I honestly pictured Jim as having "Don't Stop me Now" by Queen. It just seems fitting, doesn't it? But when I figured out the joke, I literally LOL'd. The whole episode had me lolling harder than any sitcom. But its srs bznz moments were great too, of course.

Hounds was AMAZING, btw. Mark Gatiss can do no wrong. There were several moments where I wished I had a sofa to hide behind. It was more sci-fi/horror than mystery/crime, which is totally not a bad thing. Just unexpected. And fabulously executed at that. 83

I think I preferred A Scandal in Belgravia over The Hounds of Baskerville (although I did enjoy both).

My only qualm with the show is Sherlock's major mistakes, which do not really seem to make sense considering how good he is the rest of the time. Obviously you do not want him to be perfect, but when his mistakes are stupid and the things he misses obvious to, well, a regular person, they just seem contrived.

Now, just five days until we see how The Reichenbach Fall plays out.

I didn't think Sherlock made any stupid mistakes in these last 2 episodes. The only time I can think of him having made one is

when in ASiP, he chased a taxi through London and still didn't realize that the killer was the cabbie.

I think I liked Hounds more, mostly because it was so damn exciting and fast-paced. ASiB was much funnier, though, and was definitely a damn good episode, but the horror/sci-fi aspects of Hounds was just... HNNNNNNNNG

And I wanted to hug Russel/Henry all through the episode. 83

Reichenbach... </3 HE BETTER NOT DIE, DAMMIT. I bet that there will be a cliff (er, waterfall?) hanger at the end of this series, maybe never to be answered by an S3E1. I would sooooooo not put it beyond Moffat to have an eternally ambiguous ending.

As you mentioned, A Study in Pink had his failure to consider the probability that the killer was a taxi driver, even though it fit his profile of who the killer must be. Even though he chased a taxi away from the bait.

The Blind Banker had his failure to demand the name of the book used in the cypher from Soo Lin. Five seconds and he would have had the cypher cracked, and things would have gone much more smoothly. Not a mistake in his logic, but a mistake in his strategy.

The Great Game had his ignoring the information that he got from John (the guard was not an art expert, the guard was an amateur astronomer, a professor contacted the guard telling him he was right). He should have been able to come to the conclusion that the flaw was related to the sky in the painting much sooner than he did. He should have busted out a map of the sky and started checking. Instead he goes to confront a hitman who kills people with his bare hands.

A Scandal in Belgravia had his poor attempts to guess the password. It was fairly clear that there was some sort of mutual attraction between him and Adler. It was surprising that, while he randomly tried various codes that related to him, it was not until the very end that he tried something related to that attraction. I would have tried "love" first, but considering the first thing he jumped to in the end was his name, he should have had it on his first try.

The Hounds of Baskerville, he is utterly baffled trying to figure out how the drug was introduced into their systems. Even after his tests of the sugar came up negative, even after reading that HOUND used aerosol dispersal, even though he was in the hollow and saw it, he does not think of the fog until he rips a gas mask off of Frankland and watches him cover his mouth and nose with his hand. This was pretty minor in terms of the plot, but still a pretty glaring failure.

In ASiB, he only could guess the code 3 times, so each guess had to be really deliberate and thought-out. The first two made sense- he was using the knowledge that Irene had given him so far. Guessing the numbers from the visitor counter as well as his address would make perfect sense. Both related to him/his life ("love" is too general, I think), and he was so limited in his guesses that he had to be careful.

I guess he figured that the fog was natural. I mean, it is a dark, creepy moor. There tends to be fog there. And since everyone was present when he "saw" the hound, maybe he ruled out environmental factors, even though John was not in that same exact immediate area. I think that too is forgivable.

But the numbers made no sense in the context of the sentence: "I am 1895 locked", "I am 221B locked"? That specific interface would not be a standard feature of phones - why would Adler have included something so frivolous? Sherlock should have been thinking of words that would logically complete that sentence.

He could have eliminated environmental factors when he first saw the hound, but he is also supposed to be excessively observant. Later, as the evidence piled up and all other possibilities were eliminated he should have remembered and connected the fog with the drug. Figuring out how he was exposed was fairly important to him - most of what he did in Hounds revolved around it.

But seriously, I was hoping he'd stay dead. Shows like this start with a small fanbase at first willing to take experiments, gain a huge fanbase in the big gap between season 1 and 2, and then goes constantly into decline as the show inevitably dribbles down. I was hoping Moffat would end the show on a high, instead of deliberately trailing it on.

Well in the book series he comes back to life as well (even though it wasn't originally intended) and honestly I'm pretty excited to see what crazy feat Holmes did to trick the world and stymie Moriarty's plans and whether or not he can finally clear his name and beat Moriarty once and for all. I kind of knew it was going to happen and I thought it made for a very exciting cliff hanger. I guess it is extremely difficult to see how after a climax like that the show could ever possibly go anywhere but downhill. so i guiess i can understand why it sucks, but i hate it anywhere near as much as you do. maybe a part of it is also that i wouldnt be able to stand it if holmes just lost like that.

in any case i loved that episode.

HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL. My feelings are just like... lolwut... I DON'T KNOW WHAT MY HEAD IS DOING. And I'm actually sorta-kinda-really okay with that. GASKHGAKHSAG SO GOOD. I love how they showed Sherlock's dynamic with, well, everyone so well. And I admit, I never realized how much I was missing Anderson. And after Sherlock played into Moriarty's big evil plan by "admitting" to being a fraud, I knew he wasn't going to actually die- he wouldn't allow his name to be defamed like that for no reason. At the very least, he'd tell John that he was in fact legit so John would know that his heart was in the right place and stuff. But still, it was all amazing. I'll have to do a rewatch or two because gksdhgakah I'm still processing it allllllllll. And Thompson definitely made up for the weaker writing in TBB. Definitely. I look forward to S3 more than anyone could IMAGINE GADKSHGSAKHAGSKHASGKHASGKAHSD.
Also, I admit I actually was kind of sad when Moriarty died. Not only is he a total BAMF of a villain, Sherlock Moriarty is one of the best pairings 3V4R. He can't just die like that, can he? D8 COME ON JUST BE SO0O0O0O0O0O0O CHANGEABLE AGAIN AND UN-DIE SO YOU CAN SHERLOCK CAN EYE-FLIRT IN THE COURTROOM AND CREATE EPIC ADVENTURES FOR EACH OTHER THAT MAY OR MAY NOT INVOLVE SERIAL MURDERS.

That episode was just so full of emotion. I got choked up quite a bit.

The contemporary Moriarty is a truly brilliant villain. He manipulates everybody with such skill. I regret his death.

I'm just gonna sit here and tear up a bit. That was a fantastic episode and I shall welcome the swarm of Sherlock gif and photosets on my dash on Tumblr.

As for the episode itself...I have Sherlock Holmes collection (books) so I knew he'd probably stay alive (♫ staying alive!~ ♫), so it wasn't an over huge shock, however the entire execution of this episode was fabulous. Grats to all.

But goodness everyone in here should join Martin Freeman and win a BAFTA. (then concurrently say "Fuck you, I won a BAFTA!")

I've been seeing a lot of references to this on tumblr, which obviously means that I should get into it!
The cinematoraphy looks totally winner to me just from the gifs I've viewed.

The cinematography is always perfectly-done.
But the plots are definitely better than 90% of the stuff you see on TV in all the episodes (even the weakest one, I'd say), and the characters are all really well-written (and consistent throughout the whole show!), not to mention that the actors all pull of their roles perfectly. Even if you're unfamiliar with the ACD canon, you'll get a lot out of the series. I don't know a single person who's watched it without being completely dazzled.

Sherlock BCC is really well executed, the shots and angles are well done and the pacing is perfect. Benedict is a god-send, along with the screen writers. but 2x03. jesus, really?

i mean, i think what's getting people raving about it is the fact the plot actually progresses. but the episode was very cliche, trite, arbitrary. Moriarty should have gotten a better death, or that his death was more conclusive. i mean, (i shall presume) i know why he killed himself, but i think no level of acting could've displayed why, exactly. i know the fake death thing is from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who at first meant for Sherlock to STAY dead, but this whole faking death is so over-done and trite. with 2x03, everyone should've upped their game, but minus the actors, it stayed the same. i'm disappointed, but at least 3x01 will be better.

I actually liked the episode and didn't see the reasons/means for Sherlock's role in the ending coming. The setup and reasons behind what was done just don't seem cliché at all. And if they didn't end it that way, then there wouldn't be an S3, and it wouldn't exactly be in the spirit of canon if they had skipped that aspect of the scene altogether. Yeah, the situation may be a bit overdone, but the way it was led up to and executed was so great that it really didn't come across as blah or predictable to me.

Why? Because they are stealing a concept for a remake? Because that doesn't really seem similar to actual stealing. The concept of a modern take on Sherlock Holmes is a good one, and there is more than one way to play it. You should give them the benefit of the doubt, both to produce something of quality and something that stands on it's own without taking ideas from Moffat.

I still haven't seen the last episode, so I'm utterly baffled as to what all the sidewalk chalk scrawlings of "I believe in Sherlock Holmes" all over the university are about. I guess I'll find out as soon as I can track the episode down. Fantastic show, really.
