It does seem that now we finally have confirmation that the same set of players appeared at different points on the two timelines, Dad is pretty unlikely to be genetically related to any of them since he seems to be about the same age at about the same point in both timelines.

So he really could just be this everyday gritty man who tends to adopt ectobabbies and become very proud of them.
