I haven't actually gotten them in game, but having read the script, both the Alec-Sylvia and the Lachesis-Dew lovers convo in Ch. 5 of 4 are hilarious.

But...FE4 introduced all the ridiculous mechanics we know and love! And the ones we hate!

Wasn't FE5 supposed to be another segment of FE4? Or was that something different?

It is.
I guess they must think about the second game when writing the plot for a new setting, so it's normal they plan stuff in advance in the first of the two games. Sort of like those character who were introduced in Path of Radiance, but didn't do anything until the next game (like the guy who turn out to be the black knight /can't remember his name).
3dswop: also one of the best quotes from FE8 (imo) comes from the Eliwood-Ninian C-rank convo:
Eliwood: "Ah, I know! Next time you're free, show me your dancing! not one of the little dances - something special."
Ninian: "a 'special' dance milord?"
Eliwood: "Er... sorry, didn't mean to sound too forward!"
...I mainly find it funny because the immediate connotation I get out of it is Ninian thought Eliwood was asking for a lap dance.
heh.
Hawkeye x Rath A support is my favorite
I'm mostly familiar with the GBA titles which sort of makes me wonder why I picked one for that thread (which I completely forgot I was doing. I should prrrrrrobably subscribe to it.) And a single playthrough of 4/5/Shadow Dragon, not recalling much about any of 'em. But for those GBA titles I've spent some time dicking around the "competitive" community, both reading it and talking out of my ass about it.
So though it seems like everyone else here is probably already familiar with the school of thought, my angle on the paladins > everything perspective in a hopefully nonparticularlyconfrontational manner:
...eh, true, but fuck ranked runs. Personally I just really don't like paladins when both wyvern lords and Falcoknights outclass them in more than a few ways. I mean sure, Paladins save time and such, but... in general that's most of what they're for in the first place, really. they're supposed to be the balanced mounted units. praising paladins for doing that is like being impressed the square peg fits in the square hole
also Great Knight sucks so much in comparison to paladins, hahaha...
I just like my Swordmasters. Joshua, Guy, and Karel FUCKYEAAAAAH. I'd say Mist and Stefan too but swordmasters in PoR and Radiant Dawn were bullshit because Astra is op
then again so were 99% of the skills in that game. same goes for Sacred Stones. seriously any ability that wasn't totally useless *coughSureShotcough* was just plain OP. excluding Silencer. obviously.
It's just that, in that analogy, fitting the square hole is how you achieve the only two measurable goals. It's not exactly praising. Paladins just tend to end up contributing more to the war effort over the course of the game. I'm pretty sure when I S-ranked Hector Hard Mode, Kent/Sain ended up with at least 50 more kills than anyone else, each, simply because they got there first and I needed to clear a path for Florina to ferry Hector to the throne. I think that wound up fucking with my EXP rank, though, so meh.
THAT ASIDE. I will gladly grant you that Paladins are going to suck ass in any competition of what class is coolest. That trophy goes to Super Recruit, hands down.
Also, yes. Lol Sureshot.
Sureshot.
Oh gosh my 100 hit chance is now.... 100!
How could I forget about Canas-Vaida supports. Those were gold, even if they you know... took forever to actually happen.
Also, most of Merlinus' stuff. I was actually surprised how funny his supports with Marcus are.
I'm terrible with getting support convos but isn't it a given that Wallace is hilarious?
It's dependent on how your lords are leveled - if combined, they're over 50, you get Linus' chapter and Geitz - if not, Lloyd and Wallace. Obviously, you want them pretty high (especially since you get one of the Heaven Seals in the next chapter, so one of your lords should be near 20).
Oh, see, this explains why I never saw Wallace again after, I think, my second run of the game. I never understood what caused that, thought it was just doing Hector's story. Poor Wallace. Never used Geitz though I hear he isn't bad at all.
yeah after I discovered arena grinding I never saw Wallace again... haha....
Actually Arena Grinding is why I hate ranked runs, I always fail to resist temptation and fuck my tactics score over big time by spending 100+ turns just sitting there, fighting. on the plus side, since you can have (minimum) 2 guiding rings, a hero crest, a knight crest all by chapter uh... it's 22 right (New Resolve), and get an elysian whip in the top right corner, you can realistically have any one of Guy Swordmaster/Raven Hero/Bartre Warrior, any two of Erk Sage/Lucius Bishop/Canas Druid/Serra Bishop/Priscilla Valkyrie, any one of Sain Paladin/Kent Paladin/Lowen Paladin/Oswin General, either Florina or other-female-pegasus-knight-I-never-use Falcoknight, and any other units you want that can't class change levelled to 20.
plus ton's of cash.
actually you could honestly level a character from lvl 1 first tier class to lvl 20 promoted by the end of New Resolve. and then you get ANOTHER arena one to two chapters later-ish, with secret shop selling ocean seals (Dart Berserker) and an earth seal down in the bottom right... it's just so tempting...
also arena grinding without save states is addictive. it's like gambling on the speed of your trigger finger. or thumb. w/e
Time for me to try to play Sacred Stones.
Poor Wallace. His downfall was how much he blows.
