((Somehow iron mass's cooldown hasn't been added. I don't know if that means you didn't count it last turn or simply forgot to add it.))

Takumi: Kill Kraine. That's probably the best course of action right now. You don't really think those other creatures will disappear or die or retreat or anything if - no, when you do so, but it's worth a try. And that bastard is your main target anyway.

By random diceroll, you decide against smiting the demonic Bohw, instead targeting the largest shadow monster close to the group below, tapping into your power rune in preparation for your spell. Your target is the shadow gargoyle, and, invoking Judgement Calling, you summon a lightning bolt of holy energy from the skies, striking the gargoyle for 592 damage and dazing it! In the moment it lasts, the bolt lights up the gray gloom which the black sun has called across the land, but it only lasts a moment before the world is returned to its gloom.

Anyhow, you're not paralyzed anymore and can act again.

He crouches down next to her again and pats her shoulder in a friendly manner, as though Echo could get up and walk away at any point. Of course, it's painfully obvious to both of them that Nos is also casting a spell to weaken (slightly reduce rolls for) Echo's spells for a little while. "Seriously, I bet you're still gonna try something but you should really just try again another day. Recharge the ol' magical battery. Buy yourself some sort of deadly poison to use on somebody you hate. Hire a thug to back you up, I dunno. Just... take a rain check on the slaughtering, okay?"
You say some stuff and also curse Echo with a -2 penalty to all her rolls, lasting 4 turns (Roll 18+6).

As Kraine comes up from his diveroll, you approach with the intention of delivering a roundhouse kick to his face, but Kraine suddenly darts forwards taking the beginnings of a move which would've evaded your attack at the same time he thrusts his dagger at you. This is when a cackling fireball takes him full in the face, allowing you the time to complete your attack and deal him 324 damage! (Roll 14+5)

However, his dagger takes you full in the gut, and a burning pain threatens to overwhelm you... You take 495 damage (Crit)!

Without a response however he turns back on the advancing monsters and charges into them with his shield raised, the shield glints as he Blocks much damage as he can. At least he can draw the monster's attention, if anything.

Bohw makes a warped hissing sound and goes for a more direct route of causing pain. She stretches her arms out to her side and begins floating higher in the air, conjuring a ring of fireballs behind herself, Bohw raises a hand and points at Kraine as the fireballs all form a face of anguish. Then, with a wild grin and flick of the hand all the fireballs begin to laugh in unison and shoot off in Kraine's direction, they impact all at once and set the man ablaze in a giant fireball. Behind the screams of pain, one could swear the fireball is is laughing manically, Bohw joins her spell in the laughter as she bursts into a fit herself, conjuring more fireballs and hurling them at Kraine.

    "Burn! BURN FOREVER!!"
More and more of the shadow creatures seem to shake off Evergreen's spell, charging towards the party. Mayor does everything in his power to draw their attentions to himself. Mayor is the subject of 624 points of damage, from all the shadow creatures attacking him combined. Thanks to the Barrier Aegis' magic, though, this damage is reduced to only 156. As a bonus, the magical power of the shield seems to absorb even the damage caused by Corruption, never mind that it is an ongoing thing.

Bohw summons her infernal skulls, each cackling madly, and then she begins a relentless assault on Kraine, who quickly lets go of the dagger, once again leaving it impaled in Takumi. He retreats, and you continue hurling flaming barrage after cackling barrage at him, lighting him on flames. He stumbles and falls to the ground, the dagger reappearing in his fist. He dissolves into a shapeless shadow, attempting to retreat by shadowstep again, but your next barrage strikes even the fleeing darkness, and it falters midair, the shadow spinning around itself in a daze. As the next firebolt strikes the shadow, it emits an unnatural howl of pain, then splits into several smaller shadows. Instead of retreating, these shadows form into misty discs of dark energy, then hurl themselves at the party, cutting Thunderpaw, Bohw, Jane, Echo, Nos and Evergreen for 150 damage. Mayor takes Takumi's blow, thanks to Selfless, thus potentially saving his life. Ofcourse, Mayor himself will hurt even more for doing so...

After each shadow sickle have dealt their damage, they change course and coalesce into one form again, becoming Kraine, floating several yards over the earth, his body burned to be barely recognizable, shadow magic oozing from him and grinning his sick rickus snarl. He lifts the dagger, then stabs himself in the heart.

He falls to the ground, dead. Immediately, the darkness that was oozing from him before intensifies as all of it streams back into the dagger in a vortex of shadows. Its as though something is being drained from Kraine's body... In fact, what remains of him is quickly turning to ashes!

    ---

What with all of this terrible, terrible damage going out, Jane and Evergreen both cast an area of effect healing spell, healing everyone for respectively 68 and 64 damage (Rolls 7+11 and 14+7).

Re: Black Zenith [Adventure / RPG / Chapter Two: Ashes and Embers

It is correct, for i added some additional effects to it. As the ability states (or if it doesnt, it should), it has a baseline cooldown of 6, but depending on what effects it has it can be shorter or longer than that.

Also i appear to have forgotten to add all of the additional enemies which joined the battle. Oh well gotta sleep now, but suffive to say that there are a nasty lot more. Also, Evergreens spell ran out and the rest of them seem intent on finding faces to gnaw on, now.

Perhaps I oughta focus on extracting those guys and getting out of here. I'll just toss down a rope ladder for them to climb up, that should be generic enough to be assumed that I already have one. Maybe grab an ice grenade and that clockwork rifle as well, I'm betting those things won't just sit around and let me fly off with everyone.

Nos does his best to ignore Echo as he gets up and walks away. Instead, he picks out the nearest Corshar to amuse himself with, giving it a sound thwack! with his hammer.

Mayor turns on a dime, shoving away the closest shadow creatures as runs back around to the group. He intentionally runs up Takumi and Thunderpaw, stopping to point at the shadow creatures, the dangerous spell Kraine just unleashed and the twisted Bohw who will no doubt turn on them any moment now that Kraine's dead, not that they're even aware in the slightest. He then points to the airship in a very aggressive fashion, silently telling them now's the time to get the hell out of here. He himself does not run just yet however, he bides himself and takes a defensive stance in an attempt to resist more damage this turn, he's not leaving without Bohw.

    "NO!!"

Bohw begins to howl as descends back to the earth, denied her full revenge as her twisted smile turns back to a face of torment and exhaustion, slowly she glances over at her friends with a look of madness in her eye. She turns back to whatever's left of Kraine, Bohw claps her hands together and summons a Glyph of Binding around Kraine's corpse, then channels her energy into it attempting to delay whatever spell is about to be cast.

Thunderpaw gets distracted by the nearby Corishar, opting to fight them before turning to the remains of Kraine.

Well, Nos' weakness is mind-affecting spells...

However, Mind Control is perhaps some of the most sophisticated magic, if not the most. There is no way you are going to cast a flawless Mind Control. Indeed, as you finish the spell, you gain only enough control to move two of his limbs of your choosing. You can also choose to simply directly oppose anything he is trying to accomplish to try to ruin whatever Nos might try to do. (Roll 13+4, Crit)

Note that this requires extensive concentration and any action you take while concentrating will be less powerful than it might otherwise have been.

You already demonstrated your ownership of rope ladders back when you escaped your hometown, remember?

Regardless, you throw down the rope ladder amid your trapped companions down there, but noone seems particularly interested in actually getting the fuck out of that death trap.

You shoot a random corshar for 263 damage (Roll 16-2, Crit) with the Clockwork Rifle. Despite being horrible at these kinds of ranged weapons, that is actually quite well done. Indeed, your target disperses following your shot, so you probably 'killed' it?

I am going to assume that Echo denies you your use of your legs. Instead, you just thwack a random shadow monster, dealing 217 damage (Roll 3+9).

You strike it for 88 damage - quite unimpressive, really (Roll 2+7). But who can fault you for that given these less-than-optimal conditions?

Mayor retreats to a more 'safe' spot, then focuses on resisting the multiple cases of Corruption which is currently causing rust and ruin to spread where he was struck by the dagger and, more recently, those shadow strikes. He manages to resist 80 of this damage.

Bohw tries to focus on stopping whatever spell is taking place, but finds no spell to stop! Well, besides the dagger itself which is strongly magical, but that is only to be expected.

Instead, she loses her patience with the spell and converts it into a flame nova, blasting four nearby shadow monsters and Jane for 130 damage, each (Roll 6+9)!

    ---

Jane is done good with this bullshit, she casts a quick shield over herself and goes to climb the step ladder.

Evergreen heals Takumi for 213 health.

Released by Evergreen's spell, a LOT of shadow monsters attack! Its a good thing that only so many can get to you at a time, or you'd probably already all be doing quite quickly. Another thing that might be important; One of those black shades steps into the clearing, unfolding wings of shadow and drawing a blade made from darkness. It strides forwards with a certain purpose in mind, though it doesnt charge immediately.

Two corshar attack Thunderpaw for MISS and 135 damage!

Three corshar and a shadow gargoyle attack Bohw, dealing a total of 253 damage! Fortunately, her flame nova kept them well at bay, so they dealt less damage than they would otherwise have done.

A single corshar attacks Mayor, but it misses (Hit 1+1 Vs Defense 4)

Two shadow hounds attack attack Echo, dealing a total of 350 damage!

A corshar charges at Nos, dealing 90 damage.

Another corshar strikes out at Evergreen, but misses.

The orc and his companions seem to no longer be paralyzed, and they quickly get back up. Upon seeing Kraine dead, their leader shouts something along the lines of "We're not fighting those people lets get out of here!!" and then they turn and run.

Speaking of Kraine, a sudden gust of wind stirs up his ashes, sending them whirling into the air before they slowly drift back towards the ground. You cant even identify his corpse as having been more than vaguely human, now. Great?
The dagger, now only supported by flimsy ashes, falls sideways onto the ground, gleaming ominously. It was gleaming ominously from the beginning through, so probably nothing new there?

Echo laughs to herself. That spell worked just how she wanted. "You're right. Oh yes, you're right. I'll come back later, once I've healed up and had a nice rest. All this shadowy stuff doing a disaster on my magical aura. But don't dare think for a minute that you're a better magician. You, you cast parlor tricks. I'm willing to bet there's a bouquet up your sleeve or something. I AM A MAGICIAN. I KNOW MAGIC. I've been casting spells since you were just a maggot. And I will not let some BIPOLAR, SCHIZOPHRENIC, PSYCHO SHOW ME UP." Echo takes time emphasizing each of her insults, before controlling Nos' arms like a puppet. "Now I will be coming back to finish off these other weaklings. No one makes me lose a score. You, I'll finish you here."

She then makes Nos cast a Drain spell on his hammer, and slam it into his face. The damage down should somehow turn into health for Echo.

(Also, if that counts for his turn, which is what I kinda planned, then Echo summons a large spear of pure shadow energy and rams it through Nos' chest.)

EDIT: If Nos some how kills himself without Echo needing to help, then she casts a Teleportation spell on herself and GTFO's.

I'll conjure up a protective barrier around the airship to ward off the inevitable Corshar attack.

I'll also yell out "Hey! Its time to go! Like, NOW!"

You dont have any control of his magic amd it wont take up his turn (though odds are he wont be able to use his arms for anything else, depending on your roll versus his roll). Anywho i'll assume that you just try to have him hit himself.

((I'm assuming Echo can't also force Nos's mouth shut here, of course. Oh man if Nos was forced to stop talking my posts would become so tiiiny... Oh, and I think you might have forgotten about the debuff Nos put on Echo a couple turns ago? It's not listed in the stats at any rate.))
Nos watches Echo intently as she has her spiel. When she's done, an exceptionally broad grin cracks across his face. "Oh, hahahaheheehee. This is a delightful trick. I don't have to use my arms? Very clever, just as you said you are." But as Echo makes him raise his weapon to strike himself he sighs. "Ah, but I'm so disappointed that you weren't listening to me before. I just want to see your powers flourish, you know. But perhaps a demonstration of what I was talking about before would help you?"

And so he starts to sprint away from Echo and towards the rest of the party, squealing "Oh, my goodness! Help me, someone! She's got my AAAAaaaarrrrms!" If he's managed to say his bit before he hits himself, he'll then throw himself to the ground and try to crush his arms against the ground to prevent him from hitting himself (it's a burst for him, and I don't expect that to not hurt him anyway). Unless somebody helps him in such a way that he would not need to do that, of course.

((No I am no spoilering that, I am just gonna point that out. Because everyone? You should run. NOW.

Somewhat problematic. Also while Bohw should be commanding everyone to run like a bitch, Bohw can't entirely do that because... well, you know.))

Bohw grabs her head once more and starts writhing in a possessed trance, her wrath obviously still not entirely sated. She rapidly looks around like a confused and enraged animal, which in a sense she technically is, then turns her full gaze to the several monsters approaching. But oddly, rather than fear, a small smile finds it's way to her face. Bohw quickly shoots over to Daril's corpse, picks him up and flies up into the safety of the air.

Mayor runs to Nos' side, getting more and more stressed with the running around. He is completely oblivious to Echo's spell on him, but not entirely surprised that he's beating himself up, regardless he lifts him over his shoulder and restrains his flailing arms. He turns around and notices Echo, he can't help but feel pity for her, he waves at her and motions to run to the airship while there's still time, then runs to the Airship himself.

And get Evergreen to heal Mayor. Blah.

Re: Black Zenith [Adventure / RPG / Chapter Two: Ashes and Embers

Its only with Bohw now far out of reach that Thunderpaw notices her blanketed in dark energies. He immediately abandons the fight, jumping onto the airship and looking for one of the mounted launchers.

"Aven'sara, I must request your assistance. A dream showed me something that can be of use here and I'll need your help doing it."

    ---------------------------------------------------

As the ship steers closer, the true sizes of her corruption is apparent; It easily fills the sky! Bohw's anger is almost overwhelming, and it is all you can do to stay focused as she soars higher into the clouds, causing the winds to flow frantically. Thunderpaw struggles to remain standing on the bow as the ship aproaches, and wood creaks as it nears the storm! With great effort, he summon Light to aid him but rather than a hammer, a great sword of dancing lights appears between his hands. It sems familiar, but also very different. Preparing himself, he swings it with thunderous might, throwing it upwards towards his companion above. He launches himself, spinning end over end as he mimics the sword's flight. Finally, the blade strikes into the corrupted Bohw, pointfirst, and a shiver goes through her field of darkness, cracks of light appearing in place of the evil. In a flash of light and darkness, both blade and corruption shatter into splinters of energy, leaving Bohw falling away.

The bunni catches the girl midair, using his slowfall ring to bring both down to ground safely. The team isn't losing another to darkness, not today.

But yeah, I'm a little concerned for Nos at this point. I'd be worried for Bohw too, but she's powered up and it looks like Thunderpaw has a plan to help convince her to egress from here.))

I guess I shouldn't really make vindictive characters, cause it never ends well.

NOS SMASH NOS

(Also, if that counts for his turn, which is what I kinda planned, then Echo summons a large spear of pure shadow energy and rams it through Nos' chest.)

Nos seems to have other plans about what to do with his hands, and, wrestling against his will, weak or not, it is hard to make him clubber himself properly. The best you can manage is having him bonk himself kinds of half-heartedly (half-mindedly?) a few times, dealing only 100 damage before he faceplants (armplants) himself on the ground, trapping his arms beneath him. Still, atleast you kept him from swinging at you, right? (Roll 6 vs 16)

Secondly, you summon a rather unimpressive spearhead and like, stab it into Nos for just 31 damage. Your concentration must've been elsewhere for that spell... (Roll 4+3-2)

    Now what?

You conjure a strong barrier around the airship, protecting against the first 367 damage and keeping hostiles out. Unlike personal barriers, though, this one wont protect against damage over time effects already affecting those it protects (ie corruption)(Roll 18+8)

It is probably worth noting that area barriers such as this one and the one Jane used recently are slightly less effective than a targeted barrier.

You manage to minimize your own ability to hit yourself in da head... Somewhat. You manage to trap your arms and hammer between yourself and the ground, but not before hitting yourself a little. Also putting some distance between yourself and Echo. Fortunately, Bohw appears to have most of the shadow thing's attention, and she is making good work of them. Then Mayor.

Blah.
Mayor manages to scoop up Nos, though damn he is heavy, also trapping his flailing arms atleast relatively. Mayor wasted no time in getting on that stepladder... But stepladders are not exactly made for large iron golems carrying a man demented of Nos' size, nevermind the others who're clinging to the darn thing. The ladder holds for now, but it is protesting loudly and Mayor thinks he sees the rope flaying slowly up at the top! Also he shouts out for Evergreen to heal him i guess.

Rather than waste time dashing around, Bohw casts a spell on Daril's corpse, immediately sending his body flying into her grasp. Perhaps a little disrespectful, but Bohw does not currently give a damn for such things. She immediately weaves her last spell into a new form, namely that of a storm of cinders, blasting through the shadow's and dealing some basic damage. More importantly, though, they act as a form of cover fire, keeping most of the shadow's at bay. Bohw then levitates several yards into the air. Then, all of a sudden, Bohw feels a sudden warmness run through her as something strikes into her back.

    Right you are!

You get on the step ladder.

The searing pain almost makes you let go of it again as it brings you to death's door, though, and only your high strength lets you keep a deathgrip on the round wooden step. The searing pain is all consuming, so immense that you can think of nothing but...

It seems familiar, but also very different.

You've done my description for me today, then!

Regardless, the result is that Hellbent is ended and Thunderpaw catches Bohw and Daril's body. Being all slowfall-y, you are still midair. You might want to make plans for not hitting the ground, too, by the way, because the shadow creatures are carefully gathering below.

    ---

Only three shadows managed to land blows this turn, thanks to the total retreat combined with Bohw's cinderstorm. Course, the attacks were all on Bohw, and she takes a total of 285 damage!

Evergreen heals Mayor, as requested, restoring 275 health to him (Roll 15+7).

Jane casts a levitation spell on herself upon seeing that the step ladder is strained. She floats up onto the deck.

    Stats
I really should see about getting a new signature.

Re: Black Zenith [Adventure / RPG / Chapter Two: Ashes and Embers

Nos mutters madly as he starts to drift a little out of consciousness. Whoda thought his hits hurt so much? And he was pretty sure he was just tapping himself, too! In a bit of a daze, he looks at Mayor carrying him.

"We must egress, good zir might! Wepreeeeesss....." He shakes his head. "Oop, haha, made ya think I was dying, didn't I? It's quite a predicament, not being allowed to use one's hands when one wants too though. I bet she could get my feet too, if she tried." Nos allows himself to be carried, at the moment. But he also attempts to exploit the connection Echo has through the mind control to send her a psychic shock, to disrupt Echo or, if Nos can summon up enough power, reverse the control and allow him to control her for the rest of the spell's duration.

((I'm not entirely sure where Nos came off as weak-willed. He's always 110% into whatever he's doing, just... he changes what he wants to do frequently. Like a little kid that never gets tired. Or is that weak-willed? I dunno, what the GM says goes. Anyway, would Echo's mind control be affected at all by distance?))

I'll spend this turn casting Restoration on Takumi, with an instant healing effect as well as a healing over time effect (medium duration)
