Roles don't matter much re: Court compared to having active, good scumhunters on it (and obviously having them be town but 4 picks combined w/ queen & duke make a 0-witch Court generally a dream).

Also we're not turning this into a "hey what do you think about this aspect of the rules" scumhunting style game so help me god

Wait I'm confused guys:

In games featuring the King and his Court, no one is lynched the first Day. Instead, players may use this time to "campaign" and argue why they would (or wouldn't) be a wise choice for the anonymous King to select. Dare the Witches try to sneak onto the court and manipulate it?

Am I looking at the wrong set of rules, straight up missing something or is everyone using Lynch votes to troll?

Nope! Let me enumerate a full list of game changes...

• No lynch/kill is now a mechanically supported (official) group target (including Judge/Leeroy)
• Dawn and Dusk no longer exist in the game in any form.
• Lynching (including Judge/Leeroy) and Twilight Pagan power are allowed Day 1 in spite of a King.
• REMOVED ROLE: Jester
• NEW ROLE: Fanatic - You gain an extra life whenever the Priest checks you. (No limit; you will be informed)
• CHANGED ROLE: Vigilante - Once members of your team die to a lynch three times, you may kill a target the following Night. (Only announced if alive)
• CHANGED ROLE: Thief - The first Night at least half the players are dead, you may attempt to steal an extra life from a target and give it to another target. (One time only)
• CHANGED ROLE: Queen - You are automatically part of the King's Court. After the King selects his Court, you will be informed whether it has an odd or even number of Witches.
• CHANGED ROLE: Gambler and Recluse no longer appear to be in the Coven on off-Nights
• CHANGED ROLE: Wizard triggers at 10 or fewer players, not 8.

All Day 1 King protectionist stuff is gone. If you screw up and manage to kill your King before the Court gets made, that's just on you.

(Witch Leeroy wants the King to claim D1, BTW. For the lulz.)

The Gambler and Recluse false checks were a reactionary design to things that no longer exist. We don't have a crazy Bishop that can activate on Night 2 in small games, and now we've got a whole litter of Junior Witches throwing false checks left and right. There wasn't much gameplay attached to these "abilities" ("I'm not a Witch, I'm the Recluse" was never actually that exciting...) and it contributed to the Priest's swinginess--if modern WH can live without it, I'm more than happy to move away from them.

Old Vigilante and Jester were the most complex roles in the game; they were "worth it" by old standards, but those standards are constantly rising. New Vigilante is a simplified, similar role that is better fit for large games. It's also way more fun for Witches to play. (Old Vig was one of the more lame Witch roles.) Jester on the other hand was a really fun Witch role, but an awful Villager role gameplay-wise. The rules text was also, by nature, potentially ambiguous. While Vig can be reborn as a similar role, Jester is out.

...and Fanatic is in! Fanatic is just a really cool, simple defensive role that plays interestingly for both sides. (Yes, the Priest truly is a bottomless well of gameplay.)

No Vigilante and Jester (new Vig is a night kill) means we have no reason to keep Dawn and Dusk around. Adios!

Thief gets to gift his extra life, which makes Thief a less dubious villager role.

Wizard activates sooner to be a tad more relevant. 10 just seems way more of a tangible goal than 8, without being significantly more powerful.

And finally, major Villager Queen nerf. A certain "0" result was just too game-dominatingly powerful in an overwhelming, bad way. Getting an all-Villager Court is its own reward and a half; no need to go and town-confirm 5 people to the Queen.

We should totally make life easier for King by "auditioning" for Court for the first part of the day. (id say 24-36 hours?) - but then we should spend the rest of the alotted time finding someone to lynch. People (ie, scum) putting their necks on the line in order to get Court should provide ample opportunities for scumslipping.

As such, i would like everyone to consider the following questions:

1) Why are you a good candidate for the Court?
2) What are the qualities that a King should look for in a Court member?
*3) Who would you recommend for the Court?

*4) Who would you most certainly not ant to be in court?

And here i answer my own Question One:

I think i would be a good candidate for the Court because:

1) I post a lot and am generally active at virtually all hours.
2) I like to think i'm good at scumhunting (although, im not so good at rolehunting).
3) I know almost everyone in the game right now, having been in, or currently being in at least one game with virtually everyone.
4) I tend to be really good with "Mason" roles in which i have a partner to chat to, and bounce ideas off. Not only do i use the role to its fullest (by nakking up a storm), but the role itself also strengthens my play as i am more liable to think things through and post them in my QT and bounce ideas off my Mason before posting them in topic, perhaps pointing out things that would otherwise have been -EV to point out or may otherwise have been missed, or glaring inconsistensies or mistakes i may have made in my reads pointed out to me.
5) I played in both previous WHs and was a witch in both - Coven in the first game and JW in the second. Whilst the second admittedly didnt finish, i was putting the JWs in a fantastic position, and in the first one i was part of a Coven that virtually whitewashed the game. I know how they work. I know what they do. I have been in their shoes and can spot them all the easier for it.
6) I put a lot of time and effort into mafias! (almost too much...)
7) Easter Holidays this weekend! Will have plenty of spare time during them.

Why should I be on the court:

META RAISINS THAT COUNT FOR A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN NOTHING: I tend to not really strike people as particularily town or scum; as such, scum usually don't kill me (either that or I'm just not town very often, though I remember being town a good number of times. On the other hand, having someone who's a bit of a wild card isn't exactly the best choice for court; honestly, all up to you, King.

I'm active. Self employed, and lots of time to randomly f5 mafia threads/QT's while working. I'm a naturally suspicious dude, and have a tendency to latch onto people like a dog does a bone, until I'm satisfied of their Townitude. Or they are dead. Y'know, whichever. I freely admit that I'm not the most experienced player, but I'm in several ongoing games at the moment, and I do have a firm grasp on the rules. So that's a thing. I'm not a Prime or Sotek type big name, so there's a fair shot that I could live until endgame in a 0 scum court. It's unlikely, sure, but it's worth considering that the stronger names are going to be Prime NK bait. Heh.

2) What are the qualities that a King should look for in a Court member?
Seems obvious enough. Active, intelligent, solid town read. Probably don't want an entire court of the most likely NK bait, either, but it's an option to just try and blitz the scum down with the best players possible.

Besides myself, I like Tea well enough right now. No real issues with Sotek either, I suppose, but he's worth watching.

Mostly gut read on Sotek, but Tea seems earnest and Town. It's a thing that can be projected, but the earnestness is harder to do so.

Dangerous assumption. I'm not the best candidate for the court, nor am I the worst.

First and Foremost, a townread. As a caveat, see if another of your townreads has the same read on the person; relying solely on your own judgement is a recipe for disaster (unless Acio is the king.)

Secondly, don't pick heavily suspicious people. If they are under severe pressure, they're probably not the best option for the court.

Thirdly, PICK ACIO.

Fourthly, pick at least 2, but preferably 3, fairly active people.

Fifthly, if someone says they don't want to join the court, it's a horrendous idea to pick them to join the court.

Sixthly, and importantly: Aside from Acionyx, do NOT allow anyone on the court based solely on meta.

*3) Who would you recommend for the Court?

Acio due to Meta; activity level from him is encouraging as well, along with serious demeanor.

NOT Tea; I'm seeing some signs of scum/hiding tea (over-eagerness, high activity with low content.)

Prime is still an enigma; don't touch him. DO NOT LET HIM IN ON REPUTATION ALONE.

Sotek hasn't done enough for me to establish a read on him yet; I'll evaluate later.
