Thread: Why have a mod approve my posts ?

Why have a mod approve my posts ?

I was trying to help with the Homestrife thing and I sent in multiple posts cause I thought something was wrong because my post wasn't going through. So I posted in quick reply to see if it worked that way. Instead of posting it said. "A mod must approve your post." Is there something wrong with my account or is it only with specific threads? What's up ?

Users with fewer than 15 posts are screened by the spam filter, which sometimes gets false positives if it decides your post looks too much like spam. We periodically clean out the spam filter and approve the legitimate posts.

Can a mod please please please look more often at the posts needing approval?
because i've been flagged a grand total of six times on my short life here, and just now twice in a row. I don't want the people i'm RPing with to ditch!

Ok, better question. Why am i being flagged so often? my friends said they never had this problem. What am i doing that is making the forums hate me so? Did i push its gramma down a well? Suggestions on how to cut down on this shenanigans?

You already have. Past 15 posts it won't flag you. Also, I believe you're more likely to be flagged if you have been flagged before.

Future reference: if you have a post you need approved with haste, just PM any mod that is online.

I'm having this same issue, the spam filter is flagging every other post I make, and the last post that got filtered hasn't been approved for hours. Is there some algorithm to check for certain writing styles, or is it simply looking for certain words or phrases? I'm at a loss as to how or why it's flagging my near-perfect grammar.

Once you have been flagged, it makes your subsequent posts more likely to be flagged. Just graduate to 15 posts, its not that hard.

True, true, I just don't want to go spamming every thread. Already over halfway though, I suppose!

We really don't know the details about it, so the only advice is

    -avoid changing thread titles
-including links increase the chance of being filtered
-don't repeat word-for-word what was said earlier in the thread

For Wigglers with doubts, I'd like to offer a testimonial from personal experience that PMing a mod will absolutely get you swift and courteous results. I myself had to PM Esrever (who certainly had more important things to be dealing with at the time) about post approval when I first joined the forum and not only did he respond and approve in as little as 30minutes, but he was also very generous in his response. So if any of you are afraid that the mods might be too busy to get to your request, don't be! A simple PM really is all it takes.

Another tip, seeing as Forum Adventure newbies often have this same problem due to image-heavy posts: Post suggestions in other adventures. Suggest names, voice your support for a particular course of action, archive binge and extol the author's virtues, whatever.

A good suggestion is invaluable for the author, doesn't require a worddump on your part, and (if you link your fledgling adventure in your signature) can also lead people back to your thread!

I think it has to do with the forum's tendency to sometimes make everyone double-post against their will. Remember guys, "stay on page" and then refresh!

Okay, yay! I am reassured. I thought I had to be approved because I didn't activate my account or something ((which I did, but))... I guess it wouldn't have been a weird theory from my point, my internet kinda has been jumping in the past. Bah, off-topic.

Anyways, I'm glad to hear all I have to do is get past 15 posts. :3

Oh no! I'm trying to work my way to 15 posts but all my suggestions are getting moderated. Eep. This is tougher than I thought it would be XD

Perhaps because my adventure thread was the first one I made (and obviously got moderated, though SleepingOrange was kind enough to help me out and post a suggestion too) I'm not being auto-moderated in the FA forum. Hnnnnnng! 15 posts!

    All right.

What are common span phrases, so I can avoid them for the duration of my WIGGLER membership?

That is way too much effort for 8 more posts, it is very tricky to nail down the filter's standards. I'd say just get yourself out of dodge as soon as you can.

Wait...you mean the best way for me to get around the spam filter is to spam the forum until it realizes my spamming isn't real spam?

Re: Why have a mod approve my posts ?

The best way to get around the spam filter is to post. Not spam, or trolling, or advertising, POSTING.

I honestly can't figure out what makes that so difficult to understand.

I mean that once you have 15 posts, you no longer have to worry about the spam filter. We have so many threads of interest, it really isn't hard to rack up 15 posts.

No, but that's a good way to get banned.

Re: Why have a mod approve my posts ?

I'm going to take a baby step closer to reaching 15 posts by saying thank you for this thread! Now I know what to avoid doing for a little while, I shouldn't be getting snagged at all. UuU
