First and foremost, I believe it is important to note that this is not the thread in which this idea originated! Spongefan2 put for the suggestion for creating a Homestuck musical here and that is where all planning, auditions, and writing have taken place so far. However, in Spongefan's absence, and in great need of an update to the OP, all planning and writing is to be moved to this thread from now on.

What is this even about?
It's a musical. Based on Homestuck. What else is there to say?

Where are you getting the music?
Thus far all submitted musical numbers have been based on songs from the Homestuck albums, with lyrics written by posters in the thread. New melodies are often invented for vocal parts as well. It is possible that in the future some entirely new songs will be written, but as of now all songs have been based on existing pieces.

How much of the Homestuck story are you covering in this project?
All of it. The whole goddamn thing. We're in for the long haul here! We realize that this is a massive project, and have considered several ways of splitting it up. The current plan is to make a trilogy of gigantic musicals. Luckily, we don't have to worry about time constraints.

Is this supposed to be a stage musical? Or what?
While that would be insanely cool, no, Homestuck is MUCH to long to condense into a stage production without cutting out huge chunks of plot. This project is primarily an audio musical. In the future, there is the possibility of putting the songs to animation or creating album art to go along with them, but that's rather far off seeing as, y'know, we haven't even got all of the music yet.

Who is even running this show?
We are. The people in this thread. And the old thread. You can too if you want. More specifically though, Keltzy, Superdog, and I are sort of handling administrative and organizational duties together. We have had MANY contributions for ideas, songs, and the like, but our primary song writers at the moment seem to be Paradoxius, VeritasUnae, and Keltzy. Of course, everyone is helping out. Together we form the CHORUS OF AUTHORSPACE, providing wicked sick ambience vocals for Hussie and his buds, Ms. Paint and Lil' Cal. Oh yeah.

Jade finds Dave's copy of SBURB in the mystic ruins
The time capsule resets itself to about 400 years in the future
Jade switches to her Pictionary modus
Ignoring the trolling attempts, she captchalogues her lunchtop and copy of the game, but when she tries to captchalogue something she doesn't have (a Charles Dutton photo), it turns into a ghost image. She gets the captcha code, but can't use it.
Pumpkins have no captcha code
Bec catches her and teleports her back to her room, forcing her to leave some things behind
She starts installing the beta
She is trolled some more, but ignores them

John tries to ask Rose if she's in the same place as him, but she doesn't answer.
He then talks to Jade who knows exactly where he is.
She explains that she's about to start playing with Dave, and that John will have to be her server player.
She directs him to his father's car in order to get his server copy and package, which convinces John that she is psychic.
She maintains that she has access to the same information that John does, John just doesn't know it yet.
Once finished talking to Jade, John gets trolled

Dave tries to pester Rose, but she doesn't answer due to poor laptop placement; he decides he'll read her gamefaqs page before realizing it's far too wordy for his tastes.
Jade then contacts him and informs him that she will be his server player. She wants to set things up early to avoid the drama that the other two wound up with.
Rose finally opens her laptop.

John gets trolled by Karkat
He's surprised that he was found even after changing his chumhandle
He finally believes the trolls are not human, but still doesn't want to talk to him
Karkat, however, assures him that they are friends
He reveals that he's been talking to John in reverse order
He also reveals that the trolls are in the medium, have nothing to do with their session, and that the kids aren't the only ones playing the game.
Finally, he asks John to tell Jade to talk to them
John goes off to search for his father's car

WV mediates between AR and PM by sharing his canned rations with them
The three are now friends

Jade starts setting things up as Dave's server player as meteors fall in his city
Dave is a little less than thrilled with the way she is placing things.
Dave finally talks to Rose, who complains that she's had to wait for the boys all day, but Jade was able to connect with Dave minutes after he connected with her, despite not actually having the game before.
She reveals that she spoke with one of the trolls, and checked up on John. However, she can no longer see him.
She doesn't know if they're in the same place, but she does know that she likes it where she is.
Jade tries to tidy up Dave's apartment for a bit.

Rose arrives in Lolar

AR has Jade's things left behind in the temple
WV and PM find a mysterious gizmo inside the cork (the one that later takes Jack to the troll's session) but they don't have enough power to use it.
PM compliments WV on his chalk drawings

John goes to a mailbox tube and gets a tablet asking for a shoe, He complies
The same happens with a hat and another tube.
He gets an uncarved tablet from the next one, then a chisel, and a chunk of amber
John sees his house far above him and talks to Nannasprite about it
She explains that the first gate causes you to descend
And he must find the next gate hidden somewhere in the land.
She refuses to explain where it will lead to though.

Now Rose is hearing the voices

John finds some of his salamander denizens being attacked by basilisks and a giclops as a fire rages on.

Jade uses a toilet to release Dave's kernelsprite by dropping it in his room
He is understandably upset
He realizes that she is actually asleep and talking through her dreambot
While Dave is in the bathroom, Jade finds the dead crow and decides to help it
Jade puts seppucrow in the kernel sprite and grabs Dave's copy of the game while she's at it
Dave has dreambot Jade slap real Jade awake

AR is also trying to win the heart of PM

In the past AR discovers Mr. Egbert's car
It's all quite illegal
He writes a ticket and finds and confiscates John's present and server copy of SBURB
PM wanders upon the scene and sees the package that she's been told she needs to deliver

John has trouble fighting off the monsters but is saved mysteriously (by Grandpa Harley)

PM sees a faded spirograph on the wall of the ruins and realizes she must tell John something

Past PM gets a tablet asking for John's copy of the game
She approaches AR who is flustered by her
However, when she asks for the parcels, he must refuse and tells her she needs to talk to his superiors.
After showing him the game tablet, he concedes to give her the copy of the game.
She puts the game in a mail pyxis, then follows AR

John wants to follow his mysterious savior (because he holds a copy of Sassacre's), but needs to save the salamanders.
He tries to put the fire out with Barbasol, but it backfires spectacularly.
Suddenly, a convenient wind comes and puts out the flames
Future PM asks John to carve something on the tablet

Rose is exploring Lolar and finds footprints in the sand leading to the mausoleum
She enters the secret passage which leads to a dock
It seems her mother has left by boat

WV and AR build exile town/a militia for it to impress PM
A giant egg appears in the sky falling to the ground near them

Dave gets an egg as his entrance requirement
He and Jade aren't sure if he needs to break or hatch it.
Seppucrow carries the egg to the top of a tower and puts it in a nest
Dave and Jade find out that with each new Server/Client connection they get more money and items to start with.
Jade makes improvements on Dave's alchmiter
Dave installs Grist Torrent and illegally pirates some of John's shale

Rose touches base with John
Then gets trolled by Terezi, who believes it would be mutually beneficial to work together, even if she will always hate them.
She also reveals that from her perspective, they've only been talking to the kids for a few minutes, and that she intends to troll them in a linear manner, unlike some of her cohorts.
There are also 12 players in their session.
She then goes on to explain that the voices the kids are hearing are exiles, which reside on the dead Earth/Alternia in the future.
Their role is to guide the kids, complete time loops, and apparently ressurect Earth.
They are exiled from within the incipisphere.

In the past:
Jade is told by John that he's sent her birthday present, but he realizes it won't reach her in time.
Karkat then interrupts her, and tells her that when her Dreambot blows up, she should contact them.
She returns to her conversation with John and mentions that they've been trolling her for years.
Jade then gets a package from her penpal
John gets trolled by Terezi
He decides to change his Chumhandle to ectoBiologist, based on her calling him "A total disgrace to the field of Ectobiology"

PM follows AR to a Dersite palace. She's brought the parking citation as an excuse in case anyone asks what she's doing there
She finds the Black Queen
She shows her the parking ticket, and the queen points her in the direction of Jack Noir, the archagent

The voices leave Rose
Feeling more independent, she decides to sip her mother's left behind martini before realizing it tastes horrible.

WQ appears outside of her egg
PM tells John to put his carved tablet in a pyxis
The ground shakes as the egg falls.

PM sees the box and wants to run off with it, but Jack Noir appears suddenly
She throws out the ticket and explains she's just here for the box
He doesn't want to fill out the paperwork, but offers to give it if she takes out the White King and Queen
He gives her a sword to do so
Curious, Jack opens the package

Dave plays around with the new extensions to his alchemiter
Jade ghost captchalogues the punch designex, and sends the code to Dave
She does the same with the holopad, the totem lathe, and the jumper block extension, but her sylladex misreads the laser beam station as a giant mech

John finds his dad's car
Terezi trolls John, and tells him she wants to see if the timeline can be messed with, and for this reason offers to help him.
She directs him to a pipe which will lead him to the gate he needs.

Rose fights off monsters
Dave pesters Rose
He's run out of grist while building up her house, and tries to convince her to kill the Oger she's floating on. She isn't very receptive to the idea.
Dave gets trolled by Kanaya, asking for advice on how to better troll Rose
The answer: sarcasm
Rose gets trolled by Tavros asking the same for Dave
The answer: poetry
Rose gets trolled by Kanaya who sends her a transcript of her first conversation with Rose, which both find baffling.
Tavros poorly trolls Dave with rap

John takes a shortcut through the pipe, and almost loses the bunny
After saving it, he sees a salamander family
He gives the baby salamander the bunny, and names her Casey, as an homage to Conair
He gets trolled by Karkat
They talk about movies, then John mentions that Terezi is helping him
When Karkat confronts her about it, he finds that whatever she did happened in their past
John asks Karkat if he's talked to Jade yet, which sends him off to look into that
John then talks to Terezi
He relays a message from Karkat that sounds suspiciously like a love confession
He also relays her future self's actions from the previous conversation
She points him to his denizen's place
She explains the concept of the denizens, and explains that she's going to have him kill it in its sleep to release the grist hoarde for the ultimate alchemy
John hops in a return node, and reappears in his room

WV and AR make a crown for WQ
PM sees the goings on

Past PM explains her situation to WQ
WQ removes her ring and gives PM her crown
The ring must be protected

Rose consults with Jaspersprite who relays some hints as to what her quest is
She asks what the meaning was behind the message he left her before he died; he explains that she'll know once she "wakes up."
She asks a sleeping Jade for clarification

A sleeping dreamself remains troubled and restless about things burdening her
Jade tells her a clue to awakening her dreamself may be found in the writing on her walls, of which she too, was unaware of
She then asks Dave to get a screencap of her room and send her the file
He's not answering, so she asks Jade to contact him, but she refuses because he told her not to bother him while she's asleep
Dream Jade is in Dream John's room. A jester doll is on the floor, and scary clown drawings cover the walls, with motivational messages from Jade covering them

Dave is trying to climb the tower and reach his egg

Terezi tells John to give her the code for his alchemized monstrosity, and has Sollux pull the rocket code from it.
John makes the rocket pack, then gets pestered by Dave
Dave informs him that he's arrived within the medium
Dave tells him that Rose is asleep, and asks what to prototype his kernelsprite with
John doesn't know, but Dave notices that it appears to be suggesting something.
John captchalogues Casey and blasts off

Alternate timeline Dave and Calsprite are at their fifth gate. They fight off a bunch of monsters
He pesters Rose
He can't stand Calsprite and decides that after 4 months, he wants to go back in time
They reveal that John and Jade are dead
They also never heard from the Trolls again
He explains what happened to John
Rose is concerned about what her fate will be once Dave leaves
He suggests she try going to sleep, because if part of her from this timeline persists, it will be her dreamself
She may even be able to wake up sooner.
She tells him that if that happens, she will visit him first this time to remind him that he's been awake and just didn't know it.
Dave travels back in time to find the Dave that has just entered Lohac
Dave has the conversation with John from just before he blasts off, but this time tells him to wait.
He explains that according to his future self, John will die if he goes.
Future Dave gives Alpha Dave all of his stuff, then prototypes himself with seppucrow

John blasts off anyway

Rose takes a nap and future Dream Rose ceases to exist, leaving Rose with some of her knowledge

Davesprite contacts Terezi and tells her not to talk to John anymore
She starts her "Hey Dave, is this you?" thing
He admits she's a pretty good troll, she admits he's really not all that terrible.
Davesprite then proceeds to chill with himself

John remembers the birthday note Dave gave him, and has a change of heart about ignoring his advice
John gets pestered by Dave
Dave is upset that John still blasted off, but John assures him that he's just taking his cool, new jetpack for a ride.
"You're my best bro, and if you say not to go, then I won't go."
While trolling John, Karkat is becoming fed up with his choice to move in a reverse chronological direction
He explains that they're hiding in the veil in their session, briefly introduces Prospit and Derse, explains in detail the circumstances of the reckoning, and reaveals that the kids don't have much time until it happens.
He reveals that there are labs on some of the meteors, and that John is in one of them the next time they talk.

On Derse Jack is shirking his duties when the queen comes in and tries to force him to wear the princess/jester abomination
Jack strongly refuses
Dream Rose sees the meow code written on her walls, and recalls that the secret Jaspers told her when she was young was "Meow."
Mom beats a monster
Dad beats a monster and carves a hat onto a tablet

She gets the scepter and crown from WK
Jack destroys BK's scepter and kills the king
HB attacks PM, causing her to lose the scepter

Rose alchemizes a bunch of stuff, including the Thorns of Oglogoth and now easily takes out monsters with her newfound magic

Jade builds up Dave's house

Dave plays with his alchemiter
He makes copies of Rose's journals
Dave finds "Complacency of the Learned" to be involved and kind of confusing, so he uses his copy of the beta to mark his place to come back to it later
Dave notices that Rose is burning her copy of the meow code
She explains that the dark gods told her to, and suggests that Dave try looking at the sky without his shades some time.
Davesprite also asks why she burned the book, citing that it was useless in the future
She explains that his travelling to the past made it relevant
She also reveals that she has kept some of future Rose's memories.
Dave, upset at being left out of the loop, goes upstairs to join Davesprite
DD sneaks into Dave's room while he's gone
Dave consults Davesprite
He finds it pretty funny how he made a copy of the book right before she burned it
He decides he should probably do the same
When he comes back to his room, the journals are gone
He's about to go back in time to stop him, but he finds a dead version of himself and determines that would be a bad idea

John asks Karkat to get back to him in a few minutes so he can tend to the babies

While riding the rocket board in the veil, AR finds the frog temple
He finds a time capsule in the temple

She's been taken in by Sassacre and his wife, Betty Crocker
There is an explosion in the back yard
Sassacre gets shot by baby grandpa
The camera is fixed on the dog, Halley
13 years later, the boy and the dog set off on an adventure, leaving little Nanna alone with Crocker
AR deems this all pointless
DD enters the temple
He tosses "Complacency of the Learned" on the ground, and the SBURB copies land in the time capsule
This time it will bloom in several hundred million years

Karkat gets back to John
John points out that Karkat keeps on telling him that their session is doomed, but has never said why
Karkat answers: "Jack Noir."
He explains that Jack Noir in their session was harmless, but that the kids are playing an entirely different version of the same game
He doesn't know what allowed Jack Noir in the kids' session to become so powerful, but alludes that there's worse in store for the kids
John is suddenly struck with inspiration and ceaces talking to Karkat
He gives the bunnies to Rose and Jade as an homage to Conair as Karkat and Terezi watch

Dave and Terezi troll each other
She sends him more of her "is this you?" pics
Jade and Tavros have a pleasant conversation
Jade thinks she's the one who's supposed to wakes John up, but doesn't know how
She asks why Tavros is the only one to ever troll them in their sleep; he says he's curious about the things that happen on Prospit because the only time he ever had fun in-game was while he was there.
Now, however, their dream selves are dead. Jade is surprised that they can die.
Kanaya tries to troll Rose, but she is busy and blows her off
Dave starts to warm up to Terezi's trolling.
Dave asks where his bro is, but apparently he doesn't see him again before the rift
She offers to help him instead, to which he agrees
She directs him to his next gate

Dave is climbing the tower trying to get to the egg as meteors draw closer
Seppucrow knocks him off the tower, but Bro comes in riding the meteor and cuts it in two, catching Dave with his rocket board

I'm sure there are other people that an English accent could work for, but Kanaya would probably be the most suited female character for that! Still, there's plenty of time to practice if you want to give someone else a go. X)

It's not my best, and still a work in progress, but you can see where I'm going with it from this. In the actual thing there will be more interesting things happening with the music, like in the real song, and some more harmonies and things, and it won't just drop off at the end, and Jade will have more singing, but that's work for another day.

E: and the whole song will be a major third higher

EE: and of course there will be another verse that the words "void" and "mind" will be incorporated into

EEE: and listen to this on something other than computer speakers. A good pair of headphones or bigger speakers with bass will do. The instrumental part sounds like garbage coming out of small speakers

You really need to get rid of John talking about space, it's a little misleading. Perhaps try "Now I have the strength to do what I'm meant to do" to reference he and his father's mangrit?
And it's a bit... monotonous? There's really no change or build.
I would record how I'm attacking the piece, but I'm getting over wisdom teeth removal.
edit: also, why void and mind? I don't think references to them will be necessary until we reach the trolls?

I agree that the space line is a little bit awkward. Veritas, the reason he's referring to those is because all of the 12 known titles are referenced in lines of the song (I think every other line, excluding a verse or two?)
While I think the idea for the references is cool, it might be smoother to just have John, Rose, Dave, and Jade reference their specific elements in their respective verses. As it is the reference is sort of lost and forces the song into an awkward pattern lyrically. I do really like the harmonies I heard though.

Also, I was going to go through and edit so that all of the lyrics in the OP are posted in the same format as far as font, size, capitalization, etc. are concerned. Any preferences? I like the idea of it being in Courier New because it sets it apart from the rest of the text, but I'd like to know what's most legible to everyone else.

Well, they could mostly be converted into accents or speech things.
Sollux should have a lisp, Eridan should have a weird accent around his v's and w's, and Feferi might stretch out her e's a bit, maybe.

I think that, in a script, everything should just be written phonetically, so like thith, rather than thii2.

Para, I really like what you've got going! I personally like the casual references to the elements, but I have to agree that some are more casual than others. The harmonies, though. YES. And I actually kinda liked the whole cut-off thing, if only cuz I'm imagining it on a stage (even though it's not bluh bluh), and that kind of thing is likely to draw people's attention to her as a character. Like, "Oh, she's important like that-- WAIT I NEED MORE INFO!" So, that's just me, but the other ideas sound cool too, so, yeah...

pM: I think it'd be cool to have the quirks in the script! As long as when people talk they're prevalent. Not sure how some of them will translate (Terezi's 314, for instance), but for those of us reading it, the quirks will make it seem more authentic. As to the lyrics, whatever works I'm good with. The color coding is perfect, especially in multi-character songs, but I can read most (STANDARD) fonts. Just, no SYMBOL fonts or something silly. Unless it's a Kernelsprite song.

Lacerta: I'm not sure how we're doing exiles yet? We were thinking a dance chorus when we were planning for stage, but since that's kinda out of the question as of now, we'll need to contemplate that some more... Though, you're more than welcome to audition, if you really want to!
