    Jack sighs.

"Alright, alright. Just... Don't blame me if your mother sent ya an embarrassing sweater or something. Here, have at it. Catch."

Jack tosses the box to Varen.

"Now, where did I leave my smokes..."

He reaches into his jacket, acting as if scrambling around in a pocket for a box of cigarettes...

Mike glances at Maxwell. "Prince? Of what? England? Sweden? I haven't heard much news lately, obviously." He casts an arm around the room. "What makes you think we can catch someone for you, though? I mean, the two of us are pretty unimportant, civilians and all that." He's rather hoping that she wasn't paying attention downstairs.

    (1) - You miss. Horribly. The box hits the floor with a thud.

You hear a voice in your head. Not a normal voice: this is one of those voices with the built-in re-verb. Imagine fingernails on a chalkboard, except it's the exact opposite pitch.

    PICK IT UP. OPEN IT.

"Some people call him the Prince of Heart. It's just a name, really, but from what Rei tells me he has it out for Crocker. And really I think you can find him just because there's no reason you can't. People like him tend to be good at avoiding official business."

Mike sticks his thumbs in his jacket pocket, hissing a breath through his teeth. "Well, I suppose I can help find this guy for you, depending on what you want with him. Maxwell? What do you think? I guess all this is a bit much to ask after just meeting at a table the other night, eh?"

    Everyone sees this.

    (2) - Inside the box is a computer tablet with a cracked screen and some crumpled paper.

The room darkens. You can see yourself and the others just fine, but everything else has gone pitch black, all save a sort of red glow around the "floor". The temperature drops maybe twenty degrees in an instant and mist swirls around your legs. The walls seem to be pressing in on you: they are covered with white symbols: a circle with an X through it.

Your feet feel like they're filled with lead: you're stuck where you are.

From the shadows walks a tall, thin figure. Far too tall, and far too thin. It's bony hands are red with what looks like caked blood. It is wearing a black suit, ornate, with a white handkerchief tucked in the wide collar. It is holding some sort of weapon: a polearm of sorts, with an odd, double crescent blade. It has no face.

The figure walks towards Varen and bends down: to come down to your level, it has to bend double. It extends a bloody, slender finger towards you, and it presses against your chest. You hear a voice in your head, distorted and alien.

    THE PRINCE MUST DIE.

The figure vanishes, the room goes back to normal.

You know that thing in anime when someone takes a few seconds after they get sliced up to start bleeding? That happens to you. All over. And all the cuts are the same as what was on the walls.

Varen screams in pain and falls to the ground. He clutches at whatever wounds his hands can reach while gasping. Between gasps, he mutters "No" and "It's him."

Jack draws his pistol, pointing it at a Varen, visibly distressed.

"WHAT IN THE SWEET LOVE OF FUCK WAS THAT."

He backs towards the door, slowly.

"Shit, that wasn't... SHIT. Stay back! All of you! Dr. Shen, see to the kid's wounds. You, Prawn! Stay RIGHT THE FUCK where you are. I bet you're responsible for this. You were so ready to open the damn thing, and you didn't even have any reason to think it was anything more than a box full of letters and fuckin' cookies! I... I have to make a fuckin' phone call. If any one of you tries to leave this room, I'll shoot. I... I didn't want THAT. I didn't... DAMMIT."

Jack backs out the door, taking a small bar stool/ chair with him. He then attempts to shut and lock it, barring it from the other side with the afore-mentioned piece of furniture.

"Fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK.... Keep calm, Heel... Just..."

Keeping his gun leveled at the door, Jack then attempts to take out his phone and call his Foundation Contact.

    (5) - You do so.

    (1) - The phone is fucked up, man: the display is all warped as distorted with visual static and tears.

It's making a sort of warbly screeching noise. Someone's calling you.

You feel a pain in your right temple, like someone was driving in a white-hot railroad spike.

Dr. Shen silently and immediately sees to Varen's wounds, and also attempts to call back to Foundation headquarters.

He keeps a lookout and points his cane frantically around towards where the figure might have been, and prepares to fire.

    (4) - You're able to stop the bleeding, but the marks won't heal properly: they're leaving scars

    (2) - You're getting no reception at all, just static and what sounds like a Spanish radio soap opera.

There's no figure there anymore. The temperature is back to normal, and there's no mist either.

    (4) You succeed in getting one shot into your leg, which goes completely numb.

    (5) - "Hello, Agent Heel." You hear the robotic voice of a Foundation autoresponder. "The first part of your mission has been a success: your performance was excellent. Now, you must guide the proxy Varen to the Prince. Do not fail us, Agent Heel."

    (4) - The stairs are clear, except for some chunks of wall that had gotten loose: The interior of the pyramid is an absolute bunker. It's still completely flooded with LCL, though, and as such is really dark. Mimi's still lit up, but it's good idea to watch your step.

The door to the EVA bay looks to be sealed, mostly. It closed awkwardly, so there's a really tight squeeze. It might be better to just go around.

"Yes. I understand. I will not fail. The Proxy will be guided."

    Jack's eyes glaze over slightly.

"What of the doctor and the Poleepkwa?"

"We apologize for the inconvenience, Agent Shen, but due to technical difficulties, your call must be put on hold."

    "Understood."

Jack blinks a few times, attempting to resist the odd urge to sit down and enjoy a nice game of Solitaire. Now, assuming he's back in Oblivious Mode, the only question is why does he believe that he must get Varen to the Prince, and how does he think this corresponds with the personal mission he believes he came here for?
