    PI DAY 2013

Well, it's that time of year again. Tell us all about your celebrations for this mathematical holiday. As in:

    1) What kind of pie are you eating?
    2) How many digits of pi did you recite?
    3) Anything else?

For those who do not know about this wonderful holiday, information is under the spoiler.

    Re: PI DAY 2012

Good day, best info spoiler. I was about to say something like "Tau shalt celebrate transcendentals on 28 June.", but the mock turned to in an instant when I clicked on that spoiler.

The clock has not yet tolled midnight here yet, so I will list the pre-pi-ratory actions I have taken this week:
    1. Consumed 10 slices of pi-zza.
    2. To be observed tomorrow (it'll be somewhere between 50 and 100. I may be insane, but where I stop is always rational.)
    3. Gave a talk in my Harmonic Analysis class. There wasn't any direct mention of π, but the subject built around sines and cosines, which are definitely tied to π.
    I have spoilers now?
    What's up with that?

    ...

Now I need to find a store which sells pie at 11 pm (or, 6 am tomorrow).

I've only got 7 digits--close 'nough for most purposes, and th' AIME stuff is all integers, anyway.

    Re: PI DAY 2012

I did some Pi-rating. There are approximately zero youtube videos that I did not rate as 3.14. I also spent the day being horribly irrational.

I also made horrible pi puns. Oh god.

    Twenty digits.

I forgot about the pie. String-cheese lattice over a bowl of broccoli it shall be!

    Re: PI DAY 2012

I can get all the way up to 158 digits without too much trouble.

Pi day is a simple mental celebration. Interestingly, not much else happens. Not even as a "maths day" of any sort, which would be held after exams.

    1. Apple. Pretty basic.

    2. 50 digits.

3a. At 6:28 PM (lol tau) MIT is sending decisions. I'm really fucking nervous.
3b. Your spoiler needs more digits.

    Re: PI DAY 2012

Figured I'd take advantage of the day to point out this song from the Cowboy Bebop soundtracks:

The digits start at ~48 seconds, and I usually can go something like 5 digits past where Ed stops in this song (not counting the silent 'oh' near the end).
    I have spoilers now?

    Re: PI DAY 2012

I've always preferred e on a personal scale, but considering there is no 71st of february, I'll just have to cram the mathematical celebration into one day. That's why I pring attention to the greatest mathematical formula in the entirety of everything: Eueler's Theorem. This theorem states that e^ix = cos(x) + isin(x). Substituting x with π, we get e^iπ = -1. Combine two important mathematical constants and a number that shouldn't exist and you get back to 1. Math is wizardry.

    Re: PI DAY 2012

I made a pear pie. I sort if smashed it together from 3 different recipes. I want to say 3.14 different recipes but I can't...Because that would be lying. And lying is bad.

I just sat here looking at the thread title and wondering what Pickle Inspector day involves.

I spend too much time MSPA-ing.

Wait there was a thread for this?!

Anyways, I ate some chicken pot pie yesterday. Other than that, nobody else that I talked to really cared enough to fondly regard Pi day.

    Re: PI DAY 2012

Okay, so for item 3 things that I actually did on 14 March:
I wore my Get Real / Be Rational shirt (where π tells √-1 to get real, and √-1 tells π to be rational)
I wrote 'Happy pi day!' on the board in each of the classes I taught. And left it on the board for the next class that my officemate teaches, in one instance.
I also wrote the first however many digits of pi for said officemate on same board: 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375 1058209749445... however many that is (61 after the radix point).
Oh, wait, that one is actually more of an item 2 thing.

    3. After we finished state testing, my teacher, instead of letting us play Seven-Up, made us construct a pie chart (otherwise known as a circle graph) about people's favorite pies. Then we did a worksheet that had us figure out the area and circumference of a circle (using pi of course).

Well, according to that image, I'd be in none of those categories, as the last one only goes out to 31 or so digits.

Okay, that probably puts me in that last one.
