Fuck you Bane, you unbalanced sack of too much damage per second of being completely incapable of controlling my hero. Seriously, a 300 damage instant that heals you and hurts me? Fuck that. That's bullshit. Oh, you just stole 100 fucking damage from me? That's totally fair. Oh, now you're stealing control from me for 3 or 4 seconds? Great. Oh, and now here's your ult, stealing control from for 5 seconds and dealing 1275 all told in that time. Now you're just being stupid with game balance.
Fuck you Zeus, and your bullshit skill to just arbitrarily take away 120 of my health because you cast chain lightning and HAPPENED to be in the area. Oh hey, you've got an instant that deals 300 fucking damage? Awesome. I've dealt with that before, it's not too bad. Oh, it only has a 6 second cooldown? That's a bit stupid. Oh hey Chain Lightning, you deal a bit too much damage for your low cooldown, but I've got no real problem with you. But wait, here's Zeus's Ult! Oh wow, it's a global that hits my ENTIRE FUCKING TEAM for roughly 500 damage? HAH! Well I'm sure that's not broken in the hands of the Omniscient AI at all.
Fuck each and every last aspect of the AI, from it's perfect co-ordination to the fact that it never selects anything other than heroes that can steal control from you for roughly 20-30 seconds and there being absolutely shit all you can do since heroes with Silence type abilities only have silence skills that last for all of maybe 2 seconds before it wears off, meaning you've got no window of recovery if a single bot stuns you since all stuns have a range that roughly equals that of the diameter of the fucking universe, or at least they do when bots are using them. I know, the bots are supposed to teach me how to play against regular players, I get it. But really? Nanosecond perfect co-ordination? REALLY? Or the fact that teleport scrolls only seem to take them about a second to use for some messed up reason. I mean, come on. Cheating here and there so the AI isn't too easy to fight is one thing, but perfect co-ordination with stuns and instants is a bit much.
Yeah, Zeus' ult sucks. They should at least give it a range.
Hell, half the battlefield would be better than all of it.
@bane. he's a terror in the laning stage for a reason. the fact that he can get 3 disables for long periods of time without much mana problems makes him a great solo mid hero. thing is, is his spells do not gain any more potency after he levels them up. he cant keep you down for long. i would take the time to learn his cast ranges so that you can learn how to effectivly approach him. that said, bane is EXTREMELY SQUISHY. he's built like a storm spirit or a lina, often just building up scythe of vises or force staffs. any disable on him disables all his disables.
@zeus: grab some magic resistance. a cloak of resistance will up your resistance by 15%, negating a good portion of his magic damage. you know whats worse than zeus's ult? prophet's ultimate. it hits all enemy units, including creeps, that ramps up in damage exponentially as it hits each unit. zeus's ultimate is really good at killing low health enemies or harrass. pipe will also block 300 magic damage, which is half of what an aghnahims zeus ultimate does to you. tbh, zeus's ultimate isnt much of a problem.
edit: you know what's overpowered? shackleshot

The problem of both is that in the hands of bots, it doesn't matter that there's no ramp up, as both will basically instant kill you by themselves with their perfect timing because the AI knows your every move.
AI combokills are hilarious though, as usually they all gang up on you just to be sure that you're gonna stay dead (do they mistake every enemy hero for the Skeleton King?), which means there aren't any heroes in lanes that you're not in, so your allies can usually push pretty far.
In other news, Sven is absolutely terrifying. He's got buff stacks that make WoW's Paladins feel ashamed of themselves, and looks pretty cool to boot.
AIs, especially on unfair difficulty, will give you way more trouble than low-mid level matchmaking games. AIs stack way more stunners and CC than 'real' teams, and they're way more coordinated at pushing and teamfighting.
I will admit I do love the art design on a lot of the characters. Even Bane, even if he is a cheating motherfucker with Brain Sap and his two lockdowns. Actually, no, I especially love Bane's design given he's supposed to be pure nightmare given corporeal form in a way. He really does look like a terrible boogeyman conjured forth from a child's night terrors, what with the eyeless face, the few too many hands that just seem to grow out of his back, his ability to just steal their thoughts and control and his way of making them so much weaker all while being a friggin' Centaur. Everything about him just screams about him being a little kid's nightmare. Even his coloration reflects this!
Venomancer looks like he's a horridly venomous beast from a horridly venomous continent where he is the horridly venomous king of being nefariously toxic. Warlock looks like what you'd probably expect a summoner of demons and render of hells would look like. Sven looks like a knight that's said "Fuck that honor code shit, I'm too awesome for it" and just punched his way out of the old barracks. Enchantress looks like a fucking Disney Princess would. Just so many good artistic decisions made with a lot of the heroes.
So yeah, I'm liking DOTA2 so far.
I actually read a really cool theory about Bane's appearance. You'll notice that his head looks very similar to Faceless Void (down to the facial marking), and his body is quite similar to Leshrac. Given that according to their lore, both of those heroes are at least semi-divine beings, it's totally plausible that Nyctasha, the goddess from whose nightmares Bane was born has run across them in the past, and basically fears them. That would explain why Bane looks like such a weird mash-up between those two.
The lore for a lot of heroes is pretty badass in general, even though it still feels a bit disconnected.

I did the survey thing the other day, what's a good estimate on how long it'll take for my invite to arrive?
Y'know, assuming I even get one.
EDIT: This post is now about my wedding invitation.

...I could be completely wrong though.
in lieu of the latest update, i have decided to change the topic of discussion from what was once the game of DOTA2 to full on discussion of Vriska's and Hussie's Wedding Ceremony, called DOTA, too?
mods if you would be so kind as to move this fine thread
Batrider, why are you the Green Goblin from Spiderman?
Batrider, why are you pelting those people with tar so you can molotov them in the face better?
Batrider, why are you setting entire forests on fire?
BATRIDER! WHY ARE YOU SO MUCH FUN?!
AW YIS I GOT MY KEY TODAY
Time to dissipate some hype so that I don't explode while waiting for the Skullgirls pc release.
And also I guess I can enjoy playing this game too...
EDIT: Or maybe not?? The whole "press a then left click to deny" was very confusing, but I found a console command that solves it. Also, goddamn, the AI. It always last hits, it always denies, it is better than me in every way. I was hoping that the ai games would be good for training. NOPE, the bots were such beasts that most of my team usually leaves not too long into the game.
Also I officially hate Lina because being killed in a second and a half is bullshit.
Oh well, time to keep playing.

Argh, I just had the longest, most arduous and, overall, fucking stupidest game I've ever had (we won, granted, but it was still terrible).
I, being the outstanding gentleman and scholar that I am, random as soon as I can pick a champ (yeah, ok, I'm a bad person for doing that kind of thing, I like trying out new champs in real matches since bot matches don't really give a good opportunity to actually play anything that isn't exceptionally good at fucking with bots). I get Bloodseeker. My team winds up being Puck (awesome), Huskar (somewhat whiny, but trying), Sniper (stupid, raging, doesn't understand anything), Lion (asshole, troll, responds to every statement from either side with absolute vitriol, troll pauses during teamfights).
Their team consists of enchantress (new to the game but understanding how it works to some extent, hitting for massive damage with ult infused attacks), Bounty Hunter (gets fed as hell early), Tiny (...not very good with Tiny), Axe (He was there?), and Anti Mage (annoying, but built in such a way he wasn't really threatening at all). Of course, sniper, not knowing he's a carry with absurd range but low HP, dies a lot and rages constantly, then rages at me for trying to explain the concept of "you're bad early, but good late" to him (he just said that Sniper sucks fucking dick and that BH was overpowered because stealth is broken and how he was going to carry the hell out of his next game with BH). Lion rages and moans about how we're going to lose at every junction, including calling the (not fed at all) Enchantress fed when she ganked him. Our team refuses to communicate and actually seems to try to do the exact opposite of working together (at least Sniper and Lion).
In the end, we finally win (because two of their guys DC'd somewhat before our Sniper started intentionally feeding or AFKing for long periods of time and our Lion started playing "walk out of the base to ult, then AFK") but it was just so ridiculously stupid I don't even know how to describe it. The only good thing was that I got to see just how absurd a very farmed Bloodseeker could get, especially considering the +30 aspd +30 agility +30% evasion item removed the threat from everybody except Tiny, who kind of ragequit.

Hahaha yeah ever so often games like that happen. If it's any consolation, you can mute people on either team so at least you won't have to listen to their raging. I feel like Sniper is a very treacherous hero because he seems simple on paper, but in the end he's a 500 HP meatbag that hits for negligible damage early on and has no CC, so unless your map awareness and positioning is good enough, you're going to die a lot.
Sniper isn't terribly good in the early game, but once you're at max range and have a decent move speed buff you can basically run and gun everything to death (especially if yo;re getting lucky with the microstuns). Hardest counters that I've seen for him are prolly Pudge (damn you meathoooooook) and late-game, Riki due to being invisible.
Also, I'd like suggestions on a different hero to pick up, preferably ranged.
What are you looking for? "Is ranged" is a pretty broad category, considering it includes things like Enigma (low scaling jungler/ultbot), Enchantress (huge ranged autoattacker that can jungle and sucks pre-ult), Zeus (lol 350 attack range with projectiles that still hit later than 600 range heroes and an awful animation, but also lots of spell damage), Leshrac (why are you attacking when it takes you out of ult/W range?), sniper (hyper ranged hypercarry), and more. It's just silly.
Also, basically any invisible champion really screws with Sniper.
sup sup
im in the high skill mmr if anyone is and also wants to play/pubstomp a bit on the occasion
steam account is timeformonty and username is currently Autothysis
100+ wins is encouraging, but I'm not gonna turn anyone down if they just wanna game, yo
