CHORUS

Honesty replaced by greed, they gave us the reason to fight and bleed
They try to torch our faith and hope, spit at our presence and detest our goals

They are preaching on how their time is yet to come
How long before we make them undone?

    Most Serene Bouchard Trade Company

The Bouchard Company wishes to remind the nations of the former Old Kingdom that it still exists. With the war (mostly) over, we seek to restart regional commerce, especially trade between nations.

We are currently in negotiations over potential joint venture operations. We invite the nations of Palaver, Salsteingard, Daridan, Allerzeit and the Hyprenic Isles to a Conference on regional trade. As long as all nations respect the rights of commerce and free enterprise, the Bouchard Company welcomes goods and services from all nations big and small.

The world is relatively quiet. Blasts and shots echo from the northern battlefield, but the south now cries out in celebration, rather than death. Maybe peace may yet be found.

    Re: [CS2] Feuding Nations

    CANDLEMAS IS COMMENCING

At newly renovated St. Martin's Cathedral, Zublin.

The dignitaries and their entourages invited to the great feast in An tAontas' capital have congregated for the Mass, snow was already coating the steps and cobblestones of the great park in the city that the Cathedral dominated, with seat of government itself on the far end. During the revolution the cathedral had been shut down and neglected, now however things where different.

As the various carriages and honor guards deposited their charges on the step of the Cathedral, it was clear for all to see that the Classical Church was coming back to the Gaelic lands with a vengeance with great favour with the people, it was clear that the old state Atheist policies of the regime could not possibly hold up for too long had measure not been taken. The Cathedral was decked to great expense in the festive red and green colours of candlemas, holly and red bunton with gold thread arching the pillars, wreathes and flowers decorating the statues and icons of saints which themselves had been restored to shining beauty. And of course the Candles. There were very few of them actually lit at this point as was candlemas tradition ancient Gaelireigh custom. It was thought a high attention to detail and tradition would be important.

And just as well, for His Holiness, the Archbishop Ascendant Alexander XII, arriving in a white carriage, was also in attendance. Taking the traditional place of honour, the Bishop's throne near the Altar for the duration of the Mass.

As the guests of honour, with their candles, took their seats in the pews, carefully arranged by organizers with oversight by political agents of the state, it would not do to have the Tivesran Contingent be seated beside the Wrinnish afterall. Or even in the same side of the Cathedral. At one point it was postulated to organize separate Masses in one of the lesser cathedrals in the cities, but stronger voices won that argument. Another problem would be the Allerzeitans, not that they do not know how to behave, but it led to an odd confused rush in the run up to the celebration organizing the pew positions to separate the Allerzeitians from the other dignitaries from the various nations Allerzeit divided Vaestgard into and them from the Tivesrans, their political feelings where not well known to the State of An tAontas, so they opted to limit the damage by placing them bloody anywhere and everywhere in the cathedral. And of course the layout of the Verran, Palavarn, Daridese and Gaelic contingents, by the end of it the left side had the Tivesran contingent in front, the Daridese behind it, the Allerzeitians behind that, the Palavarn at the back of the right side, the Verr in front of them and the Wrinnish in front of them. The Gaelic contingent, however, took up the wings of the Cathedral, an ambiguous enough position that anyone trying to tease out any implicit insult in the placing of contingents wouldnt be able to figure out what An tAontas was trying to say. An anal retentive detail by some of the more paranoid political agents who, unfortunately, had the louder voices in that arguement. It was easily the hardest part to organize about the Mass, the feast that would follow it would be much harder to police, in that it simply couldnt be.

The mass began as the candles that had been lit being slowly blown out until the entire cathedral was in darkness. As the procession of the priest and Altar Servants carrying candles, lighting the candles of the closest person to the aisle who lit the one next to them, slowly bathing the entire Cathedral in a blaze of flickering light from the many candles. The priest took to the altar and began an Ascended High Mass.

The Mass continued and before the main sacrifice he turned to give the Homily.

"Brothers and Sisters" The Priest began, incense filling the air

"We are gathered here to celebrate, but also to mourn. Celebrating in the coming to a close of the great southern wars that have wracked An tAontas and our neighbors, to celebrate the repelling of the Teslim hordes from the borders of the great southern mountain and saving Triophia from their aggression... And the great courage of the nations who joined us in our struggle, the Verran, The Allerzeitians and of course... the Daridese, who aided us so much in the struggle.

"We have come to celebrate also, the end of the darkness that infected the leaders of our great state who had turned away from the faith and did violence upon sacred mother Church, but who have since repented and returned to the flock, but also to mourn that it happened.

"We also mourn the great many casualties and suffering the families of the south have suffered, both in the gaining of Gaelic independence from the Old Kingdom, and the unnecessary fighting with our friends the Verr, the dead and suffering of the Aregese whose great people, stalwart and proud in the midst of the tyranny of the infamous Bandit King of Aregoi, the continued and unending denouncement of unjust rule legendary among nations, and of course the great many casualties suffered in the great war with Andarassia, we offer up our prayers even for the heathen souls of the Andarassians, the Brave souls of the Gaels and Verrans who lost their lives and of the Daridese who lost so many in the great and noteworthy aid they loaned to the cause of saving Triophia, their entirely selfless and obvious endeavor worthy of praise and we remember the great plight of woodrot, doubtlessly a sabotage by the great enemy, which stalled their armies. We pray that God should never let such bad fortune fall upon us in times of dire need for the faith again.

"We pray to God that neither the schemes of men nor the traps of devils shall ensnare us in their evil and cause us to sin and be damned. We also pray that the violence in the far north ends in peace, so that the honest, God fearing peoples of those lands may live in peace and that their suffering lessened. Oh Lord God almighty, Heavenly Father, creator of all things visible and invisible, we ask you your blessing this Candlemas and your peace."

And with that, the priest, Father Fitzgerald continued with the remainder of the Mass.

Afterwards, the dignitaries and their entourages made their way into the King Phillippe IV's Hall, a grand building with a large buffet and a Gaelic orchestra playing soft music as flower petals were being dropped slowly from above by servants. The rest of the night was dedicated to dancing, eating and socializing, it was afterall, a celebration.

Armand Guerrard, the representative from Tivesra, was a man of average height with graying dirty blond hair and hazel eyes. His hair was long and neatly-combed back for the occasion. He was clean-shaven, and possessed a strong jaw and athletic build. He wore a white cotton shirt, a fine black tailcoat, a pair of black dress pants, and matching black leather dress shoes. He topped it off with a top hat and a cane, though unlike Minister Corvaisier, he carried it more for fashion's sake than for balance.

He had taken to walking around the party, mingling after introducing himself to the various guests. There were a lot of new faces present, and a lot of new names to remember. The Gaels had, however, put on a good show. The extravagance was quite impressive, and the guest list was equally so.

    Re: [CS2] Feuding Nations

Susa Johanan nervously walked around the room. It wasn't the dislike that the regular Gael servers threw at him that made him so uncomfortable, it was the mocking glances of the nobility that saw the Kingdom of Daridan had only sent a boy to take the fall. He had of course expected the issue of the treaty to come up, his superiors had mentioned as much, though even he was surprised that it would be forced into the service in such a conniving way instead of approaching him directly with their accusations.

He took a sip from a glass of some Tivesran wine, he didn't know the name, and held a parcel tightly in his hand. After he finished, he put the glass down and began looking around for... someone, by the obvious way in which he acknowledged the various diplomats but pardoned himself from conversations early.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Princess Octavienne, on the other hand, proved a much more eloquent conversationalist, smoothly moving throughout the crowds and interchanging pleasantries and information regarding the state of affairs across the continent. While her father was likely to be so mad, she had felt that Candlemas was an important enough event that she should attend it with the Verran ambassadors instead of heading home after her visit was complete, going so far as to sit with them during the ceremony. Of course, very few people knew of her true identity, barring the handful of Verrans who already knew who she was and the guards that attended the celebration with her, servng as both an entertaining pastime and a acceptable safety measure until she was ready to meet with the Daridese ambassadors. She noticeably (to her entourage at least) cringed when the comments against Daridan were made - while her king may or may not have made a severe error in judgement a holy mass was no place to bring up childish taunts, and a holy father should be above such antics.

Regardless, she wasn't here to discuss the issue, the strangely small group sent by her father was doubtlessly sent to do that if necessary. Instead she limited herself to enjoying the festivities and meeting the varied guests.

    Re: [CS2] Feuding Nations

Seamus Fitzwilliam decided to give the Daridese contingent and the hapless young man the Kingdom had sent to be the fall man a wide berth after the Mass. The state already had their fun with embarassing Daridan it would have been churlish to continue the berating during the feast itself, his own son, Declan, finally able to come out of hiding now that ar An Ceannaire was... incapacitated, was chatting jovially with some Allerzeitians, he hoped he found the company good because he was doomed to go to the next Allerzoberfest to continue good relations. He almost pitied him, but he knew he'd be in good hand with their ambassador to the communist nation. At least he'd be smart enough to keep the young man out of serious harm with the infamous running of the bears at least.

His real interest was in the Tivesran and Wrinnish diplomats and ensuring through subtle cues given to staff to keep the diplomats generally on opposite sides of the buffet from eachother at all times to ensure nothing... ontoward occured. Despite the lamblasting at mass tonight really was intended to be a good, peaceful get-together.

Until James McHarvey, the minister of interior came up to him with another glass of wine and whispered into his ear.
"The King's Daughter is here. She's right there, talking to the Verrans."
"The Princess of Wrin?" Seamus asked, turning his eyes towards the Verrans.
"Daridan," James said, with a finality. "King Gale's daughter snuck in with the diplomatic corps, she's not on the registry and my agents tell me the foreign ministry of Daridan doesn't know she is here. If anything happens..."
Seamus' jaw clenched, "Double the guard, its bad enough Palavar sent their head of damn state here but now we have to make sure nothing happens to the princess or the entire south will erupt in flames before the first spring thaw." He downed the glass of wine and went to grab something from the table. The chances of anything bad happening were ridiculously remote, but still, he had to play dumb if the Daridese state department decided to come around for tea and ask questions but still be cautious enough to make sure nothing could've happened if she had arrived.

"Women." Seamus said under his breath.

St. Martin's Cathedral was famous - not surprising considering its historical and cultural value in this place of An tAnotas and this portion of the world. This religious sanctuary had a lot of admirable qualities - its beauty, its religious significance, and lots of lots of windows.

In one of the windows, there was a strange noise that nearly melted away in the din of the crowd. It sounded...jiggly as though there was a rod of metal rattling in a small hole, perhaps a lock. It was a jiggly, a jiggly that soon ended with an audible click of a mechanism.

The window creaked swung open - nearly hitting a surprised old lady in a face - and a body unceremoniously plopped down on the church floor with an undramatic unf. It was a man - an alive one that is. A prematurely grey man in some somber sort of dress military uniform. He was also wearing a cape - delicately embossed with some sort of feline motif.

    It was almost Palaverian.

The man cough awkwardly, readjusted his cap, and plopped down on the corner of the pew as though his alternative and possibly incredibly impolite entry into the most sacred place of An tAontas totally did not happened.

    Re: [CS2] Feuding Nations

Representing the celebration for Verr, the two Verren diplomats sipped wine, speaking to the Daridese and generally trying to be civil as possible. They were two young men in their early twenties, members of the Department of Cultural Relations, and both were clearly suited for their job. One, tall and with jet black hair that went down to his shoulders, made a sharp visual contrast to the other, who was small in stature yet average of build. Both were outfitted in fashionable formal attire, with the exception of the hats they wore on their heads: black variants of the Pentacornes which were said to have been added to their nation's military uniform.

"Yes, the Chief Councilor was quite insistent that our hats have tassels," the taller one, who had introduced himself as Alfred Leius, said casually, "Luckily, his son, the head of our department, managed to convince him otherwise. Remember how long we stood outside that office while they argued about that, Jack? Seemed like ages."

He laughed. His associate, Jack Smith, nodded in acknowledgement. "Indeed. The Chief Councilor is a man who takes his headwear seriously."

"And his cigars." Alfred added, taking a sip from the wine glass he held in his hand, "Remember when that nation which Allerzeit was at war with appealed to us for help? I believe he sent them the cheapest cigars he could find. Declared it, 'Verren Aid.' Mind, as tAontas can attest, we do aid those who we actually believe to be Brothers in Revolution, but for a foreign kingdom to simply assume we'd attack a fellow Triophian nation because they asked nicely? That was simply ridiculous."

Jack, who, while polite, didn't seem to be completely engaged in the conversation, idly watched the crowd. He noticed the Daridese "diplomat" navigating through the crowd.

"Alfred? I think I require a new glass of wine. This one tastes awful. Though I do appreciate the hospitality of our tAontan brothers, I fear they have much to learn about picking proper vintages. If you'll excuse me..."

Removing his hat with his free hand, Jack smoothly slipped away from the group and began quietly making his way through the crowd. Occasionally, the boy would turn to look in his direction, as if looking for someone. Jack would simply step into a nearby group and blend amongst the crowd.

    Re: [CS2] Feuding Nations

Susa was starting to get more then a little freaked out. The first three or four times he saw the short man (who, judging by his attire was either very very important or a spy, neither of which Mr. Johanan would want to deal with) he passed it off as nothing. It was some time after he actually started counting how many times the man disappeared after following him only to reappear a few minutes later that he started to wonder if something was up. This was a sacred day though, a day of festivities and peace... surely they wouldn't be so open about it?

Or maybe that's what they want him to think.

These deliberations did little to calm the young man, and he ducked behind a rather impressively large sculpture to try and lose his tail for a few minutes so as to catch his bearings. He stared back at his parcel as if reaffirming that he still had it. He thought about maybe taking a peek at its contents, but decided against it. You never know who's watching after all, right?

Susa looked to his left and saw yet another table filled with various wines and glasses. He downed one in an instant - his sixth since the festivities began, and probably not his last unless he managed to figure out where the guy he was looking for was. He sighed.

"You wouldn't think official types would be so hard to find..."

    "Who are you looking for?"

Susa nearly jumped at the voice, some girl even younger then him was sipping a glass of Tivesran white immediately next to him.

    "N-none of your business!"

Who the hell was this woman? He didn't know, but she was standing way too close and it was bothering him.

"You know, I'm sure if you asked around you'd find whoever you're looking for much easier."

"I uh..." Susa scratched his head. "I guess, but this is kind of a private matter and I'd rather keep as few people involved as possible.|

The girl just raised an eyebrow. "Well, good luck then. If you're looking for diplomats you can find them grouped together with their countrymen for the most part, unless you're looking for a Gael. They're running all over trying to keep things in place... I hear the Pseudo-King of Palaver is here and causing a small panic."

"Th...thanks I guess? Yeah I'll just go now, you know, always in a rush hahaha!"

Susa took the chance to awkwardly leave the conversation to continue his quest (and secretly to take the girl's advice but he'd never say it to her face). Thank the Lord he'd probably never see her again.

As he left, Octavienne let out a deep sigh. Of all the people, his father decided to send this man on some sort of vital delivery? Or was this something else entirely? She decided to not think any further of it, she had hoped to maybe help the nervous diplomat out and maybe calm him down, but now realized it was maybe a task beyond her at the moment.

After all, the An tAontan government had already figured out who she was, or at the very least that she wasn't a Verran diplomat. She bumped into one of the two soldiers who had been watching her last few exchanges, apologized in an awful West Verran drawl she had heard during her visit, and moved on while watching the two question whether or not they had accidentally started watching some northerner's daughter instead of a princess.
