Wow this happens every single time I play mafia, I never learn from my mistakes.

I'll just stop trying to scumhunt on D1, just townreads from now on.

But hunting from RVS is pretty useless. You can tell when it stops, because people start making sense.
Protip: Townreads are just as useful as scumreads. If you trust one or two people, their reads can help you develop yours. That said, if you go to far, and just take over theirs, you've stopped helping town. It's sheeping and don't do it.

Well of course not, I'm trying to take a new approach to Mafia and avoid taking everything as a scumread but god that just struck me as so damn scummy I couldn't control it.

I guess I was being a bit inconsistent earlier, I was really stupid and did not realize that there was a third page of posts at the point when I wrote my first point of discussion, and after I read all that followed I decided that there was still very little information, but enough so that I felt aggravated to vote, for I didn't click through yd12k's spoiler chains at the time.

It's my fault for not reading. I feel incredibly stupid right now, but oh well.

I'm told it is tradition on this forum to give everyone, including powerless townies, a quicktopic so they can communicate with partners they don't actually have. Shadok and I already discussed this, so I'm just asking you guys, the players, why the Christ this is so?

Where I come from, we're very practical. The mafia get their quicktopic so they can talk with each other at night. Other groups (e.g. Cults, Masons, buddied PRs, ect.) also get their own quicktopic so they can have their discussions. PRs and lone Independents (e.g. Cops, Doctors, Serial Killers, Anarchists, ect.) simply PM their night actions to the mod(s). In fact, the mafia tends to also PM their final actions to the mod so that the mod gets all of the night actions in one quick easy to read place (their inbox).

So how in the heck does the game benefit from giving powerless townies who have no ability whatsoever and never need to communicate with anyone (including the mod) outside of the game thread actually help anything? Can anyone explain this oddity to me?

Leaving notes to either yourself or people in the post game is one common use.
Some people have multiple computers that they play with and having a hub of their thoughts and reminders that would only be unreachable under the same circumstances that you wouldn't be able to play is good.
Also, some questions that are really simple yes or no but that you wouldn't want to ask in the thread would be a good use.
Also some people have like, 900 pm's and no space for asking "do the mafia have daychat"
So it does help some yes.

Getting back to the scumhunt:

The only people I don't trust at the moment is InoxFy, Deceptive, and Palamedes based on the little guesswork I have done. Inox due to pretty much the same reasons as Kaynato, and Deceptive for...well. Almost the same reason Inox said. Yaay, stupid contradictions.

My suspicions on Palamedes is based on just a hunch at this point, so I can't really elaborate on it.

Also, Belonoid Anoesis. MaskedClaus, and ThirdEmperor haven't contributed to the discussion yet [although Belonoid has posted this day]. I'd sort of like to hear their opinions on the whole situaion thus far before [reluctnatly] breaking my no vote for non-silly reasons.

As a quick note: In the last forum I was in that did mafia games, the town would sometimes look for "exploits" in that don't quote your Role PM bit. For example, they'd quiz suspected scum on "what is the 5th word in the townie win condition"

Do not do this, it's lame. I'm going to be counting answering such quizzes as breaking the rule on quoting your role PM. Scumhunt properly.

I've generally solved this by just giving scum a fake town rolepm, but the way you did it is even simpler so I might just have to do that from hereonout. Then again my town winconds are pretty much standardized across games.

Pretty much what Solaris said. It's nice to have a place to stick notes and thoughts, and having it somewhere where other people can look at it post-game is cool as well. Player questions to mods about mechanics and things are important as well, and if you've got any sort of communication role in the setup that simplifies things massively rather than having to PM people after the game starts.

Her posts come off as convoluted and confusing, without really explaining anything that couldn't be summed up in a single paragraph.
There's also the fact she's against random-voting, which I suppose could just be a personal preference, but is still a minor strike against her in my book.

I'm gonna go with InoxFy, the deciding factor being how he immediately went from jumping on people at the first opportunity to being highly apologetic the moment he was put under pressure.

I would like to hear a little more from both MathGirl and InoxFy though.

I honestly have no idea how to defend myself. I realize no one has officially voted against me, since there are others who seem more suspicious than I, but I will be fairly surprised if I don't end up having the mob vote against me within a couple of rounds. Stupid MathGirl, this why you should always make sure to read to the last post instead of posting before reading everything. (I actually made this same mistake twice on this thread. Bluhbluh I'm such an idiot) Also, I didn't realize when I made my first few posts that you could actually change your vote at any time, which makes the game very different in my eyes. I thought bold == final vote, hence my adamance against frivolous voting. Then my resolve broke and I voted anyway and swore not to change it. Bluh bluh I'm a huge idiot.

I'm not a newbie when it comes to games played but for some reason I can't just not suck. Just ask anyone that has played with me already, EVERY game I play I get a bunch of people bandwagoning against me since early D1.

But yeah, I'm not sure what it is I'm doing wrong but I'm trying to change it so I can perhaps become more competent at some point. Experience dictates it has something to do with VOTING so I'm just going to stop doing that until I have a stupid amount of reads against one particular suspect.

Besides, I have scumhunting skills whatsoever apparently so I'll try to focus some more on trying to identify who's town.

If we have to vote, I'm for either lurkerlynching or lynching someone who's name pops up a lot, which would probably by InoxFy, as everyone generally agrees he is most suspicious.

Ok here's my guess, my guess is that entirely 100% of scum is shutting up and letting you mislynch on the basis of 1 or 2 posts I made while sleep deprived that got blown out of proportion. I'm going to recommend putting pressure on a lurker instead of someone who already said all he has to say if you want to get them to post, just saying "I wish lurkers would post" never, ever works.

And, as I promised, I can say I'm getting a slight townread from you since you're putting quite a bit of effort into this, but your conformism on a lynch who's case against it consists of 90% parroting kinda kills it.

For the record, I said if we have to vote. I still support the no-lynch-day-1 thing at this time, hence why I didn't tack a vote at the end of that post to join the bandwagon. Bluh bluh bad wording, my bad.

As for pressuring the lurkers, again. I didn't vote for one of them becuase I don't feel a vote from me would help. I've already made it clear that I don't D1 lynch unless I have too, so a vote from me wouldn't help. Ontop of that, just one vote won't really put any pressure on them, compared to the 3 on you and the fact that, at the moment, we don't have a deadline so there's going to be no softlynch, so unless everyone suddenly dropped their suspicion from you to vote on one of them, which with how things are going I think is unlikely at this time, they can just remain lurking.

Also, I wouldn't know who to pressure. Demonsul stands out the most to me though, due to his vote being later than Ben's and his [probalby jokingly] refusal to discuss, so him I guess?
