    Problem Sleuth.

I first discovered Homestuck whilst plumbing the depths of Tvtropes, and i kind of gave it half a shot. i wasn't really in the webcomic mood at the time, i didn't bother to listen to [s]'s, and all the programming jokes went over my head. i found it dull and decided it was overhyped/not my cup of tea. then my brother got me to read problem sleuth several months later. it was fantastic, the climax was amazing, and the ending was superb. i finally decided to give homestuck another chance.

now, i had a more open mind this time around, but it was still hampered by the fact that i knew so little about programming. but i did listen this time around, and i was really wowed the first time i heard sburban jungle. then act 1 was over, and act 2 began. this was probably the act that made me decide not to stop reading unless i had to (for sleep and school).

Well, even though I really liked it, I kind of didn't pay much attention to the very start of Homestuck.
I didn't even notice the sylladices were based off of data structures, even though it was EXPLICITLY STATED and didn't notice John wasn't in planet Earth until the recap. (I thought he and his house were transported to LOWAS or something).

There was a RADIOHEAD QUOTE here. It's gone now.

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

I started to read Homestuck when my friend recommended it to me. I was sort of bored with the first few pages, until John left his room, and we saw his house decorated in Harlequins. I don't know why, I just started to really Like John and his family at that moment.
This thread has just been derpified.

For me it was a combination of two things: My sister's persistence in trying to get me to read it and my own being bored at work/school. I started reading it at the end of August 2011. Act I was super boring, I almost didnt make it through. The cycle went like this: Extremely bored --> Read some homestuck --> "Omg so much talking", stop reading --> Attempt to do work --> *return to start*. And through that method I read the whole comic, until Act 5 part 2.... then I read it pretty much non stop, cuz things were finally happening.

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

I really have a tough time remembering my life pre-Homestuck, even though I just got caught up on 11-11. I blame it on a bad memory and a very addictive personality. I have always fallen easily for things that are popular and meme-etic. Like many, I found the site first through TvTropes and I knew I absolutely HAD to read it when I looked and there was an entry for Ho Yay. No, really. The first panel I ever read was the one with the tiny smile, and I needed to know the context.

Since the end of Harry Potter I have really been hurting for a fandom. It is just a thing I need, and Homestuck has the best one I have found so far. Constant theory making and fanworks, I even love the shipping wars.

So, what got me stuck on Homestuck? You guys. I blame all of you.

Eh, found it on tvtropes. I had read a few pages before, but I'd forgotten about them until I had deja vu when Eridan died.

I got promises that it was going to be good, then I found it, then...
Zoosmell Pooplord. Heheh, at least I thought that was funny.

So I read on. Then John got on his computer? Chatting? Online friends? A game they were gonna play together? Oh hey, I can actually relate to some of that. Specifically the online game thing.
I didn't get really hooked until I read the first recap though, the one with all those links which I bothered clicking. Then everything made sense. Then I was hooked. Then I caught up within a month, I think?

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

My bro, plainWonder, had been reading it from the start. I often noticed as he was watching flashes, and he showed them to me! I was like: "Wow, this is cool, but I understand nothing and I probably wouldn't either if I'd read it from the start."

I also was confused when he rewatched flashes, I was like: "Why would you even do that?".

But at a certain moment, [S] Jade: Enter came out and I was like "Oh my god this is awesome" and began thinking to myself. "Shall I try it?". And I think a bit later that day, or the day after, when I was on my computer, I said to my bro: "Hey, I think I'll try reading that one comic. What's the link to it?".

And then I got started. I was quite neutral about Act 1, but read it completely, and my main reason to keep reading was because of the flashes I had seen. Fortunately, I had almost completely forgotten what happened in them, so the surprise was kept for me.

I quite enjoyed the flashes, but not too much. I almost flipped my shit when my bro told me that there were about 20 'main' characters (Kids, Trolls, Exiles). When we temporarily were Maplehoof I was thinking: "Wait. The fuck. No. This can't be one of the main characters, right?".

Same with WV because I freaked a bit out by how he looked, I guess. But then, when [S] WV: Ascend came. I clearly remember thinking: "What have I gotten myself into?". I thought it was SO awesome and then I became really hooked and kept on reading.

I finished in 10 days, and it was just the day before Jade's Imp Strife, which confirmed to me how awesome it was to be reading Homestuck.

To this date, Explore is still my most favorite music. [S] WV: Ascend is still ONE of my favorite flashes.

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

I basically kept going through the MSPA archives straight after reading Problem Sleuth, but when I got to WV: Ascend is probably when I knew I wasn't going to be able to stop reading. Like any really good story, it answered a few questions and posed so many more. As Jade would say, I suddenly understood jack shit. The raw epicness of the flash just told me that those questions weren't going to be all tied up for a good long while.

I read problem sleuth over the course of 2 days, and after that decided to check the ongoing adventure. Homestuck was only about 10 pages in at the time and I wasn't really enthralled, so I completely forgot about it. I actually didn't check again until Jan. 2011, and decided I was just gonna read this thing no matter what happened.

I was hooked with the first mention of the word 'grist'.

I heard it was good, so I kept reading through Act 1. By the time John entered the Medium, I was hooked and dying to find out what would happen next.

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

Technically I began reading Homestuck a year ago. But after page 6 I gave up because I didn't see the story really going anywhere. However, as of December 2011 I returned to give reading Homestuck an honest effort. Albeit I did have a blank confused expression on my face for the first several hundred pages, I ever so slowly caught on. I began reading again because a certain friend pressured me into doing so and because I found the "Masteryorgi" Youtube videos to be hilarious even though I was fuzzy on the characters.

But due to my vigilant reading and perusing of the MSPA wiki I can say that I understand Homestuck as well as the average fan and I don't regret a single page! After the first couple thousand pages I realized that Hussie was putting a lot of effort into the venture of managing and continuing Homestuck and my respect for him went +3000. Then I got to the page with a strangled Doc Scratch and the Calvin & Hobbes reference and my respect for Andrew Hussie grew 3 sizes that day.

In short, Homestuck has colorful characters (Ayyyye, I made a pun), a setting more detailed than the Sistine Chapel, jokes more cultured (at times) than those told by Bill Watterson, and a plot as complex and elusive as all get out, and a fandom made out of pure MiRaClEs.
    It's a magical world, Hobbes, 'ol buddy. . .

    . . .let's go exploring!

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

I tried reading it after a good friend of mine got hooked, and seeing the length I gave up. About a month ago after months of seeing amazing fanart of it on Tumblr and Deviantart and reading through some character profiles (mostly Karkat because I wanted to see Hussie interpretation of a Cancer) I decided to give it another go and to stick it out until I at least got to the trolls. Needless to say I kept reading and I'm now completly caught up and its become my favorite comic of all time.

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

I forced myself to continue reading it because I saw a hilarious video with the Trolls. I kept telling myself that it gets better by Act 5 and kept trying to compare my life to those of the children. Act 1 bored me but after the whole Intermission, I finally got completely hooked and couldn't stop reading. I read it every night before bed and fangirled with my friends over it until I got to the update. I wouldn't be so close to half of my artsy friends if it wasn't for Homestuck, so I'm incredibly thankful.

This is even cooler than I hoped it would be. Thanks for writing all this so far everyone!

I think the crazyest thing is that people tripped over the music first and got hooked from that. Music team, take another bow! ALL OF THE BOWS. Yeah.

I got hooked on Homestuck when Problem Sleuth used a fort to enter the land of make-believe.

I mean I didn't know it yet, and wouldn't until Homestuck came into existence half a year later, but that was the moment from which there was no turning back.

I heard about HS on a some forums, but never really tried reading it. Two of my friends from both forums kept talking about it, so soon I gave it a try. I got a bit into Act 1, but soon got bored and stopped. One of them persuaded me to keep reading, and it would get better, so I tried it again. Eventually, I got hooked on it and just kept reading.

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

I originally found Homestuck through a friend I met in my Portfolio Prep class. I can't remember exactly (even though it was only two or three months ago, that's how bad my memory is), but she was all, "Ohhh man this is like Homestuck" and I'm all, "Isn't it that weird game thing?" To be honest I had never heard of Homestuck (okay maybe a phrase or two on other forums) and she was all, "Well it's not really a game... It's like... Uh... You click... And stuff... " "So like a point-and-click." "Yeah!" "Oh! I have to check that out sometime." Then she asked me for my birthday and was all, "Oh you're Karkat!" "Whut. Who's Karkat." "He's basically like Troll Jesus. And he swears a lot." "Huh."
A couple days later, I started reading Homestuck. I just kinda thought, This isn't really a point-and-click...? and kept on reading.
I guess you could say I was hooked from the first condescending word. I've never seen anything written in a second-person POV before, and the way Andrew writes is just like... Addicting to read or something. I loved Acts 1, 2, and 3, but the Intermission wasn't too big on me and I skipped a lot of it (which means I have to reread it) since I wanted to get back to the main storyline (haha they were actually really important... Should've figured). I also skipped a lot of Hivebent (I'm not actually sure why, seeing as how they were trolls, for fuck's sake), too, but it was still pretty awesome.
I read Problem Sleuth while waiting for updates (a little while after Christmas) in about 24 combined hours. Jailbreak and Bard Quest followed shortly after.

I guess you could say Homestuck has taken over my life now (but that's the way it is with every fandom I get into. I mean, just look at how Hetalia took over my life for about a year), and it's led to so many beautiful moments...

I will forever be stuck to my Home~

[S] John: Play haunting piano refrain. I was getting a little bored by Act 1, but I found the idea of a webcomic incorporating sound and music intriguing enough to keep going, and didn't ever really falter after that.

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

    Truthfully, I think it was a nuzlocke over at their forums named Truckstuck that was in MSPA format that got me hooked. I had no idea whatsoever about Homestuck prior. Though I think I've seen some drawings of trolls on an oekaki on another forum. I read through act one in one night, and didn't skip much of anything. I repeat the process for act two, but then when the trolls came, I kinda skipped over those conversations, as it was a pain to read at the time. Then I was stuck reading it. I was yelled at all the time at school when I was reading it or watching the flashes. ^^;

Re: What stuck you on Homestuck?

I caught up to Problem Sleuth when DMK's third face was revealed. I was only somewhat hooked by that point, though. When Homestuck started, I was more or less hooked instantly, being more entertained by Act 1 then most other people I guess. Didn't realize how much a fan of it I was until Descend, though.
