I would wonder how he gets away with lying about his blood color. If you can fluff it, I'd have no problem with it.
My fantrolls
......
I was not aware that trolls never had any choice in the symbols they have, given the fact that that was never explained to me before. *sighs*
Blargh, whatever then. It can just be the Kanji for Hyaku Roku-Ju Kyu. 169 in Japanese. Could that work? I mean, I know I have seen other trolls with symbols that mean something in another language, so I don't know.
@Anatidae: Liarbloods are risky because if anyone found out they'd sure make a lot of enemies very quickly. I suppose if they liked the thrill of being someone they weren't, that could make for an interesting character, but it's best to keep the consequences in mind. That, and it is usually fairly easy to tell a highblood from a lowblood from their living conditions, and as they got older their eye color would give them away if they didn't hide that as well... Oh and if they bleed, they're screwed, and trolls bleed a lot.
A lowblood could be a good hunter without using their psychic powers as well. It just seems like an odd mix of traits I guess. I'd recommend making either a hunter OR a liarblood.

True we aren't given explicit information about how trolls are assigned their symbols. It's likely they're given one when they conquer the trial caverns. They could always pick up another one to use but the birth symbol is very important. Why not give him another symbol but keep his quirk the same?
Kanji tend to be a bit complex for symbols. How about using Roman numerals?

True about the eye color. I'd make them a nomadic adventurer so they don't have a hive (or a lusus, I suppose), so that can't give it away, and the character I have in mind is a super-introverted, pokerfaced srs-bznzz troll who never cries, but if they did get emotional, oh shit, hell would break loose. I'm picturing them as being the live-on-the-edge, always on the run type, anyway, so I bet they'd get a kick out of the whole keeping-it-all-a-mystery thing, especially since there are higher stakes than just going anonblood.
I already have a pretty cocky highblood (indigo) troll made, and she has psychic powers (but sucks at using them since she's not really supposed to have them, so they act as more of a hassling mutation than anything else), so I guess their dynamic would get pretty intense if she were to find out that her nomadic, blue-shirted friend was actually a commoner.
Obviously, somebody would find out eventually. I'm thinking about maybe having my highblood already know, just so there's already a relationship established there, and possibly there being a consequence (possibly from some sort of blood oath? Would that be possible?) if she were to tell anyone. Also, I guess I could make them young enough that their eye color wouldn't be an issue for a good long while.

..............
You guys just keep confusing me.
I need something to calm me down.
*grabs a*
Ironically, I actually have a Tab IRL that I am just now about to start on.![]()
There's little to be confused about. Your troll needs a symbol, one assigned at hatching. Then you can logically add an additional symbol, such as your preferred 169, because your troll is a member of the 169th threshicutioner division and would obviously have something on his outfit to identify him as such. The problem is solvificated.
Alternatively, make an AU. It's what I use when I dabble in these sorts of things.
I was referring to the symbol debate portion that did not refer specifically to me, actually, but yeah.
Also, not all Japanese symbols are complicated. It depends on what type of Kanji you use. I'm pretty sure there are at least three different kinds. Still, if I used the simplest form then it would be seven different parts to it, and I don't know what the single Kanji piece for that number would look like, if there even is a single kanji for that number in existence.
The one issue with being a nomad and hiveless is the lack of a recuperacoon. Without sopor slime, your character would suffer terrible nightmares which might possibly drive them insane. Unfortunately, there is no known type of portable recuperacoon in canon. How trolls handle traveling long distances is unknown....
Not a fan of highbloods with powers, but what is it?
Also, what do you mean by "blood oath?" You make it sound like it's something that's actually binding. As far as I know, any agreement can be broken.
I am often on Pesterchum with one of my trolls. Don't be afraid to troll them. (Tags are in spoiler.)
@Anatidae: That sounds like a good start but they'd be in big trouble if they bled, and trolls sure aren't shy about making each other bleed...
I would definitely start them young because this really does seem like something a younger troll would want to do but eventually they would need to find a place in society.
The cocoon thing is a good point too.
@Strider: Just in my experience, kanji don't really make for good symbols and tend to be looked down upon when another could be chosen that meant the same thing, but I guess that's up to you.

Tavros uses his, he just can't get all the way in. Where does it say that Nepeta doesn't use hers?

Tavros does use his, if poorly. I don't believe we're ever told if Nepeta has one or not, but I would assume she does? We only see one room of her hive.
Lack of sopor slime would result in, at the very least, lack of restful sleep which has a whole host of problematic things that arise from it.

Okay guys, here's one of my fantrolls, so here we go:
Your name is STELLE KEPLER, and you are a SERIOUS SCIENTIST.
You've devoted nearly all your SEVEN SWEEPS of life to the study of THE ALTERNIAN HEAVENS. You could easily name every star in the forty-eight constellations, every crater on the two moons. You've even built your hive at the top of A COLD AND TREACHEROUS MOUNTAIN in order to better view the stars at night. Of course, this also puts you at a much higher risk of burning in the day time, but you usually spend that time underground anyway, making charts of your findings for your POMPOUS JADE-BLOODED FRIEND. You barely pay any attention to your lusus, a barely mobile worm twice the size of you, who tends to swallow his own tail in order to keep himself warm. Even besides the meteorological threats, many dangerous beasts patrol the mountains, however, you do have a way of handling them.
Like many other low-bloods, you have been blessed with meta-physiological abilities far surpassing the power of your fists. Every night, when you view the stars through your left eye, you absorb a certain amount of cosmic energy, which is stored within your skull. Later on, if it is needed, this energy can be haphazardly released through your right eye. For this to be used in any fight, a certain lens is needed for different distances, and for this, you own the LENSKIND STRIFE ABSTRACTUS. Unfortunately for yourself, The first time you ever were able to use this ability, the release of all those night of energy split your face open, and destroyed the lens of your right eye, TOTALLY BLINDING you on that side.
Overall, though, life has treated you quite kindly, for a troll born in a caste like your own. Your MOIRAIL, though a caste above you, has had much more trouble, especially since she insisted for quite a while on living in a public area, despite her own ability making her very difficult to be around. You have become her moirail because you have found that, on average, she seems to make far more bad choices than good ones, and you honestly believe that if she listened to you any less than she does already, she would be dead by some reason or another. Her current bad decision seems to be her involvement with a certain highblood. While you would encourage her trying to gain favor in the upper class, her new friend appears to be scum of the worst kind, and even less popular with the higher-ups than the two of you are.
If you were to play SGRUB, you would be the MAGE OF SPACE, and reside of the LAND OF MIRRORS AND FROGS, along with your consorts, shifty yellow birds.
Your trollTag is gammaCorneal, and You Speak Very Clearly, But The Scar Through Your Eye /s Always Apparent.
TL;DR:
Name: Stelle Kepler
trollTag: gammaCorneal
Lusus: Ouroboros worm
Blood Colour: Brown
Strife Specibus: lensKind
Title: Mage of Space
The scum high-blood is Sarcof, by the way.
Also, we see Nepeta sleep without it happily, mainly because she thinks of the dreams as "exciting tales of the hunt!"
I'm rather fond of of both of these trolls, but I can't help but wonder if they can be expanded on :V Critique would be nice!
IT'S A DOUBLE MOBIUS RAINBOW.
fanchars and whatnot available on pesterchum. give me a poke if you'd like to talk to them.
Please point to the page that shows that Nepeta doesn't use a recuperacoon.
