Thread: Snow

    Snow

SNOWY SNOWY SNOW. London is currently covered in this strange white stuff.
Which is odd, considering it NEVER SNOWS HERE.

So, how about that snow discussion then? Is it snowing where you are? What type of snow is it? Are there people dying of hypothermia or people making snowmen? Snow? SNOW SNOW SNOW? SNOWY SNOWY SNOWY HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THIS STUFF IT'S ALL WHITE AND SHIT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON.

London completely shuts down at even the mere mention of snow, seeing how it's so damn rare. It's much cheaper to say "fuck this, im out" than it is to maintain a snow force for the whole year.
    Unfortunately it's sunday.
    Hm.
    So nothing much changed.

    HOW ABOUT THAT SNOW, THEN?

Yes! Snowed-in Brit-girl here. I so want to make as Snowman snowman. If that makes sense.

    Re: Snow

People in my city's reaction to snow:
"What's that white thing? I've never seen it before! Is it going to kill us? I think it is. WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO? AAAAAAAAUUUGGGHH!!!"

    How often we get snow:
About five or six times a year.

    Re: Snow

My little town pretty much shuts down in the snow. There's a lot of snow and it's pretty inconsistent. Sometimes there's no snow, next year we have six inches for a week. Got some funny looks from the people who can still drive around, walking to the PO box with a Slurpee.

Saw a few kids playing in the snow, but I think most of them prefer to play vidya games inside these days.

It's snow. You're children. You do your job and pelt eachother with icechunks.

Norwich is blanketed, it's amazing. First time all winter.

Unfortunately I've got a train journey tomorrow, and snow is really not the kind of weather you want to be travelling in in this country...

The North remains predictably snow-free, it probably doesn't help that I'm on the west coast, but still

    Re: Snow

I got snow in late January, if I recall correctly, and it's all gone by now with no sign of any more falling this season

It's a real shame too, because there are like four really good sledding hills within walking distance of my house.

    Re: Snow

I woke up to even more snow today. It's about 20 cm now, but it's better than the sludge we had yesterday. It's been snowing for a couple of weeks, which is somewhat unusual, as well as the low temperatures. At least it's really beautiful outside... Painfully beautiful - I still have a huge bruise on my knee from slipping on the ice... while I was running after my tram. >.>

    Re: Snow

I am safe from the menace and I can walk outside in a t-shirt.

Snow is an evil, evil substance and I'd probably be content never seeing it again in my life, but I'm moving northward again this year to otherwise great ends, so this is probably not meant to be.

    Re: Snow

I'm an Alabamian so I hardly know what it means to experience this strange phenomena you northerners call "snow." Last December I believe we got one or two inches... the city took a sudden downward spiral into chaos; blood stains decorated the snow as people rioted, questioning the god who would bring such wrought upon them. It was anarchy! Some tried to get away, but they were not successful in passing the cannibalistic crowds that were now de facto authority. Smarter ones stayed locked in.

Myself... I went outside in half my body weight's worth of jackets and slid down the driveway on my belly with a friend and my sisters.

Also things are okay in Birmingham now, everyone calmed down once we realized it was natural.

    Re: Snow

My town almost never gets snow, it's really depressing. Instead we get like two inches of ice on our roads making it impossible to walk. Not to mention half the town doesn't know how to drive on ice, and claims it's because of "black ice" (total bullshit). The one time we got snow this year was on finals week, so instead of enjoying it and sledding down a huge hill I was cramming for AP US History.

I live in Canaderp. Snow is just some mild annoyance.

Also, black ice is not bullshit. It is if people are like "Duh black ice duh!" when driving on snow but all conditions clear and you start drifting like you were in a Fast and the Furious movie without making any motions towards that at all? Not cool. Definitely not cool.

I live in Canada as well. And I fucking hate snow. It is the worst thing ever invented. It slows you down and it sticks to you and makes you cold AND wet. It's evil.

    Re: Snow

Well at least where you guys live in Canada have snow, it's been like, 4C every day here. And when it goes below zero there is ice but not snow.

Yeah, people say that when it's totally obvious there's ice all over the roads. In my opinion they totally should have seen it coming. The only time I find it acceptable is if there isn't snow or ice anywhere else, or you're driving on/near a bridge or something.

    Re: Snow

I don't like snow for pretty much the same reasons as Vark. Looks nice though. This winter is unseasonably warm, we have had only 2 weeks of actual winter where windchill was -47C for a while but right now we are swinging between +1C and -10C with very little snow. I am quite happy.

My city never shuts down in snow. It was -40 something and snowing really hard but everything was still running because we are not a pansies.

    Re: Snow

I used to live in a small town west of London (Reading (pronounced redding)) and in the winter the roads would be completely covered in ice. Sane people just stayed indoors, slightly less sane people equipped those tire grippy things to their cars and drove, even less sane people got really grippy shoes.

I, of course, slid around on my belly.

My locale got dumped with about a foot of snow on Thursday night and another on Friday. It's still about 2 feet deep in the shallow areas. It's kind of awesome.

Imagine an ice giant taking a dump over everything. That is snow. now add in mud and salt and slosh it up until it has the consistency of diarrhea. We've had a freakishly warm winter where I live, and I'm thankful for it. But then again, I wouldn't trade it for living in a place that gets no snow, because then everything would be too hot.

    Re: Snow

it's like very clumpy freezing cold sticky wet firm sand. Trust me, you are not missing anything. Snowball fights are no fun because it takes hours just to get a small snow fort up, making a snowman does not work because the snow is all lumpy as you roll it, sledding is pretty great, but you got to make a long climb to get to the top and when you fall you get covered in it, skiing is too intense for me*, and frankly the best thing is just sitting by the fireplace with a lukewarm can of coke, then taking a hot shower, then getting into PJs and playing vidya games.

I am so thankful for the freakishly warm winter. It's like, 4C here as well, and there is no snow in sight.

This is one of the few reasons I'm glad to live in L.A. It is the middle of winter and it is pretty much beach weather.

The band once played in a winter parade at Tahoe (elevation 1897 m) and afterwards we were romping in the four-foot-deep snowbanks outside a grocery store. Remarks from one snow-jaded NorCal native: "You know how I know you're tourists? You're playing in the snow in a Savemart parking lot."

    Re: Snow

We had some for about a week here in Michigan and then it all melted again.

I kind of miss it, but at the same time I usually get tired of it pretty quickly.
