Re: Recursion of Fate[TEXT] (Arm Thyself!)

    >Jon: Look for other odd contact names.

You scroll through the contacts and find that Victoria seems to have never used anyone's actual names when making them. You see The Troubadour (which you know is Geoffry's number) and the Charlatan (Chester's, or maybe his girlfriend's given who answered). The rest are just as odd, and only a small handful actually have numbers attached to them. Others with an assigned number are The Messanger, The Keeper, The Arbiter, The Alchemist, and The Warrior. The list of contacts without an assigned number is larger, and include even more enigmatic titles, such as The Watcher, The Wanderer, The Reaper, The Goddess, The Dreamer, The Betrayer, and more.

    >Jon: Text all her friends silly messages.

As the car begins to pull away from the side of the road and continue its trip, you decide to engage in that most sacred tradition: prank calls. You obviously can't phone them, they would know right away that it wasn't her, but thankfully her phone also has a mobile Pesterchum app. And she's still logged in. Time to wreak some havoc.

    Pesterlog:

    Well, that was horribly disappointing.

Re: Recursion of Fate[TEXT] (Arm Thyself!)

    >Victoria: Wake.

You lie d0wn am()@#*U&ngst the broken forms of your friends, old &Nlkjnd new alike. Tears run down you(|\&*(& cheeks, mingling with blo@#$@#$#$%#@%)_@)#$

The1{{{|*(&r faces look at you. Pleading. Acc$()^*&ing. Faces frozen in agony, all because you #$@)$#%$

It doesn't have to end like this.

The voice. The one that #@$%

You can save them. You know what to do.

    Slowly you rise and @#($*@)(@_#$@@-

You awaken to the sound of rain beating against the car's window. You don't even remember falling asleep, but you vividly remember the dream. Of all your visions, that is the one you've seen the most. It is the one that drives you.

You still do not know what that voice means. Despite all the knowledge that your visions provide, you still have no idea what to do. Worse, every time you act you cannot help but think that somehow you are simply going to make everything worse.

You turn to look at Jon. He is giggling in the other window seat, playing with your phone. You reach an arm over, and he returns it to you with a look of disappointment. You really don't want to think about what he was doing or what sort of damage he has caused by impersonating you (no you didn't have a vision about that, you just know how these tropes play out sometimes).

You don't have time to think about that anyway. Without even looking, you realize that you have reached your destination.

    >Geoffry: Arrive already.

Finally. It feels as though this drive has taken far too long. You turn the street and after a moment to recall which house was Chester's, you pull into the suspiciously empty driveway. With a twist of the keys the engine dies, the gentle rumble that you had barely even been registering made silent. For a moment there is nothing but the sound of the rain against the roof of the vehicle. You turn to tell your passengers that you've arrived.

And then the world turns to fire.

Something crashed through the front windshield. Several somethings, in fact, all of them hot, but the something your are refering to strikes you in the face with quite some force, causing your ears to ring and your eyes to blur. Some small part of your mind figures that the explosion must have originated in the house, partially because the force pushes your vehicle directly backwards and upwards. The other piece of evidence makes its way into your mind through dim, clouded eyes you look towards the crater where an ordinary suburban house once stood.

Victoria. Trust a gentleman's first thought to be of the lady while the rest of his mind goes black. You try to turn your head to see if she and Jon are alright, noticing that somehow the car has flipped onto the passenger side. Eventually you give up, you're having too much difficulty seeing in any case. You resign yourself to hang from your seat by your seatbelt as the blackness begins to take you.

As you loose consciousness, you think that you hear the door beside you open, and a voice.

"DAMMIT MAN, THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE LET ME HANDLE IT"

    And then there is nothing.

Re: Recursion of Fate[TEXT] (Arm Thyself!)

    >Erik: Turn car upright.

Yeah, you might be strong, but you are definitely not strong enough to do that without a major adreneline boost. Besides, you really don't care about the car so much as the guy in the driver's seat, so you settle for dragging his sorry ass out of the wreckage.

You brush him off and hide him somewhere safe, because there's no telling if whoever set the explosive might come back to finish what they started. Then you get to work, climbing back onto the overturned vehicle and opening the door to the back seat. The kid is closest to you, the one that Geoffry was complaining about earlier. You have to think that if he'd just stopped to let you deal with the brat, he might not have been here to be caught up in the explosion. Well, you think as you unbuckle the unconscious eleven year old and watch him fall, its not like you actually cared about the kid in any case, you were just trying to be a good friend.

You climb into the car roll the kid off of the second passenger, Victoria. It's been a long time since you've seen her. Careful not to wake her, you run a hand softly over her green hair. It was red, or maybe purple, last time you saw it. You have to admit that green is more her color. A smile creeps over your face as you unbuckle her and gently lift her out of the car. The kid can go suck a lemon as far as you're concerned, and both Vicky and Geof just met him, so you doubt they've gotten too attached yet. Vicky, on the other hand, is one of Geof's oldest friends, and you'd be remiss if you didn't do something for her. Ensuring once again that Geoffry is well hidden, you drag the unconscious girl off.

If you were the sort to justify your actions, you might say that you are choosing to get the most injured party out of the way first. Or that you are honoring Geoffry's gentleman's oath or whatever it is. But really, both of these would be lies.

And while you've been called many things (dangerous, psychotic, sociopath, and worse), no one could ever call you a liar.

You are taking Victoria off because you know that Geoffry wouldn't approve of what you've got planned. But really, what he doesn't know won't hurt him.

    >Henrick: What have we missed?

You are now Henrick some minutes before the most recent disaster at Chester's house. Lindsay has gone to answer a telephone call, Chester and Kaylyn seem to be doing pretty well without your help, and even Liz seems fine, resting among the giant tombstone with the strange fire spirit to watch over her. So after a little while of being bored, you decide to focus on a sound that has been on the periphery of your consciousness for some time now, a bizarre hissing. With everything that has been going on, the most attention that has been paid to it was Lindsay wondering aloud what it was. Now that you have a moment of calm, you decide to go investigate.

It doesn't take long to find the source of the sound. Actually focusing on it, you can easily tell it's coming from somewhere in Chester's lab. You walk through the open door, knowing that Chester will give you hell for this later, and fix your eyes on the source of the noise.

It is the package. The package that was being carried by the little man who broke in, that had fallen down the stairs and apparently into the lab in the ensuing chaos. Because that didn't stop being a thing that happened.

You examine it closely. It is a small cube shaped box, with a slightly irregular shape on its top. It is loosely wrapped in what appears to be blue, rabbit themed wrapping paper and topped with a pink bow. As you come closer to investigate the sound, you notice two changes: one, that the air immediatly surrounding the box is now host to some strange, foreign smell, and two, a second noise has joined the first you noticed.

That noise being a faint ticking.

You are beginning to get an idea what this thing is, and you're pretty sure its not an alarm clock.

You call up to Lindsay in something of a panic. Thankfully, the phone call she recieved doesn't seem too important, and she comes downstairs promptly.

    Dialog:

You run into the game's room and almost trip over the coffee table in your haste. Eventually, you are able to get your bearings and grab the controller.

    >Henrick: Be SQ

You are now a nervous sixteen year old boy who is looking around an overly used room with suspicion. You are currently in something of a mild PANIC ATTACK over a bizarre message you have recieved over Pesterchum. Your black hair is a mess, complementing the crazed look in your face, and you are wearing an outfit that would probably make Kaylyn curl up and die a little inside if she saw it.

What is this fearful youth's name?

Re: Recursion of Fate[TEXT] (Bomb technicians they are not)

    >Hershel Crescel

You are now HERSHEL CRESCEL, a sixteen year old boy dressed in an outfit that looks as though it was picked by someone without any sense of fashion or even a basic concept of color coordination. As has been stated, you are in the middle of a mild PANIC ATTACK, and have backed into the nearest corner you can and curled up in an attempt to feel safe. Your eyes refuse to remain focused on any one spot for fear of missing a potential threat, you body shakes uncontrollably, and you are hyperventilating so quickly it is a marvel that you haven't passed out yet.

This is not an entirely uncommon situation for you. You are FAIRLY PARANOID and suffer from AGORAPHOBIA, which is not a winning combination. This is also the reason you have never in recent memory left the basement suite of your parent's house, lovingly dubbed "The Cave". Because you're parents are understanding of your condition, the Cave is outfitted with most everything you could need for survival and then some, so you suppose that isn't too much of a loss.

When you are not having bouts of irrational terror, you interests are many and varied. You are fairly well versed in PROGRAMMING and COMPUTERS, though you cannot be said to be an expert in those fields. You are also intrigued in all things MYSTICAL, OCCULT, or ESOTERIC. Your particular focus of attention changes every couple of months, and you have yet to find your next mystery to delve into. It is your lifelong dream to blend MAGIC with COMPUTING, where programs are laced with spells to improve their efficiency. You have yet to see any success in this field.

You have several other skills. Being isolated from the majority of the outside world, you have become VERY SELF SUFFICIENT. You can COOK, SEW, and have some skill in HOME REPAIR. You mostly gain these skills from sources online. The internet being what it is, you have picked up other skills and knowledge, much of it of DUBIOUS USEFULNESS. For example, you know how to find water in the desert, can theoretically navigate by the stars, and know the layout of Berlin like the back of your hand. You can also name every reigning monarch of England since 1400, and can almost fluently speak Tolkien's Elvish (properly, Sindarin). You consider yourself a CAUTIOUS SEEKER OF KNOWLEDGE, while most everyone else considers you a NEUROTIC FOUNT OF USELESS INFORMATION.

You are currently sitting in the northeast corner of the Cave. To your right, on the north wall, are your various ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT DEVICES, which include a your COMPUTER (sitting unused since you recieved a very disturbing pester from one of your chums), and a FLATSCREEN TELEVISION connected to various gaming systems. Currently, the GAMESPHERE is turned on, and if you were in any condition to observe it, you would notice that the copy of SMyth that you recieved in the mail a few days ago has finally finished loading. The east wall, to your left, is host to the PRACTICAL DEVICES of the Cave, such as a REFRIDGERATOR stocked with EXCEPTIONALLY HEALTHY FOOD, a WASHING MACHINE, a STOVE/OVEN, and perhaps most importantly the DOOR TO THE WASHROOM. The south wall has to pieces of furnature: a COUCH where you can comfortably sit while watching television or play a game, and your BED, currently sporting DR. STRANGE bedsheets. The western wall is the one that stands out most, with a desk covered in various scraps of paper, all of them detailing ARCANE RITUALS or MYSTIC KNOWLEDGE in an alphabet than no one else can read because YOU MADE IT UP. Posters on this wall feature MAGICAL FORMULAS and LINES OF CODE, and you clumsy attempts to MARRY THE TWO.

You seem to have calmed down somewhat. That is, you are finally able to uncurl yourself from your pseudo-fetal position and move about the Cave. You have manage to mostly convince yourself that you are not being watched, though you are still nervous and unable to stop shaking.

    What do you do?

    >Hershel: Recieve yet another disturbing message.

You notice another chat window has opened on your computer. Another one of your chums is pestering you. You hope that another one of your internet friends (why you prefix that with "internet" is anyone's guess, since its really the only type of friend you have) hasn't been replaced with a body snatcher or something.

No. No. No, Victoria's account was probably just hacked, you tell yourself in an attempt to calm your nerves. You have limited success, but you do manage to make it to the computer and open the chat window.

    Pesterlog:

Lindsay explains quickly, and while she leaves some major gaps in information, she manages to get the basic idea across: Chester, Liz, and Kaylyn have been sucked into the SMyth game, Lindsay and Henrick are helping them from the outside, and someone appears to be trying to kill them all. If you were anyone else you would think she was making it up. You do not however, because you believe in MAGIC and can fully accept that people who play a game disappear into thin air. In fact, your a little mad that someone beat you to putting magic on a disk.

    >Hershel: Investigate new game.

Well, since it appears that disabling the bomb is too risky a procedure; maybe if you were there doing it yourself with all the pressure on you and everybody watching and we are getting off this train of thought right here.

Anyway, disabling an explosive you know nothing about is out of the question. Next on the list is trying to ensure that the game world will survive the destruction of the (possibly) host machine. Without thinking, you look to the television where you notice that your copy of Smyth has finished loading. You find this odd, as with the rate it was going at it should only have just gotten over 50%. The television now shows the title screen with two options: "New game" and "Connect to another session". You know that the Gamesphere has no internet connectivity, but you have a feeling that might not be a problem for a magical game.

Avatar from fanart of my adventure by trulyElse, because I'm self indulgent like that.
The Lemat-o-matic, because I have awesome readers.

    >Connect to Chester's session, which may well be the only one there is. Clearly the existence of sessions implies that an already-started game is one of those, and 'new game' would take you somewhere completely different and unhelpful
Got Portal 2? Come check out my maps, please!

    Active Adventures (awaiting suggestions):
PersonS-like Persona, but not | An Aranor Adventure-high fantasy and adventure | Odd One Out-3 best friends, a kidnapped girl, an evil king, and elves | Beasts-a tale of survival | The Longest Flashback-fantasy noir, or something like that | GUIH-raising a dragon is harder than it sounds. | MageBound-Fantasy+"Stuck" | Creation-wherein the readers are the mind of a universe's omnipotent god
    | The College of Magic-pretty much what it says on the tin
