Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Oooh, a Fire Emblem let's play.

Let's see, random comments on the characters introduced so far.

Eirika's the main character, have to use her, stats like any generic lord blah blah blah.

Seth's probably the best of FE's Oifayes statistically but the game's too easy for you to ever really need him. His affinity and support list is absolutely amazing if you do use him, though.

Gilliam's got nice stats, but the game isn't as kind as FE7 in regards to Knights with their gimped movement, mainly because it's a pretty easy game. In FE7, there were a few enemies that posed enough of a threat that Oswin came in ridiculously handy.

Franz is the best of the cavaliers. If you're doing speed runs, he's one of the best characters.

Moulder is better than he looks at first. His secret lies in that he's the only magic user with anything remotely resembling a CON score - he can use things like Elfire without taking any speed loss, which greatly helps with his gimped MAG stat. Or at least gimped in comparison to Lute.

Vanessa is one of the best units in the game, what with that ridiculous speed growth and cross-the-map mobility. Tana technically has slightly better stat growths, but she comes weak late like every Est, so I prefer Vanessa all the way.

Ross is eh, but is probably the best trainee thanks to join time. People like Pirate -> Berserker Ross, but I prefer Colm promoting to Rogue quickly. Besides, it's not like Warrior Ross is a bad option by any means, if you care to raise the trainees.

    Garcia sucks.

    Did I miss anyone?

Also, you doing Ephraim or Eirika route?

I was thinking of just letting people vote on which route to take when the time comes. IIRC Ephraim's route has like the one hard level in the game with that fog of war ship battle.

I've played several Fire Emblems (but have only beaten 7 and 9), but from their reaction I'm guessing the combination of fog of war and ship adds up to something worse than either alone?

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

It involves being snuck up on by a Wyvern Knight in the back because he was out of your field of vision. It's pretty similar to how sometimes enemies would spawn at the beginning of their turn in FE6.

If you want to beat the level you have to memorize where the enemies spawn which requires a few restarts.\

In entirely unrelated news I just felt the need to share this because even though it is technically the wrong game this is basically how I play Fire Emblem

Oddly I p much didn't use Ross until the third playthrough so I could make him a Super Journeyman. Amelia's p fucking rad too. Like I said, Ewan should still branch out because his stumbling chump casting gets on my nerves for being a great fucking spellcaster.

Colm p much has to be a Rogue. He's like, what, the ONE thief you get in the entire game?

And you have to make him a Rogue if you want to advance him but keep the stealing. There are so many other options for Assassins.

    Like Joshua.

Oh wait no he's better off as a Blademaster because he's so cool.

Joshua's hat and Canas's monocle are the two greatest accessories in FE history.

Why would you even want a Super Journeyman, though? Ross has mediocre speed and the heaviest weapon type; he needs all the Con he can get.

Because god DAMN his stats go off the charts + that p ridiculous Crit

Though I have to admit that Amelia is best as a Super Recruit

I mean come on I mean the only other thing I could do with her reasonably is make her a General which is hilarious (Because god damn there's enough Cavaliers as it is)

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Fun fact: In the Japanese version this chick is apparently the poster child for incestuous innuendo. It was toned down quite a bit in the American version (whether that is a good thing or not is up to you).
Lachesis and Eltosian in FE4. Nodioncest is bestcest. Also
I'm fairly sure Leaf and Altenna have some undertones too. FE4 is just incest city.

I might totally steal your LP idea and do one for FE5, the game in the series thats probably the hardest. And has both the best, and worst mechanics, at once. If anyone'd be interested?

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Oh god, FE5. I've never played it, only heard legends of its ridiculous difficulty thanks to said aforementioned game mechanics.

Have gotten through 4 + all the GBAs, though, and I admit it's tempting to do one of my own.

EDIT: For the hell of it, found my last FE8 run.

My fighting force, by the end ->

    Support chains woo~

I have to say, if I did do FE5, I'd be abusing savestates, just to show how ridiculous you can get with the game. Even then, it's still a difficult game. I think it's the only FE where it's entirely possible to screw up so badly the game becomes unwinnable, without getting your Lord killed. For example:

If Eliwood and Hector each hook up with a pegasus sister, Roy/Lilina becomes retroactive incest.

Yeah, but that's cousincest. That's like... half the second-gen destined pairs in FE4. And that's not even counting Shanan/Lakche.

Shanan, Shanan you give Lakche that Balmunk this instant. SHANAN.

Oh god Lakche with the Balmunk.

Though I always paired Ayra with Lex, so she was always Odo minor. But elite and that defense growth made it worth it.

(We're so totally throwing this off-topic.)

I realized that I never gave a crap about support conversations and never actively seeked them out

    and thus nobody got married.

I always did Tiltyu/Lex, because Ambush + Wrath = just sit Arthur in front of an entire army and watch him slaughter the lot. Shame it doesn't work in FE5/10.

Anyway yeah I'm gonna go start playing FE5 so we have a place to put all this Jugdral talk.

Ah yeah, Ambush + Wrath. Felt like it was relying too hard on a gimmick though, what with no pursuit and a terrible magic stat. Tiltyu, why are you such a terrible mother statistically?

Also, I liked to reserve Holyn for Brigid. It's non-destined, but absolutely amazing. Patty gets Holyn's swords, Odo minor blood and most importantly Lunar Sword, which is a godsend for her (also, a whole lot of skill to activate it). Faval gets absolutely absurd HP growth and huge skill, which means you can use the Killer Bow to score tons of criticals and preserve the horrendously expensive to repair Ichival.

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Man I need to play these older games I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

For those of you with short term memory loss.

You can always tell when someone is a bad guy in these games by if he has a big, ugly nose.

    Amazing alliterations always accentuates significance.

Oh hi there Fluttershy. Spoiler alert: The bracelet thief is Fluttershy's crush.

His subtle blue coloring makes him difficult to detect in all the brown.

Converting Colm with Niemi blah blah blah not much to talk about.

In other games those bandits would be knocking down the walls to get to me.

But in Sacred Stones they just stand there like the morons they are and let Neimi and Ross poke them until they die.

    Leveling up.

This thief stole my damn vulnerary. I forgot they could do that.

Pictured: Eirika missing with a 93 percent hit chance.

Holy crap I actually leveled him up this is like a miracle

    One left.

Despite being the most difficult kill at 31 hit chance he always goes after Eirika. This allows me to plink him at will with Ross and Neimi while Eirika deals some damage on his turn. Good stuff.

I really wanted Ross to get this last shot but he missed. OH WELL.

Level up because you always level up when you finish off a boss character.

    It's the blue hair.

Would you have guessed that they are talking about Eirika's bracelet in this screenshot?

    Meanwhile, in Grado...

The Duke of Oldfart has a conference with Mistress Boobs and Sir Creeperstare.

The king's dialog has been translated into proper English for our convenience. What he is really saying is "Braaaaaaaaaaains...".

I don't think I've ever killed this guy. If I recall correctly he is the boss in a survival map and trying to actually fight him is guaranteed to get somebody killed.

He has more power in one of his pecs than most people have in their whole bodies.

Pecs Man is always searching for his matching Boob Lady.

Oh right, it's Lord Rapeher. Don't think anybody is surprised we are seeing him again.

    Well this can't be good.

The mustache from 6 didn't help, either. Didn't help Hector, either. Has any character who grew facial hair between games ended up not worse? I can't recall any.
