SESSION 1 IS BEING POSTED HERE

This roleplaying thread was inspired by discussion in the Comic Discussion Thread about a Sburb session with an absolutely preposterous number of players. From it, the idea of MMORPGStuck, which any member of the forum could join, was born. However, those of us with foresight realized that a 248-player session was perhaps biting off more than we could chew, so MMORPGStuck, like all good games, is currently divided into two sessions, one beginning after the other, as explained below.

Session 1 (the ALPHA):

Session 1 is currently in the last stages of pre-planning and will begin shortly. As a practice run, it will stabilize the general rules all sessions will follow, and also examine the difficulty of running an RP with a mere SIXTEEN players. It is closed.

Session 2 (the BETA):

Session 2 is the next session in the process. A link to sign-ups for it are at the bottom. All that the sign-ups currently entail is reserving a spot for yourself as either a player or a GM. Little other information is known at this time.

So, you might be wondering, how is this whole deal orchestrated? Well, here's how it goes:

First, there are the players. They will be divided into groups of four (possibly five if the numbers don't work out right), which function as Red Team and Blue Team did in Hivebent: Acting as a distinct chain at first, but ultimately bridging into two of the other teams to create an overall link.

Second, there are the main GMs. There will be one per group. They will be in charge not of you in particular, but of your entry scenes and your lands, and will present challenges, physical and mental, to anyone within those scenes regardless of group.

Third, there will be two special players (who may also be DMs), in charge of Prospit and Derse. Not the scenes on them, but the actions of the agents and defenders of the two worlds.

Last, there is a Super DM. His word is fucking law, and he coordinates everyone and is in charge of posting the RP after it happens in the IRC.

Well, we're not going to do this on the forum one post after another. It doesn't jibe very well with a GM set-up. Instead, you will meet with your GM in real-time on an IRC server we have (details again are at the bottom), or Pesterchum, or what have you, and work things out there. Because of the nature of this, it also allows you to effortlessly incorporate multiple players.

So how does it get on the forums? You'll take your logs and send them to the Super DM. He'll take things from there, and post everything into one full thread, with all the adventures. All of them.

So how do I prepare for Session 2?

At the moment, you don't, except maybe sprite design. Simply put, nothing else can really be set in stone. Figuring out Titles (your Role and Aspect) will have to come once we know what we're dealing with, same as dream moon. Specibi and Sylladices are being tested in Session 1 and not even canon ones are guaranteed to appear in Session 2. Other things like Land title are up to your DM and are dependent on your personal Title anyway. Even personal color will have some restrictions (allowing people to pick the exact shades they wanted led to a lot of greenish-blues being picked in this session, and we'll need more variety in a larger session just to help keep pesterlogs straight.)

When S2 gets going, players will be able to sign up for available Specibi and Sylladices on a first-come-first-served basis, and may request Titles, and from there Lands. However, they won't be entirely your choice because we'll be dealing with 30+ people and obviously some of you are going to end up without the configurations you want! If you are going to be petty about that, this isn't the right RP for you. At all.

When you do get specibi and sylladices, also be aware that you're only starting with one each. Yes I know Jade had about ten sylladices. Yes I know that Roxy and Equius had two specibi. However, we're aiming for simplicity here.

Then just sign up to be a GM. Keep in mind though, it's a lot of responsibility! You will have to make four or five lands and run them, along with the personal quest for each person you're in control of (the good news there is that they're allowed to contribute, at least). You'll also be dealing with spats and disputes, and it will also be slightly irksome because while you have a lot of power, the Super DM outranks you and is ultimately responsible for final approval of things. Just a warning.

I have a question about a specific detail (time travel, weaponizing sylladices, etc.)
Take those questions to Legendary's Formspring or the FAQ, and if they're not already answered, post them there. He'll get to them quickly.

I'm throwing in my lot for DM. I'm really good at this whole cerebral itty-bitty details thing and forseeing huge plot-lines

EDIT: Mind you, we'll have to split this whole thing up into manageable chunks for several DMs if we get the numbers we were predicting in the discusision, because I would need to forget school altogether in order to take care of hundreds of characters.

Not even Andrew keeps track of that many at one time, since its, well, dumb.

EDIT: 2 I mean the keeping track of thing as a "Giving worlds, Titles, and Deaths" kind of way. And Forseeing huge plotlines in order to be sure all these individual arcs don't fall apart into one big uncoordinated mess.

Other than school, I'm pretty free. And we'll have trouble finding someone who isn't busy in the middle of a weekday, what with high schoolers like myself, university students and adults all busy at that time.

Pesterlogs wouldn't be entirely necessary so when they occured it'd likely be literally ripped from chatlogs of people RPing as themselves

As the plot would be convoluted enough as it is, DM's biggest role is just being able to be there all the time. Writing/ideas are less important than time available to give to the project in this case.

I mean yeah it'd be great to have a DM who's good with those things but they need to be available basically all the time.

The DM would decide things such as the Role of the Client, the Land, Perma-Deaths and Moralities of death. Anything that the DM deems out of line, he can decide that the Client entered a doomed timeline and to restart from point X

The Client would create different obstacles, riddles and the mythology of the Client's Land. Also, they would interpret the Client's Role, (I.E. The Seer of Light can see the events that will lead to a favorable outcome.)

As for pesterlogs: They should be written privately on an actual instant messaging system, then posted on the forums.

I figured that the DM would write out the raw information, such as "You are the ____ of ____, and your land is the Land of ____ and ____," while the Server would actually determine what that actually means to their client.

yeah, that part is good.

It's when the server player starts going "IT SAYS IN THE MYTHOLOGY OF THE NOBLE PIG PEOPLE THAT ONE DAY THE SEER OF HEART WOULD COME DOWN AND SHIP ALL OF THE THINGS" that the DM would need to step in and say "haha no"

I'll admit, I've never done a RP based off an existing work, let alone something this big. I feel kind of nervous, but this sounds so fun, I don't even care!

Also, I'm pretty sure that you can PM any mod to move the thread, as long as he/she is currently online.

I think the DM should be the First Guardian when he isn't entering players into the Medium.

DM would probably use random number generator but certain first players might be preferable due to some circumstances, dream planets or whatever
Also thinking we should split sessions into Humans and Trolls and have them overlap because you just know loads of people are going to want to use fantrolls.
