Here goes a cheer! CHEEEEER! Keep going, guys! Amazing stuff.
Here goes a cheer! CHEEEEER! Keep going, guys! Amazing stuff.
Got the 2nd sprite for Fef done! Here's the jpg with the Psd file upload link under it. I'll get to sketchin the jumping bits now.
Also, to the string of supporters who came in with all dem compliments and supportiveness! Thanks!!! I'm not sure when we'll have this done, but I'm sure the project will continue through the summer before it's done, but I'm not the best person to give that answer.

Legilos - Yay, good to have you back. I might be wrong, but it looks like those backgrounds might be the wrong dimensions - too sqaure, as opposed to rectangluar. Can someone else confirm/discount this?
REDUX. REDUX REDUX REDUX! It is beautiful, so beautiful. KARKAT'S SECTION IS NOW DONE.
Afrowolf, you should now be able to put together the entire flash in chronological order up until the end of Karkat's section!!! Are you able to do that?
Sid - More good news!! Nothing but good news! I have made a quick written summary of the assets needed. START VOLUNTEERING, GUYS! (Definitely look at all the frames before you do, though!)
• Black King pictures that we have need to be edited to have appropriate injuries
• Tavros in Car –, dodging, upside-down
• Small Tavros
• Many backgrounds
• Tavros flying from the back
• Tavros’s car being whacked
• Tentacle batting tavros away (two frames)
• The car plummeting towards the Lilypad (several frames)
Malicious - Nice Fef! Looking forward to the jumping. We are very close to done with Feferidan, too! Yessssssss
Thanks as always to all the supportive onlookersIt is really difficult to predict progress on this, because people come in and out, and certain times are more or less productive. I would say definitely not before the end of the summer. Believe me, nobody is more eager to see it come to fruition that us! HOWEVER! We are probably about to have a visible progress video up to Karkat's part soon, if all goes well, so that is something to look forward to!
There's been something that has been bothering me for quite the while now. I've listened to Vriska's section over and over and have been making sketches as well as moving things around. Issue is that some of the images don't really mend well with the part. Vriska's section begins after Gamzee's crescendo. Hers is slow and picks it up gradually, like if she simply arrived, with a look of determination and charges it up for a single killer blow.
I created my storyboard with the intent of including the works of others, but I wasn't listening to the song at the time. Now that I am, I'm starting to catch these pesky things. I don't have an issue excluding most of my storyboard or art, but I don't want to throw away other people's art like if it were mine, not fair.
Should I cook up another storyboard? Comments? ( I'm not excluding the ancestor and dice roll stuff- That goes with the song rather well. )
I'm sleepy excuse the bad..writing :U
I'm going to make it a thing for me to upload art with each post I make here, so here ya go.
Sshhhh, I suck at backgrounds... didn't know what to do
@Lientie: Yes, just one still image will do!
@Moraic: Thanks for organizing it into a list, great!
@Psych: Wow, that image is spectacular!
My opinion on changing Vriska's part (or any other part for that matter): We should always strive to make this as good as possible. We're telling a story based on the song, and both should develop in the same way. It's harsh, but if something doesn't work, cut it or redo it. Since this is a fan project showcasing the amazing talent we have in the community, I see no problem placing any unused art in the credits (With the number of contributors, it's probably going to be long enough to feature every art asset).
I'm sorry, that was really harsh - it sounds like I'm demanding you all to put in a lot more effort, while I've done so little myself. Seriously, I'm truly amazed and impressed by the amount of work that's been put into this project, especially by some of you who's continuosly made stuff for a long time! That's why it's such a shame to cut stuff, if it isn't seen in the final product.
A small aside, do you think it'd be worthwhile to make a progress bar (similar to what Hussie did in the past) for this project? It would be hard to calculate how many percent an animatic/WIP would be, but at least sec's of animation / total sec's of song could work.

I don't think that a progress bar would be a good idea, because it wouldn't really be an accurate representation of how far we have left to go, everyone's working at different speeds and such, I think that progress reports on the forum are the best idea.
You're right though, about cutting things that don't fit.
@Psych: It might seem harsh but it has to be done. If that means dropping someone's art, then drop it. The artist will understand that it's for the sake of getting the animation perfect. If you feel bad about them being cut from the piece, get them to make one of your new assets to fit the edited storyboard, and they'll still be included, just with a different piece of artwork to the original.
Here are the clouds. To variate, you can flip both around to have more, and of course, you can vary the width and height in Flash.

Black king picture for the Tavros part..Before i link the PSD for it, does it look like anything needs changing?
SO HAPPY BLACK KING!
Aw, you've just shown up how messy all the lines are >.>
Happy Black King is pretty cute though
this any better? im not really sure what you guys are looking for. I didnt change the one of the sky cause i figured it was a close up going almost straight down but if im wrong ill fix it.
Coin Attempt Round 2
Got le sketches for fef3 and fef4 done. Anything need to be changed b4 I continue?
fef3:
fef4:
They're a tad sketchier then the 2 before, and are missing the trident only because imma just add that digitally.
Malicious - Both look good to me! How many are you going for? (Also - were you also doing the effects for that scene, or do we need someone else to step in with that?
Psych - Yikes. Complicated but true - we've been having issues with Vriska's section because of that for a while. I'm going to agree with what's already been said - I think that if we have to redo the storyboard to better fit the music, we should. I guess when redoing it we can try to save as much of the original work as we can, but if things have to get cut, so be it. It's happened in other sections, too.
By the way, I love that Vriska! Could you post a psd file?
Lientie - looking great so far, but make sure to include the injuries!! There is an injury list on the wiki.
Legilos - I think those are better, thanks!
ANIMATORS - what are the ideal average bg dimensions for you guys?
I was not planning on doing the effects but I can if you want me too, thought it would probably be better to find someone else too. And those 2 sketches will be the last for Fef, unless you want more? I was planning on going back to Kanaya vs bishop after this since the chart says I have unfinished business there.
Woops, uploaded the wrong picture..i think this injury should be right, just the one cut for that part? Not sure how to get the PSD for it up unless I email it to someone too..

I think animation wise, it would be best to stay true to Hussie's default animation size. That is probably best.
Guys... I have flash again!
So I decided to work on Kanaya's part:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/53935606/kanimation.swf
Still needs a lot of tweaking but atm it's just all the art assets we have thrown together (we only need the last part (yay))...
Does anyone know who made the chainsaw revving bit? I just used screenshots from the storyboard so it's looking kinda crappy so if I could get the original file that'd be a great help...
Also, any feedback is welcome as always.
Dear lord that was beautiful :O
Pretty cool! I'd suggest making some sort of transition between Kanaya's clothes, though. Pretty weird how she suddenly shifts clothes in between. And just a nit-picky thing is the jumping Kanaya. It just looks rather... static in the animation. Maybe someone could make a quick scene with Kanaya jumping off the lotus? I dunno, there's just something that bothers me with that particular part.
MaliciousSketch - I thought the Kanaya vs. Bishop was all done, actually! Am I wrong on this? I'm excited to see the final Feferi sprites!
Who wants to do the effects for the Feferidan final attack?
Lientie - Actually, the eye needs to be damaged - Terezi stabbed it!
CP - Ahh I love it! I think jejajade was responsible for the last storyboard but I don't know what the deal was with the asset. You should PM jejajade and ask.
I agree very strongly with Redux that we should show some kind of costume switch. It might be easiest to do it on the frames where the lipstick turns into a chainsaw - it's just like Kanaya to switch her outfit to match the chainsaw's color scheme. (Also - the days when you have flash are the best days. Is this a permanent thing?)
Tezz, how is the final section with Kanaya's billowing dress coming along?
Also, general call - we still need even more dark clouds and dark cloudy backgrounds for Gamzee's part! Dream is putting together the flash right now so it is a priority for us.

I'm almost done with the Nepequius backgrounds. Just a quick question about their size: for the normal, static ones, I've been working in 950x650 - bigger than they will be, but the same size as the Kanaya and Feferidan ones already in existence. However, the Nepequius section is full of fancy zooms and pans and the like. I've been making those as big as I think they'll need to be for the final zoom/pan/tilt/etc, but any tips from animators about how big those kind of backgrounds should be would be useful.
If they're anti-aliased backgrounds then I'd suggest not making it so big that it shows. Otherwise, what you're doing seems good.
(I can't speak as an animator really, but I can speak from as a "that seems pretty correct from the two or three things I've done" guy.)
