You stand frozen for a moment, not certain what to do. After a while of nothing happening, you conclude that if he was going to slit your throat, he'd have done it by now. However, sudden movements or attempting a counterattack right now might set him off. Unwilling to simply sit back and wait, you decide to see if you can diffuse this situation in a calm manner.

Dialog:

Paddlefoot's shout is loud enough to cause the house to shake this time. It disorients both you and the Ragman, causing him to loosen his grip.

> Kaylyn: Abscond the heeell out of there.

You pull yourself free, which causes him to raise his knife in retaliation. Well, calm and collected didn't work. How about running like hell?

There's only one problem: you have no clue where the door is.

In all likelihood, it's hidden behind one of the rags hanging on the wall, but you don't exactly have the time to patiently check behind each one. The only ways out appear to be the door that leads to the bedroom (a dead end, you remember from being in there a few minutes ago) and the window, which is currently on the other side of a knife wielding maniac.

You stumble backwards away from the rusted metal, into a corner. You notice something lying of the floor to your left. The controller. You suppose he must have put it out of the way for when you woke up, before he decided you weren't you and grabbed a knife. You have no idea what it could do here, but right now something would be a lot better than nothing.

You also notice that at somepoint, either when the Ragman grabbed one or when Paddlefoot shook the house, a knife landed on the floor to your right. You could use that to convince him you're not worth attacking, but if it actually comes down to a fight... Well, you've never been in as much as a schoolyard scuffle. You don't know how you would do in an actual knife fight.

The Ragman approaches quickly, you'll only have enough time to dive for one. What should you do?

You dive to your left, barely avoiding the Ragman. You attempt a YOUTH ROLL, but in your panicked state it really only amounts to THROWING YOUSELF TO THE FLOOR AND SCRAMBLING AWAY.

You reach the controller as the Ragman turns to charge you again.

>Kaylyn: Hope this world works like Captain N.

You have no idea what Captain N. is, but that is besides the point. You need to figure out how this thing can be useful. You press random buttons to no avail, growing more regretful that you chose this over the knife as the Ragman approaches. As he charges, you press the Start button, hoping it will somehow pause the world.

It doesn't, but an ethereal screen appears and floats before you. It is transulscent blue, and despite its appearance is actually quite solid.

A fact you discover as the Ragmam barrels into it. He falls backwards onto the floor, though the pile of rags on his back causes him to quickly fall to his side. The knife clatters across the room, knocked from his grip. You ready yourself to run for the window, but stop when you find that he remains motionless on the floor.

While every fibre of your being is screaming at you to meddlehelp further, you can't risk that he's simply playing dead to get a better-

Is he crying?

His shoulders shake and you can definitely hear sobs.

Yep. Crying.

You helpful nature rebels against you, but you manage to convince yourself that they are crocodile tears. Even if they aren't, you now know from personal experience that this guy's mood can change in a blink of an eye, so sticking around is probably not a good idea. You move, and noticing that the screen moves with you, find it not too difficult to keep it between him and you.

You slowly make your way towards the window, never turning your back on the Ragman, stopping only to avoid stepping on Paddlefoot.

Dialog:

You wonder for a moment whether or not it would be a good idea to take Paddlefoot along. With some difficulty, you decide against it. You may not be a psychologist, but you have to imagine talking to somebody would be healthy for the Ragman, even if that somebody was a talking rubber chicken. You bid Paddlefoot goodbye, and noticing that your attacker is beginning to stir, hop out the window and run as fast as your legs will take you.

You run for quite some time before slowing down. You hardly noticed while fleeing, but looking around now you are surrounded by trees.

Which are making faces at you.

You find this fact somewhat disturbing.

Right.

You are doing this.

You are making this happen.

You are going to leave the Cave.

For the first time in as far back as you care to remember.

You are-

Wait.

You get the sneaking suspicion that you are being watched.

...

You are now suffering from an increadible case of STAGE FRIGHT.

You think you will stay in the Cave for a bit longer.

You are now Chester. You have since gotten up from your totally not a nap on the ground, and resumed exploring. Thus far, you have discovered that despite following the game's instructions, you are still being accosted by those damn trees. You have also recently heard a loud noise of indistinct origin, loud enough to have caused the ground to shake ever so slightly.

You are currently wondering whether you should head towards it to investigate or away from it to remain safe.

You resolve to investigate the source of the noise. After all what scientist would run after just a little explosion. That would be like a farmer who was terrified of plants, that is, you wouldn't get very far running away from something so common in your field.

Your decision propels you along for some time in silence. You haven't discarded the possiblity that this explosion was Gremlin-caused, or at least caused by an entity that wishes you harm, so you endevour to be prepared for a fight and draw as little attention to yourself as possible.

Listening ahead, there is obviously someone not taking these precautions. You approach carefully, until you see the familiar blue glow of a menu through the trees.

Dialog:
"Liz?"

A moment passes before you here a reply.

"Cheeester?"

Oh Jove damn it.

You wouldn't exactly call this a reunion. That implies a sort of friendliness, or at least familiarity. You are really not all that familiar with Kaylyn, knowing her mostly through friends like Henrick and Liz. And that little bit of familiarity you do have with her doesn't exactly do much to endear her to you. So you wouldn't call this a reunion. Rather, you would call it the meeting between two individuals who have previous knowledge of the other's existance and a passing knowledge of their general disposition and personality.

Well if that isn't a mouthful. Reunion it is then.

You approach the place where Kaylyn's voice came from and discover her some distance away, out of breath and persued by her screen.

Thankfully, you are spared having to explain what happened by the text that pops up on Kaylyn's screen.

Well, you are currently standing. That takes care of one thing.

Well.

It appears that you are having some difficulty opening your eyes.

Or really moving any other part of your body.

You try to scream, but your vocal cords are not being any more responsive than any other part of your body.

Apparently that doesn't stop someone from hearing you, however.

Spiritlog:

You experience a feeling that you can't quite describe but are going to try to anyway. It feels like a garment being taken off... except inside out. Like that feeling, except inside, except without all the painful and mess implications.

Yeah, well you did say it was pretty hard to describe.

You open your eyes, relieved that your body is yours once again. It appears that you are still in the Village of Gravestones and Whispers, although not where you fell asleep, and in front of you stands, or rather floats, something that looks like a small sillouette, of what you are not quite sure, made of flame.

You look at this thing for about a second before pain makes itself known throughout your body and you collapse.
