God, that is amazing. I hope you'll be able to actively lift that. :x Really looks like a real chore to try to move around with it.

Actually, by my rough calculations, it would weigh around 50 pounds. It would not break bones simply by lifting it, but rather from the shock of hitting it into something hard (like a tree).

    I find it rather hilarious.

You know, the whole you would break your bones with 30 pounds thing.

30 pounds is thirty pounds. Regardless of the material. :S

It's like what's heavier, 30 pounds of air, or 30 pounds of gold?

The air. Gold is usually measured in pounds troy and 30 pounds troy amount to only 24 pounds 10.97 ounces avoirdupois.

I said 'pure steel'. A regular sword was never made of simply steel, or it would be much too heavy to be very useful. It was mixed with copper or aluminium to make it easier to swing.

ok so it's not made out of gold, so really no worries in the 'grand weigh in' section of things. I will be sure to get you guys an accurate number when this thing is done. Won't be weird at all walking into my local gym, putting this on the weigh scale, nodding my head and then leaving.

I guess years of, let's say, tinkering? finally paid off, and still has yet to pay off. Also I got the final song list which can be voted on HERE or even here cause apparently I done goofed with this thread. At least I can make as many polls as I want with this site.

Awesomeness aside, go vote, suggest shit (preferably here) and be safe out there?

Cool HOLY FUCK, GO STRAIGHT TO THIS ONE

Ok, so here is the last update I might do for a while since I got this thing pretty much completed (98%?). I'll include a list of to-do-ery at the bottom with spoilers? Going back to school next week , therefore, I will not have that much time anymore (ironically enough, I AM building a time travelling sword >.>). Anyway here are the updates and what not.

I just found me a new background (NO SPOILER?):

    http://imgur.com/tmUVO

    Face Value:

    http://imgur.com/rF2lF

    It glows in the dark:

    This one is LEGIT:

    http://imgur.com/APPff

Ahhhhh, what the hell, DEM ANGLES:

    http://imgur.com/mmcwe

Ironically enough I will not be putting my spoiler list on spoiler brackets, just for, you know....sense making?

    To Do List:
    1. LED Strips somewhere (Yes there will be LED's eventually other than the buttons)
    2. Paint Touch Ups
    3. More Stabalizing
    4. Rubber tip for mad protection
    5. Time altering device

THIS WHOLE BLOCK OF TEXT IS A LINK TO THE FULL ALBUM PEOPLE. SERIOUSLY.

Anyway, I'll still be around, but I won't have as much free time for dicking around in things I actually want to be doing. Also here are some statistics:

Sword took roughly 200+ hours to make
I estimate 10 hours were spent on sanding
    Weighs approx. 30lbs
Functional mixer minus the Jog Wheels (for now)
If I think of anymore I will add zem

Side Note: Will be at Anime North all 3 days this year so make sure to stop me and say hi or something. Also slap hamtaro on the back of the head or something. I will be playing requests.

Thank you everyone for supporting me and contributing to this thread, especially those of you who have been around since the start. I said it was going to be more than a prop, and it is. I do think this is the ultimate Dave cosplaying sword and I would hate to be selfish and keep it to myself...I might discuss something further in the future. Till then I'll be around so if you have any questions for me, don't hesitate to ask. And hey, for a prototype this thing isn't too bad if I do say so myself. I'm rambling on here so I will say my goodbyes now. oh and HAPPY FUCKING BIRTHDAY TO ME? 2 days early though, funny how that worked out.

    VIDEO COMING SOON

Hopy shit. Wow, that is simply awesome, especially the fourth picture. It really shows just how much work you have put into this. I'm happy I could make some suggestions and be there to see it before it was finished. I'm excited to meet you at AN. I swear I will sibling-hug you. You will have a Rose gushing over Caledscratch.

How do I like this? (Y) <~close enough? Or wait, you can do THIS

Yeah, if anything it was you guys that kept me going because, well, I wanted to give up at some points because I realized I wasn't where I wanted to be by the end of the week and the stress deprived me of sleep and food consumptioning. I assume the pressure and time consumption is what killed the other guy that attempted to make one (either that or he successfully implemented a time travelling device in his sword). All and all, I'm just happy that I finally got to a place I can acceptably call "finished". And yes, I actually mean the thank you this time as I really couldn't have done it without the support. Srsly.

Then I can only return the high-five.

At first, I didn't thought the project would really end. It was much too big for what I thought was possible. I think when I saw the motherboard was probably the moment where I went 'mother of god, this is serious'. And I can say that it was great to see it evolve and really take form. I'm sure I never saw someone taking what was just a prop to such a level.

Now we need a pic of you wielding it.
tumbl with me "El-ahrairah, your people cannot rule the world, for I will not have it so. All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

Once I get my hair unmessed up I will be sure to. I might try and get as many pictures from anime north this year as possible (which is in like a month).

This one builds up kind of nicely, and I believe that everything after 1:10 qualifies as epic, most certainly as it nears the end.
I do like this song, but it never really peaks at any point except kind of at 0:23. ... I need something that is punchy, electric, techno, with many peaks and drops. ... This song, however, is about the perfect freaking length, believe it or not.
The last 30 seconds sound really peaky and climactic to me. But I do take a lot of drugs, so maybe that has tainted my perception and made the song sound like more of an epic or dramatic and involving rollercoaster experience than it really is.

Time on my side is also good though, especially in the flash.

It depends whether or not you were on the drugs when you were listening to the song, that is. I think both songs are great but, using your words, maybe my perception of music is tainted due to my limited use of 'music enhancing substances' and the fact that I am a part time musician. I'm very picky and making the right choice is very difficult for me.

Has anyone asked for a guide on how to as awesome as you? Although I will settle for instructions on how to build this masterpiece.

People have asked for tips, but I assume if they are anything like me they would use my build as more of a guideline. Instructions on the whole thing might take me a while plus I am in school right now for the next 3 and a half months so it will have to wait until then I am afraid. I honestly do not think I could do a cut back version of this build because I feel as if everything is a necessity to the final product. If people are serious about it I will put something on instructables come next fall. I have yet to get more than 2 requests, however.

Just a guide to the electronics would suffice. I'm certain I could handle the woodworking part.

This is honestly one of the coolest things I've seen in a while! I do similar projects to this (though MUCH less complex) and the amount of work it must've taken to get to this level of detail just blows my mind.

Quite so indeed. I'm only going to ask this once: are you sure you want the guide to the electronics? It is not so much that it is hard, but rather tedious and a lot of the time I screwed up and had to solder a connection to the other end of the trace on the PCB. Basically I was extending the traces with wire, but I can get you a guide to what I used and how I implemented it.

That makes two of us. I envy past me for having so much spare time to do things I actually enjoy doing...

I'm sure. My soldering skills are up to snuff, I just need to be shown what and where to solder. And tedious is fine as I'll in all likelihood spread it over 2 or so weeks rather than do it all in one go.
