    MSPA 3rd Anniversary Gift Exchange!

    SIGN UP IS CLOSED

Hey there, forums! There was something of a failed one at Christmas because the host had some issues, but the idea here is for this to be a physical gift exchange and let everybody get some extra Homestuck swag by the 3rd anniversary. If you're going to a meetup then, you can even show off your new swag. :3

If you don't feel comfortable giving me your address, there's another option for you--you can just give a name and a zip code! It doesn't even have to give your own zip code, just that of a post office you don't mind going to. The post office whose zip code you designated will hold the package for free for 15 days or so, I believe. You can check it out, and other services from the USPS, here. This one is under "Hold For Pickup."

Send me a PM if you're interested in participating! Sample form below.
Alternately, shoot me an email at giveandget.MSPA@gmail.com.

What I need to know (a sample form):

Acceptable gifts (a general list that is by no means complete):

Don't ask for too much or feel obligated to spend too much--a hoodie, for instance, might be kind of expensive for many people. I know it certainly would be for me. Just have fun with it!

TENTATIVE DEADLINE FOR SIGNUP: 3/15. I want to give people plenty of time to make and send out their gifts!
We're shooting to get everybody their gifts by 4/13.

Current list of Participants (Gathered from MSPAF, Tumblr, IRL):

    Feel free to ask questions.

And I guess the tumblr version is here if you want to see it there instead or spread the word.

I might get in on this. Depending on if the local bookstore still has an ancient coding book, I would do a ~ATH prop.

Ooh. Very cool. :3 Well, you've got a nice couple of weeks to decide for sure if you want in. No rush here~

I would love to sign up, as I've wanted a pair of Bro shades ever since I saw them on Squirtle at like, age 5. I can't sign up though, because I have no artistic talent.

Well, there's always official merchandise, if you have the money. Or you can just be creative--I didn't know how to make a plushie a few months ago before up and deciding I wanted one, and I'd never sewn before making my godtier Vriska outfit. Hell, even my horns were something I just attacked head on. Spend the next two weeks developing some kind of talent, then sign up last minute right before the deadline, if you want. ^^

Remember to have more than one suggestion for what you'd like if you do sign up though--if we have ten requests for shades and only two people who can make em, it'd be a very sad day.

Oh dear. XD Well, if there's a change or addition you want to make, just PM me in the future. And just a note for future posting in the forums, try not to double post, 'kay?

Well, that can be accounted for by making your gift ahead of time, and telling me what it is in a PM/showing me a picture. Then I can match you up with someone who wants something like that and have you send it out basically the day I assign everybody, or maaaybe even earlier. There's already a pretty broad range of what people will take as gifts. I'll have to think of a solution for getting your gift to you on time, though. If that doesn't bother you, feel free to sign up.

I don't think it's too much of a tragedy if things don't get everywhere on time, just a little unfortunate. I'd feel guilty if the gift I gave arrived late, but I wouldn't be particularly beaten up if the one I received came in a week or two late. Does anybody feel more strongly about this?

I'll probably just make some clay horns or something, Iunno. Maybe I'll try a Gamzee but those don't look like they'll hold up very well.

Horns are acceptable too, for those who can make them--and at least a couple people are interested in them. Try not to get too set on making a specific type yet though, until we know what kinds are wanted. :3

Meep, not even with the post office option? Well, if so, I know you're not alone in this. Someone I know IRL can probably only participate because I told them to just put down my address. Good luck on the rents, and remember that if they do let up, you've got till the 15th~

Ohhhh man this looks so sweet but my mom might not be 0k with me spending that money but wait!!! I'm ordering a Sufferer necklace when they restock (which I hope is soon) as well as a print or two so I might be able to get Topatoco and Whatpumpkin stuff??? I'm not sure about shipping, though (especially international)! That's a little bit scary. I'll need to do a little bit of research about shipping costs before I get a definite answer. Still gonna watch this thread and see where this goes. Very interesting idea you got there, AC!

Also I'm curious, what service would you prefer or does it matter? I just want to make sure I'm looking for costs at the right site.

It doesn't matter to me, and I'd say whatever is cheapest is probably best, as long as it gets there roughly on time? However, you have a neat option if you're ordering from Topatoco or What pumpkin - you can ship it directly to them instead of you from the site, which is probably the cheapest option.

Re: MSPA 3rd Anniversary Gift Exchange!

Hey guys. Double post, but some tidbits and important information on shipping and prices, especially for you guys shipping overseas. This mostly applies to people shipping from America, though, because I do not know how systems and pricing works for things that are not USPS.

First off, you can use this here to calculate price:
    http://postcalc.usps.gov/
Don't forget the flat rate envelopes and boxes. As long as you can fit it in and it is within the weight limit, you can use one. I believe there's some charges for out of country shipping, but it's much cheaper with one of those much of the time - sometimes 30 or more bucks cheaper.
What ever you do, if you're sending a box, try to fit it in the smallest box you can. Weight isn't the only thing they charge for. If you were to send a headband with screw on horns for example, unscrew and dismantle it and squeeze it in something smaller. Tis cheaper that way.
I'll probably put that all in the header soon.

Those of you who are shipping overseas and such, expect to get your assignments either later today or tomorrow! Also, I made a little signature button if anybody wants to use it. Feel free to make your own, too.

Don't forget - if you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me. :3

One more week until sign up is closed!

A few assignments were given out last night, so those of you who are doing overseas shipping should have gotten yours. There's only a couple more days to sign up, so hurry along if you want to join.
