I've become so used to Homestuck that when I try looking at one page from a different webcomic, I actually don't like the art style.

And I don't really have enough time to read something different either way.

So...I'm sticking with Homestuck.

So I decided to look up Romantically Apocalyptic yesterday.

It's actually quite funny. The art is also omgwtf super good (I'm not altogether certain the creator doesn't dress up in costumes with his friends and take photos to photoshop). Not at all what I was expecting.

Hussie, on the other hand, is simply going to give the money away.

Homestuck is wonderful, but if it wins, there will be no change in Hussie's life. On the other hand, if GC wins, you will be helping an artist fulfill his dream.

Does Tom sell any GC products? People could easily donate money that way, and if only a few people did it that would already be more money than the main prize of this contest!

Also, I know he might need the money, but I'd rather behold this contest as something that determines what you think is the best webcomic out there.

And that would be Homestuck to me, and not Gunnerkrigg Court as I've not read it.

And by getting THIS far into the contest, loads of new people have discovered GC, which has given him more popularity and more people buying his merchandise --> more than the prize of the contest.

I'm nobody to stop you or anyone of course from voting for GC, but this is what stops ME personally from voting for GC.

That's what I suggested, figuring the $75 is going to go to one of them, if MSPA wins he could just send the money to Tom and it'd be the same as if GKC won, aside from Tom being able to say that he won a silly online poll, which isn't going to amount to much a few weeks from now anyway.

But, screw it. If MSPA wins, and Andrew doesn't send him the money, I will.

There, now there's no more need to talk about who needs money. Vote for who you like better.

I think it's more about the prospective customers than the prize dollars. It seems to me pretty likely that there will be more people who go check out whichever comic wins, or even the one that gets 2nd place, than will check out the comics that got knocked out in the semi-finals.

Plus, Gunnerkrigg really is quite good. I'd certainly more readily recommend Gunnerkrigg over Homestuck.

At this point, the returns on new viewers is dwindling rapidly as the votes are not spiking up past what they already were a round or two ago, so anyone who would've seen it in the spotlight probably has done so already. Heck, GKC even gets far more traffic than Comic Mix does even taking this tournament into account, the site isn't THAT big. Hussie plugging it every so often on tumblr will probably get exponentially more visitors than any number of Comic Mix pings.

If you like GKC better, that's fine, go vote for it all you want. I just feel like this whole idea of "We've got to help Tom!" is a little bit misguided at this point. If you want to help Tom, put off buying Universe B for another paycheck or pass on sodas for a few days and send him those few bucks. I know not everyone's rolling in cash, but it really doesn't take more than a few dollars from thousands of people to ACTUALLY put food on his plate or drawing materials in his hands for a few months, whereas a measly $75 and a few extra website hits are going to go pretty quickly.

Don't get me wrong. Homestuck is great. It's netted me tons of friends and going through the gears of fandom has probably made me a better person overall. Some of the characters are really excellent, Andrew's jokes are sometimes really funny, and symbolism is abound.

But it's no City Face.

Y'know, the more I think about it, don't see why we can't just ask Hussie to donate his winnings to Tom, since he suggested supporting him in the first place.

Although I'm sure the money would help, I think the real help from one of these things comes from the publicity. Which, although GC has surely gotten a bunch of just by reaching this stage of the competition, comes in large amounts from winning.
