Re: The Audiosurf Thread (The colors!)

I forgot how poorly this game meshes with my slightly obsessive personality. I can do the first 30 seconds or so of Time on My Side on Ninja Mono perfectly, but I have hit a wall and can't progress any further. Any further progress, analytically deciding which blocks to skip and which to get, is severely hampered by how long it takes. Once I master the first 30-second stretch, I have to play through those 30 seconds a dozen or so times to solve the first 35 seconds.

Meh, I'll probably just give it a shot on Ninja Pro tomorrow morning.

That is quite the extensive list, Vlad. Nice job!

Eventually everyone's score will be in the OP for every album, but only as we do the "album-of-the-week" thing because updating that huge mass is all at once is not something I want to do.

Re: The Audiosurf Thread (Album of the Week: Volume 8!)

Just made Casual champion for 'Kingside Castle' (37,518 points). My in-game name is Didero too.

Also, my tactic for Mono is just to pick up as many coloured blocks as I can, except maybe a few at the end to make sure I get the Clean Finish bonus. Is that the best way to do it, or should you also sometimes skip blocks to make a bigger combo later?
Because my scores for some other HS songs were not even half of the champion's (on Mono Pro).

EDIT: I'm also Casual champion for 'Temporary' now, with 110,274 points
    EDIT2: And 'Airtime' (107,379 points).
EDIT3: 'Unite Synchronization' too, 83,006 points.

Missing certain blocks can give you a higher score, yes. But that's... complicated.

Mono generally has a lower score potential.

I did a buncha stuff with DV Pro.

Havoc DV Pro is the best course on all Audiosurf, hands down.

Also I got the throne on Cascade beta with dv pro and 201k

Basically, a 5x combo is worth more than two 3x combos. Therefore, if you have two groups of 3 blocks that are too far apart to combine in a 6x combo then it is better to get only 2 of the blocks from the first group. It can get a lot more complicated than that, and I am no expert, but that's the basic idea.

I'll check my other songs too, see if something weird happened there as well.

That would require you to know the track pretty well, and/or be able to think and react very quickly.
I'll stick to my current tactic then

Hmm, most of my other songs look a bit off as well. The difference is minor, but apparently significant.
Just ignore all my scores then, otherwise it's not fair.

Re: The Audiosurf Thread (Album of the Week: Volume 8!)

So is there anything that decides where the coloured or gray blocks go on Mono mode? Like, melody-wise or is it just random?

If the song seems slightly laggy is that because my computer is slow or could it be because the song not suited for the game?

Does the song influence if the track turns side-ways? Vertically is obvious but are the turns random?

Whoops questions that isn't actually important for playing.

Re: The Audiosurf Thread (Album of the Week: Volume 8!)

The tracks are the same every time you play them, so I'm pretty sure they are generated from the song deterministically. I don't actually know though, there could be some weirdness.

Pretty sure mO is right; it's determined when the song is created and doesn't change. I don't know if the melody has anything to do with colors or greys though. It could just be random.

If the song seems slightly laggy is that because my computer is slow or could it be because the song not suited for the game?
If it overall seems laggy, it's likely a compuner issue. I think you can lower the graphics settings? If the track itself seems "bouncy" it could be part of the song, like the drumline, that makes that happen. I know it does it with a few HS songs that I can't name off the top of my head.

Does the song influence if the track turns side-ways? Vertically is obvious but are the turns random?
Yeah, I think at more intense moments the track tends to turn. If you play Showtime (Imp Strife Mix), it's like entirely downhill AND it tends to curve a LOT.

Before I went to sleep last night I started in on Vol. 1-4, so if I keep updating that list it's going to get way too big. I think from now on I'll just post the current album challenge scores. I'll get to work on the rest of Vol. 8 tonight when I get home.

Also, that damn Imp. That track certainly came out of left field as far as difficulty goes.

    EDIT: HAHA OOPS WRONG THREAD

    Okay let's say something else.
    Thank you mO and MW.
This was a fun game, but as soon as I try anything else than Mono I fail at everything.

Haha yeah it is definitely a strategy that rewards multiple playthroughs. One general tactic I can suggest is keeping two colored square in each of your right and left lanes. This adds a total of 4 to the next big group you run into, and is usually more profitable than blowing the whole thing on a 5x combo and a couple of 3x's.

So I finally caved and bought Album 8 and decided to do a blind run of Cascade on Ninja Pro. It went... poorly. It was incredibly laggy, I think I must have managed to hit all of the grey squares. All of them! And then I finished the song and realized I'd actually had two Audiosurf processes running at the same time

Still, managed a respectable 95,690 for a first run. Now to go do songs that are significantly shorter...

Re: The Audiosurf Thread (Album of the Week: Volume 8!)

Whoa, a reason to actually post! I'll probably sort through my scores a bit later when I'm not feeling as lazy... But, can anyone say what version of Scourge Sisters they're using? Most people are getting a different track than I am, and I'm just using the FLAC version from bandcamp.
