And let's not have her be magical... But maybe magical things happen to her a lot? Like, she has a bad habit of going to those parts of the city that people pass by without a second thought (like railroad tracks and abandoned warehouses) and encounters magical activity frequently because of it?

I tossed around some ideas for Claire.

A) She's a synestheste
B) She's a lucid dreamer
C) She found a genie and made 3 ridiculously weird wishes. Namely, she wished she could beat anyone or anything in the universe at rock paper scissors, that nobody can say the word "moist" in her presence, and that she could telepathically communicate with ducks, but only on odd numbered days.

She is supposed to be powerless. I just thought it might be a cool idea for her to have 3 almost completely useless powers granted by a genie that pretty much never find a reason to be important.
