I like to think that with any sort of utencil that makes no sense in a country without fingers, a unicorn just copied the idea from another country.
after all it's not like unicorns have to worry about grip :V
Griffons invented bowling, after all!
This has important ramifications on the culture that comes out of it.
Given the clues, their religion/philosophy is somewhat like Hinduism and/or Buddhism, what with a definite caste system, philanthropy (philequipy?) and all that jazz.
People assume that Earth ponies are worthless compared to pegasi and unicorns, even though the three pony species are pretty much Fighter Thief Mage. All three pony types are equal in their own way.
I think the magical energy is contained in all ponies, but it's released raw as a unicorn through the horn, is released by the back of the pegasus wing, and by the touch of an Earth-pony. That's why AJ is so good with plants, the energy is transferred to her crops, and Pinkie has the most amazing energy.
I'm not going to mention what made me think of this... but lets just say I can picture flowers growing under an Earth-pony's hoof while they walk.

I thought that was confirmed in Hearth Warming's Eve, with the play stating Earth Ponies are the only ones able to grow good crops.
At least that's what I think they said.
Pinkie is obviously an epic-level Bard.
She even has the magic-like ability "Summon: Parade".
Jokes aside, even assuming Earth ponies didn't/don't have special powers, they never seem to be treated with any sort of prejudice or seen as less than the other ponies. I could see them getting jealous of flight or magic sometimes, but I don't exactly see establishments saying "pegasi only" in Equestria unless those establishments happen to literally require pegasus abilities to survive in. Like cloud-walking, for example.
For a while I was certain that Earth ponies didn't have any special powers, and I certainly never saw them as somehow less than the other two "species" of pony. It just seems to me like special powers don't matter in this world nearly as much as the type of person you are. And Celestia and Luna don't seem the type to try and casteisize the land.
oh god MLP FiM DnD edition xD
Pinkie magic is the best magic.
Earth pony as a theif makes sense. Look at pinkie who is able to run faster than RD when RD is flying.
Hey, guys.
Did you know I watch ponies?
I didn't either!
I even wrote this (don't hit me) thing
I have not written stuff in forever. :X
It bears noting that earth ponies seem to be more physically dextrous. Applejack can roast marshmallows, holding the stick in her hoof. Both she and Apple Bloom have demonstrated prehensile tails. Pinkie... is Pinkie. And so on. I don't say that the other types don't do that sort of thing, but they seem to do it less than earth ponies.
Also, Obsel, someone left a message for you. Hang on, let me pull it out... Here you go
Just listened to the dress making song, reminded me of the 'Humans in Equestria' argument earlier.
Twilight requests a proper depiction of Orion's Belt, one of two constellations I know of that is are human; the other is the guy wrestling a snake. Not to say humans don't have constellations of things that don't actually exist (What the fuck is a Capricorn), but even with that in mind we have to remember that in Equestria CONSTELLATIONS ARE ALIVE. Ursa Major and Minor in Boast Busters are massive. Effectively the creators, should they choose to do a Brony episode, can make Orion and Ophiuchus come to town and play with ponies by brushing their manes and playing make believe. I can't think of any Aesop for such an episode but it would be amazing.
Sorry if anyone thought of this already, but I really like this idea.
Maybe Earth-ponies function on the "Ugly Girl" theory. I use the term "Theory" very loosely, in this case.
Ugly girls aren't handed everything they need in life, so they work hard and learn special skills. That's why the talented ones are ugly.
and yes, I'm obviously joking, because there are plenty of things to break this theory, and I'm not a sexist asshole.

It's possible that Unicorns are more common in Canterlot because the best (and possibly only) magic school is there.
Edit: Freaking ninja'd!
Edit 2: HWE definitely supported the feudalism hypothesis.
Earth-Farmers
Uni-Nobles
Pega-Soldiers
But it looks like that died out when Equestria was founded.

-Nature of Sig-
But the bears are called "an Ursa Major" and "an Ursa Minor". Not "the" and "the". Implying there are more than one of those creatures. Which would imply those creatures are not the constellations they were named after.
It's like if science discovered a much-larger-than-usual bear and decided to name it, well, Ursa Major. That wouldn't mean the constellation had fallen from the sky and was walking around, that would mean that naming stuff after constellations is a cool idea.
I'm not saying you're wrong, and it is a kind of cool theory that constellations are alive and walking, it's just not viable to go ahead and make the assumption you're right is all. Sorry.
Raggle fraggle.
Also I guess society isn't so much hierarchical as it is segregated. Unicorns/Pegasi/Earth Ponies are all roughly equal socially, but there are different things that each of them generally do, along with towns that are predominantly of one variety (like Ponyville for Earth Ponies, or Cloudsdale for Pegasi).
(Also I totally wouldn't mind feedback on that thing I may or may not have written
Because I am trying to get back into writing
And also I'm not sure if I'm doing Discord right at all)
