Stuff and stuff
I had some trouble loading the theme packet to the most updated pesterchum. I'll re-read the rules and whatnot to see what the problem may be, but most times it's easier to ask. Any clue?
EDIT: Alright, so I'm gonna download the newest stable PC when I can, and try integrating that ZIP.file-Theme packet within the new PC.
Hey man, I'm kind of having a problem. I'm using Windows XP SP3 and I'm new at Pesterchum, it's the first time I downloaded it, it seems to install fine but when I go to my desktop and open it/click it/run as, nothing seems to happen, it doesn't opens or anything, I hope you can help me out here, maybe I'm doing things wrong or something, thanks for your attention!I forgot to add that my computer is in spanish. (though I have a friend with Windows 7 Pro in spanish and she said it works perfectly in her comp) would this make any difference at all? I did what you said, but nothing opened or happened.Try doing this:
* Run the command line by going to Start->Run and then typing "cmd".
* Type cd C:\Pesterchum
* Type pesterchum.exe
and see if it gives you any errors there.

Webchat is probably a web page that connects to IRC. So a diagram of connections would be:
Since your school only allows web connections, you can't reach Pesterchum unless we make a webchat too.Code:(School) (outside) |-----| (web) |---------| (irc) |-----| | You |------->| Webchat |------->| IRC | |-----| |---------| |-----| (School) (outside) |-----| (irc) |------------| | You |---X--->| Pesterchum | |-----| |------------|
Of course, you can always use a web-based IRC chat to connect to irc.mindfang.org.
Wait what? This is an all-encompassing update. If you download the zip file you can pull the new themes out of it...

Meh...one problem after another. I just reinstalled pesterchum due to I don't know what fuckup after I reset my router, now my "accept random encounter" box is greyed out.
I'll try redownloading and shit.
EDIT: Nope.avi
The box in the options and the selection in Client are still both greyed out.

I'm having a few issues with receiving messages, i don't know if this is common or i'm just being incredibly STUPID or something.
I can send messages just fine and calsprite obviously works but i can't receive messages from anyone else.
is there a way to fix this?
Shit let's be santa
This is exactly what is happening to me, only I'm using Windows 7 Home 32bit. I can use 3.14 and the 3.41 beta just fine, but this new versions just starts, uses about 30% of my cpu, then goes away. No errors at all in cmd.
I am running it from C:\Pesterchum, if that matters.
That happens whenever the random encounter bot is down/offline.
I have Mac version 10.5.8 and this version isn't working for me at all. everytime I try to open it I get this:
Only 2.5 works on my computer ( u _ u)
Downloaded PC version 3.14 a while ago and just today I downloaded this [3.41]. I did not have Pesterchum open while downloading [saving] both items.
I have not downloaded the new version yet. However, when I try opening my old one [3.14] from the START menu/desktop, I recieve this message.
I can no longer open it. I have tried closing all my windows, and even restarting my computer. Is there any way I could open it? Or will I have to download 3.41?
(Not sure if this has been asked, I'm just super desperate right now)

What's your chum handle? Try messaging me (ghostDunk) sometime.
I didn't think I'd need to but I'll upload a debug version. I thought this new installer would fix all this
What directory was Pesterchum installed in? Also what is your Windows username?

I just made a debug version. Can you guys all run the it and post the log?
Instructions:
* Download the debug version: http://bit.ly/tB3hsg
* Unzip it and copy the files into your Pesterchum directory (usually C:\Pesterchum)
* Run the pesterchum_debug.exe file.
* After you encounter the problem you've been having, exit Pesterchum.
* Open the "debug.log" file, then copy and paste the text into http://pastebin.com or some other pastebin
* Post the link to the pastebin.
A warning: the conversations you have while running this version will be in the log, so don't discuss anything private.

I figured out what it wanted from that and now it works fine. Just had to copy over the profiles that didn't copy. Not sure why it didn't work. Also didn't think it was long enough to need pastebin.
I've been able to install and start up Pesterchum so far fairly easily, but once I enter my chumhandle, an error comes up saying:
"Errno 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"
I can't click anything, reconnecting just brings the message up again, and it's rather frustrating.
I had no clue how random encounter worked. Sorry about that.
I've been trying to work out a quirk problem off and on for months. At this point it's partly a matter of stubborn principle and partly a matter of intellectual curiosity that I see this through instead of just giving up and doing the quirk manually. If this is the wrong place for this, sorry, but it seemed right and I couldn't find a different place to ask online.
What I want it to do: Add 1 (one) "t", "t", or "T" to any t+, Tt, or T+, respectively. This is just a simple quirk if done manually, and a solution should be helpful for many people who want a similar quirk.
More generically, and I'm switching to algebraic notation for this line ONLY, (y=[x+1]) where x=times character is input and y=times character is output.
What the pressing issue of my concern is: In short, I want to change T to TT, change t to tt, change TT to TTT, and change tt to ttt, without changing TT and tt to TTTT and tttt, respectively, or having to type out literally hundreds of simple replaces (possibly thousands if I discover a flaw in my streamlining method or did the math wrong).
Results I've had:
- t and T go to tt and TT respectively, but tt and TT go to tttt and TTTT respectively.
- t and tt go to tt, and T and TT go to TT.
- Somehow, and I can't even remember how this happened (some crazy out-of-the-box Regex idea, probably, possibly combined with an accidental vestigial Simple Replace), t and tt went to tt, and T and TT went to TT, but T somehow became TTt. I wish I could tell you more, but I was only keeping mental records of my attempts for a long time.
- The program (apparently) totally ignoring the quirk, since it read as either gibberish or something that made sense but could never be activated.
Workarounds I have found:
- A ridiculously long string of Simple Replaces (" ata"->" atta", " Ata"->"Atta", " ATA"->" ATTA", "-ATA"->"ATTA", "ata"->"atta", " ta"->" tta", etc.) plus a " " prefix. Insufficient because even if I do manage to print out every combination of letters with every combination of non-alphanumeric character prefixes, I don't know that it won't temporarily break the client or my computer. I was willing to do this until I realized I would need to make a set for every non-alphanumeric character prefix to make it consistent; I'm still willing to do it if someone knows a way to pare it down to alphanumeric prefixes ~only.
- Letting T and TT be replaced with TT, and letting t and tt be replaced with tt. I'd rather give up the quirk and try to figure out a different, similarly-themed one than settle for that.
Things I want to try but have no idea how to implement:
- Set quirks to activate in order, so that tt becomes ttt then t becomes tt. I'm pretty sure there is no way to tell Pesterchum to do this without massive creator-end edits to the program, and I intend to fix this from the user-end instead of asking/begging/telling the creator to do anything about it (I'm totally fine with suggesting it, though. Hey, illuminatedwax, if you're reading this you should totally make that a feature if'n you feel like it and it's not too much trouble).
- Tell the program to ignore certain things within the bounds of a greater instruction ("t to tt except when part of tt", "tt to ttt except when part of ttt", etc., but using Regexes like [^whatever]). This may or may not be possible if you know how to word it, but every method I tried resulted in something under "Results I've had" above (mostly the one where it didn't do anything).
- Tell the program to remember the input and pass through everything that doesn't change. For example, [a-su-z]t->[a-su-z]tt or [a-s,u-z]t->[a-s,u-z]tt or even [a-s]t->a-s]tt makes "at" become "att" and "it" become "itt" instead of both becoming "[a-s]tt" (in the case of the last example). I'm pretty sure that this is impossible as freaking fracking lifetime horrorterrors madness without rewriting the language and/or its compiler from the ground up.
I think that about covers it. I hope the gibberish is at least understandable gibberish, as oxymoronic as that hope may be.
right click and select run as > administrator, some programs are able to work when you do that, but this time it didn't work.Also I just noticed: what do you mean by "run as"?
I'm gonna try the debug version now.
EDIT:
this is what I got http://pastebin.com/ehENsFzc

I downloaded the debug version and my computer won't let me open it. My Norton keeps saying it's a threat, so when I extract it into my Pesterchum folder it immediately deletes it. However, it doesn't delete the MANIFEST file nor the empty file folder, just the application.

You probably have firewall issues. Turn off or allow Pesterchum through any firewalls on your computer. If you don't have a firewall, try the "port 1413" trick mentioned in the FA%.
You guys both have the same problem: you most likely have a "ó" in your username. It sucks because unfortunately there's no workaround short of changing your username. I will post an update for you guys to run asap.
