    The Last Movie You Watched

What's the last movie you watched? How was it? Tell us about it!

    I'll start.

I've been collecting VHS this year because they're really cheap and I might as well get some use out of the VCR. Looking through some old stuff for things to sell, I found an old gift from my parents: the BBC production of the Chronicles of Narnia. Not the ones Disney put out a couple years ago. It's like I just unearthed my childhood on tape. Now, Narnia is caked with extremely blatant Christian fables because C.S. Lewis was about as subtle as napalm up your ass, but I don't give a fuck. They were the first novels I read as a child, they're classics, and I thought they were totally rad. I haven't seen these movies in years so I thought it would be fun to watch them again.

It's cold as balls in my room at night so I huddled up in bed early the other night and watched The Silver Chair, which is the last one they adapted; it's the most amusing story they did, and it has Tom Baker in it playing a pessimistic frog man thing. These were pretty theater-style in execution with elaborate costumes and sets, and like... fursuits for the animal characters. Some of them are puppets or animatronics or something. SFX are animated overlays, really obvious green screening, and stage props, like old 80's Doctor Who style. It's a lot of fun. Each movie is cut together from a bunch of serial episodes so I guess it's more like a miniseries, but I always just watched the whole tape.

I can't help but compare this film to the CGI-heavy new release of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, which I didn't like. That one tried too hard to be Lord of the Rings For Kids, when the two series don't have anything in common in my opinion, they're completely different works and barely share the same genre. People seem to group them together because the authors knew each other, which is retarded. I think Narnia has more in common with Harry Potter. Well, the BBC version of Narnia is shot pretty simply and more like a TV show than a dramatic film and that suits the tone and depth of the source material pretty well in my opinion.

The camera work is messy, but the directing is pretty decent and all. The content is good considering the scenes they were attempting to depict. The audio is bullshit-quality on my copies and I doubt it would be much better on DVD. The story itself was well-adapted in my opinion, they did it justice with what they had to work with.

I hope someone has that puppet Aslan head mounted over their fireplace somewhere.

Considering the vintage of this movie and the fact that it wasn't made for theater release, I'd rate it 4/5.

    How to Train Your Dragon.
I watched it again because I read a fic about it.

Whenever I see a CGI movie, I judgmentally place it either in Dreamworks-tier or Pixar-tier.
This goes in the Pixar-tier for me.

    Re: The Last Movie

The Immortals, which I was ushered into seeing despite my misgivings. After spending an hour actually making way to the cinema (we... walked?) and another half an hour killing time until it actually began, I prepared to spend half that time paying attention to a film that was likely decidedly mediocre at best.

It turned out to be decidedly mediocre at best. Some called it the spiritual successor to 300, a movie that any fan of the action genre liked, but comparing The Immortals to that film would be slightly insulting to 300 as where that film went right, Immortals went wrong.

Despite some of the biggest plot holes in any big budget release I've seen to date, the film abounds with messy writing and poor scripts. The actors themselves weren't particularly bad - ignoring the incredibly bland protagonists - but even they couldn't salvage the ridiculous script that saw the two main character fucking only to say under 5 lines to each other for the remaining half of the film. Even the most character-developing moments elicited only an arbitrary seconds-long response at best; it's painfully obvious that the actors were chosen for their bodies rather then their acting abilities.

The interpretation of the source material, while having the capacity to be fucking awesome came off as rather mediocre abuse for giggles, which is a shame. All the same, their take on the Minotaur is one of the best I've seen in any movie.

And TF2 would be proud, because the order of the day is ridiculous hats. Yeah, not going to elaborate on that one.

But overall, it's not an incredibly terrible movie. If you hate yourself and have 2 hours to kill, I wouldn't immediately shy away from the opportunity to watch.

I suddenly realize how long it has been since my last movie. I think it was batman: the movie. The flagship for the old show. That was a few months ago. If I remember what it was like i'll tell you.

I remember the acting being kinda X so Y in a monotone voice and the plot not being great but still a good movie nonetheless.

The last movie I watched was À bout de souffle (or Breathless, if you prefer; it's a French film). I found it enjoyable enough, but it wasn't my new favourite or anything.

I guess I'd recommend it if you're into things that are a bit...I dunno, artsy?

"What has yellow skin and writes? A ball point banana!". All delivered in such a straight-faced manner. Leaves me dying every time.

Last movie I watched was "The girl who kicked the Hornet's nest". A pretty good movie, pretty true to the film. I liked the book better, but that's no shocker. Still don't know what to think about the American remake of "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo". Guess I'll find out in, what, only a week or two, now?

The last film I watched was Watership Down, because I had been searching for it for a long time and finally found it. I had a coupon too, so I used that for it. It was my wish to see the film because I had seen Plague Dogs before and thought it was really good and touching. Watership Down was, of course, different, but it had a really nice style. I just found all these names a bit confusing, like names for groups of rabbits and sometimes even those for just one rabbit (what kind of name is Hyzenthlay?). It's a good film, but not as touching as Plague Dogs, especially because the danger posed by humans is not that big for the rabbits as for the dogs. It's not like the whole world is after them, and they're much better at surviving.

    The Prestige.

I had wanted to watch it since forever and I finally got to it. I must say it was great, although in a slightly perplexing/creepy way. It was basically a sequence of plot twists. And the last 10 minutes can only be described as epic.

Seen Puss in Boots today. Quite a great movie. A lot better then those Shrek movies. The amount of detail in the animations were simply staggering at least. Seriously, amazing.

huh I...have no idea let me check
    oh no way...
    Wow it was...

yeah the last movie I saw was Alfie (the Jude Law one) - watched it on my computer with my ex on Sept 9th (I remember the date cos that was the last time he got in contact with me heh)
It was all right, a bit too cute by half and I have a hard time watchin Jude Law now (which sucks considering I really want to watch both Sherlock Holmes movies...) but wasn't as terrible as I was anticipating xD I tend to loathe romantic comedies.

oxo I have just stopped watching movies entirely I guess, geesh....

I saw The Descendants at the theater a couple days ago, and I was blown away but what I thought would be a fairly decent movie going in. George Clooney's performance was simply amazing. He was able to put a staggering amount of emotion into a gogdamn smirk, and always appeared completely natural instead of like an actor. The plot itself was pretty decent but it was definitely the director's vision and the top notch showing from the actors that pulled it all together.

In short, if it doesn't get nominated for any Oscars I'll eat my hat.

Hmmm I watched the Muppets a few weeks back, it was great totally recommend it if you want to laugh your ass off at the cheesiest shit ever. Though I must say it exceeded my expectations because I thought it was going to be like one of those attention hogs that just use a popular name to get money, hell no it's a great movie with a great premise and it just has so many great jokes...I'm saying great a lot but that's because it was that GOOD!!!!!!

Go watch it now...all of your money.

    A Christmas Story. Several times.

I'm not sure I can say anything about A Christmas Story that hasn't already been said, though. So before that, I watched Babe, because I was given a DVD copy in a Secret Santa.

I hadn't seen Babe in ages, but I used to watch it as a kid, and I'd forgotten how good it is. I mean, it's not Pixar (in fact, it's not animated, so I'm not sure why I made that comparison) but it's really very charming, and well-done for what I like to call "another live-action animal movie".

The last movie that I saw was Immortals. It was not that great but it was a pretty good one. I think for me it was a weak storyline. Lots of blood in it too.

The last movie I watched was the new 'Sherlock Holmes' movie.

Don't go and watch it. While it was entertaining, it left me deeply dissatisfied. Sherlock Holmes does not make a good action hero, in my opinion.

Tha last movie I watched was The Muppets Christmas Carol. Nineteen years of watching that movie, and only now do I realize that the motivation behind it was to get all the Muppets in top hats. Which is an admirable thing indeed.

Also, Scrooge has the best villain song.

Well, it's a movie of a semi-popular anime called Hetalia. It does not seem to be very popular with the Homestuck Fandom, however. I really don't know why...

Thor. I actually rather liked it, though I do think Foo Fighters were a pretty odd choice for a credits theme. They just didn't seem to click. Also, I have no idea what Loki was doing at some points, letting the Frost Giants in and then double crossing them I mean I have no idea he's like a Heel Face Revolving Door or some shit.

    Still good though.

    Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes film.

It doesn't take a leap of faith to imagine why anyone who's read a Sherlock Holme's book ever would hate the fuck out of this film. I'm not one of those people, so I managed to garner quite a bit of enjoyment out of it as well as appreciate the soundtrack. Had a lot of problems, but good for some clean dumb fun.

If you haven't read anything remotely Sherlock-Holmes related, that is. If you have, best you stay clear.
